and replace some old woman as just an example.

Excuse me?

Can you imagine some guy on a sinking ship saying, I can cure cancer, let the old battle axe die?

Precisely, or will at least stand behind the women in his life when they stand up for themselves, instead of only expecting them to want to stand behind him.

And as a female worker in the UK, I am deeply indebted to the Dagenham girls for the all the hard work and sacrifices they made so that I wouldn't have to.

As always ATS very interesting and entertaining read....

From what I'm gathering the perspective on "women and Children" first depends a lot on Age, Gender, upbringing, education, personal experience and modern societal influences of all sexes. In a true SHTF scenario...

1. As a parent there would be no doubt that I would fight and die for my children's survival, No questions asked!

2. As a spouse/partner [Being divorced now] I still would throttle anyone who gets in her way of survival.

That's just me.

I was also raised in the old fashion way of saying things like. [Please, Thank you and May I] also holding doors open for ladies and Escorting a lady to and fro. None of that controlling or dominating a female crap.

I've always been attracted to intelligent, strong willed females. I think that's probably [For me] some sort of genetic self defense mechanism for the survival of my and my forefathers genes. A strong female would provide better protection and support for our children alone if I were to perish IMO.

Getting older. I've lived my life and have experienced a vast variety of things both good and bad and done things that I'm still trying to come to grips with. Children whether being mine or not would go first if I were involved in a life or death situation. Then females. But when it comes to the elderly or the infirmed. I'd think twice. The elderly have already lived life. The infirmed were possibly never meant to survive in the REAL real world. Only through modern medicine and technology are they allowed to survive.

I know that last bit sounds harsh but if this was truly a TSHTF Survival situation they get the boot in my mind.

I don't disagree that children should be first,

I think a lot of it boils down to control over the situation, there really isn't time to have a discussion about who is going to be put in the life boat, so having a rule like this, and I am sure it was well thought out, gives order to the situation.

Very good and insightful reply...........very insightful.

Now, when a wolf or any predator animal hunts the first thing they do is to separate the bulls from the cows because a bull will die protecting his cow.

TPTB have done exacly what you have said, they have separated emotionally the cows from the bulls........think "United we stand, divided we fall".

And that is just what has happened, our family unit, the basic foundation of humanity has been divided up.

The 50m question you all ought to be asking is who is really at the very top of the pyramid?

Hint: Watch "They Live"............and read David Icke.

Crazy as it sounds, no I don't believe the very top unseen powers that be that are truly currently running our planet are totally "homosapien".

Instead of trolling on me, just start researching, and I mean really research.

Hard to believe but this is the mother of all conspiracies.............disunification of the family and man and woman.

Love is the answer, everything else is an illusion. - David Icke.

I love the movie Tremors with Kevin Bacon, the original one with the two older survivalists couple in the basement, she and he are loading their guns and fighting the worm creature coming through the wall. She never leaves his side, right there loading and reloading they are a united team.

I would like to think I would have the guts to stand by my husband's side if TSHTF and fight along side of him to ensure he as well as I either survived or died together.

Go after my husband with the intent to kill and you better make sure you don't turn your back on me because I'll come at you with whatever I have and clobber you so hard and keep clobbering you to make sure you couldn't hurt my sweetie pie...............I'm a nice sweet little old lady but threaten my husband, children or grandchild and you best not turn your back on me............I may be little but I'm a tough mean old bird when push comes to shove and once my adrenaline kicks in, I'm a fornable enemy.

ps: I've also taken gun shooting lessons and am now pretty good - I pray I never have to live through such times, but I'm ready.

Come to me in peace and I would gladly share my food and safe haven with you.

Come at me as a enemy and try to hurt my loved ones and you best get me first because not all little old ladies are as helpless as they look.

lol...well, the concept for that was with time...aka, we are going to die in a year, so lets make a list...
sinking ship, anyone can lie, therefore unless its someone well known..then the women and children first rule is in effect.

But ya, a years worth of planning would mean planning out who stays and who goes...a 60 year old successful inventor is worth more to the survival of the species than a 25 year old woman with her tubes tied for instance.

Also worth saving: any talented doctor/surgeon (regardless of age/sex), Botanists (gonna need the plant people), etc.

Again, this only kicks in during a extinction level event where you must consider survival of the species verses manners

Buttering up the guys into sacrificing themselves for your sake. Not nice, but smart I suppose.

Are you at least consistent and provide them with the dutiful obedience, free access to your body, home cooked meals on demand and quiet unquestioning support they USED to receive as payment for their willingness to sacrifice?

I'm glad I didn't marry you..................my husband, even at your tender age would be a hero and make sure someone else's kid survived. He's made of a different cloth called heroic vs you a coward and service to self at everyone else's expense.

You've allowed the reptilian part of your brain to dominate. Sad.

Women and children first? I would'nt follow such a rule, I would prefer to go by age (given the time, which on a sinking boat isn't likely
)

If I was a 50 year old man, why should I be given priority over an 18 year old with his whole life ahead of him? Whatever sex, the youngest first...

Although personally, I would probably help as many people get to safety before me as possible because I couldn't live with the guilt of leaving people to die. But thats just me.

Gaining the vote did not gain working women any rights of employment, just of citizenship, all of the rights, and privileges that as a female worker are afforded to me in equality of my male counterparts, have been earnt from the sacrifices of other women. Nothing was given, everything had to be demanded and fought for. Just as the peasants had fought to be free, without first having to be slaves and working for manumission. We should never forget that we, all of us, stand on the shoulders of giants.

Brave women, glad you enjoyed the film.

Insightful post.

I also read an article about the amount of estrogen from the zillions of women that use birth control, pee and that estrogen goes back into our water supply and isn't totally filtered out

www.scientificamerican.com...

www.facebook.com...

This in and of itself is another mother of a conspiracy.

My husband's younger brother is a geologist and ten years ago warned us about drinking non filtered water.

Whats more, I don't think this is all by chance or accident..............there is an agenda.

a hilarious Michael Scott quote i thought of when i saw this thread!! For those of you who dont watch rubbish like that its the character Steve Carrol plays on The Office

Yes, I've heard 'women and children first', but we do not employ children. We are not a sweatshop, thankfully. And women are equal in the workplace, by law, so if I let them out first... I have a lawsuit on my hands.

OH I just wanted to say, that although yes, today men can raise and FEED an infant,
Back in the day, breast milk, or a wet nurse were needed, and it hasn't been that long ago, when you think about it.

So if they didn't save a nursing mother the babies would die.

But then invading armies back in the day would rape and pillage killing the women and children,

weird world, all about survival of the tribe.

Really? Isn't requiring men to be "heroic" a little stereotypical and putting men into gender roles? That's about as outdated as me telling you to get in the kitchen.

Any human, male or female can show themselves either heroic or cowardly in the face of adversity.

I suggest you read Unity99's posts...............very insightful and full of wisdom.

My hope is if I am around and something major happens I am able to stand by my beliefs and show courage under fire.

I have faced a 45 in my face before and chose to turn my back and walk away expecting my head to explode any minute, that was a very hallowing experience.

Also, fyi: These bodies we lug around are simply (by ET definitions) "containers" our real inness is our souls and they have no gender.

I'm an old woman and would gladly surrender my seat to a young man or woman and stay by my husband's side.

Have lived a long full interesting life and do not fear death...........dying yes, don't like pain
but when I take my leave of this lifetime I pray I go out with honor and bravery.

Ditto on your reply.

Good with several types of guns and a 12 gauge action pump action shot gun.

Haven't tried using a knife.

Started and then quite self defense but know the basics.

My best quality is I am strong and even though I'm approaching 60 I am quick, can still catch a fly in mid air.
