the problem with this is, is they still have hands and a tongue, get rid of them and them i am for it, other wise, life in prison or death no if's and 's or but's, no pun intended.

I am going to admit it straight up, I am biased and my judgement clouded when it comes to a subject like this due to personal experience (NO I was not abused in my past). If it works to stop pedophiles re-offending I am all for it. There are many cases that we hear of about persons like these re-offending. I don't know whether morals come into when it is a question about protecting children from abuse. Would this be a cheaper option (if effective) than incarceration for repeated offences for the taxpayer? Would this preserve the innocents stop the suffering of future victims? If the answer is yes I would have no problem. Human rights of the pedophiles don't come into play when an individual removes the rights of others through their actions and repeats these acts. Sorry people for the rant.

Usually, I am on the same side of an issue as you are - but I have an empathetic ability to take up arguing a different opinion.

pedos are sick sick sick and if we cant shoot em outright then make them pay another way.

I would contend it's simply an issue of confusing, or being unable to separate, paternal instincts from intimate instincts.

Of course, to follow me, you can't presume I'm talking about the 50 year old running around and fondling five year old girls and boys. That's generally considered creepy and likely indications of a psychological disorder.

Nor am I talking about the variety that assault and/or manipulate sex out of minors. Doing so, anyway, is a crime - regardless of how old the victim is.

Let's say you've got a 20 year old college student living next to a family with a 13 year old daughter for the past several years, and the two have developed a sort of friend/sibling/parental relationship. Perhaps it's "odd" for an older guy to give a younger girl the time of day. In either case - the two are in regular contact and already have a rather exclusive relationship.

Would it be 'sick' and 'demented' for the older guy to develop a sense of intimacy towards someone he has grown to care about and support in times of need?

Sure - it may be a bad idea to act on those feelings, or to put one's self in a tempting situation - but it doesn't change the feelings.

Of course - there's a substantial difference between that and the guys who get aroused watching kids on the playground.

In either case - I'm just kind of curious as to what kind of "pedophile" we're persecuting, here. The kind who is a pedophile by pathology or one who is a pedophile by circumstance?

Some states have used that procedure before in the past. If I remember right I dont think the States can force this as an option due to supreme court rulings. However, voluntary chemical castration I belive is still allowable.

As far as some of the other comments, I agree.. I dont think it is an effective treatment at all. Also, the way some laws work, even here in the states, its possible to have consensual sex say between a 17 year old male and 16 year old female. Since the female is still under parental control though, the parents can bring charges against the male, resulting in sex offender classification.

The laws need to be more defined in this area, and more study needs to be done in the area of psychotherapy, medical and other programs to determine a possible cause. Then it might be possible to forumlate an effective plan.

Hang them high I say, I don't agree with castration, they could still offend again in a different way. Once a person commits child abuse of this nature that person should lose ALL human rights.

If we can't hang them then I would favour experimenting on them in order to further medical science. I don't care who thinks I'm primitive for thinking this way.

I don't think it is a good idea. What if somebody was wrongly accused? It's more common than you'd think. All it would take is an angry sixteen year old with decent acting skills. As for reforming them, I assume if they can't stop themselves from raping that they will always be messed up in the head. They should definitely have some mark or something though. we need to colonize the moon and turn it into a correctional facility.

I agrre with castrating the pediphilles, in whichever means the society deems fit. Pedophilles are extremely mentally sick, will repeat their dirty deeds, take them off, end the problem...

There should be an island just for the sickos. put them all on it and let them moleste each other.

Is this the 16th century or 21st century? Such draconian forms of punishment are no replacement for common sense.

I 100% agree that chemical castration should be mandatory for sexual predators. No guy wants to lose his genitals, no matter how messed up in the head you are. Although the genitals only play a small part in a paedophiles actions, maybe castrate their hands as well? Now we're talking.

Paedophiles should be executed ideally though.

Well, we are a very primitive culture.

Our entire incarceration system worldwide is nothing more than a murder factory designed to satisfy some petty revenge impulse.

From things like 3-strikes to mandatory sentencing to prohibition to capitol punishment our system does no good for anyone.

But, as the vengeance crazed blood thirsty posters will remind us, it's the best we got.

Shame so few would bother to question that.

There is no such thing as a "true" non offending pedophile.

Pedophiles groom young and very young children with sweets and treets befriending

their families into trusting them as some sort of genial, generous "uncle" so as to get

access to abuse them through time. And if a pedophile has not yet actually and physically

acted out on his impulses he will have in all probability viewed videos/films of actual abuse

being carried out and there is a victim at the end of every one of those video/films so that

would make him GUILTY by PROXY.

Pedophiles are MONSTERS but are very hard to recognise because they look just like your

father, son, brother, uncle, grandfather nephew, that 'nice man next door, even the priest.

In my opinion there is only one real way to chemically castrate a person and its a completely natural method: Calorie Restriction. The downside is that it creates other problems like depression, physical fatigue, weakness, psychological deprivation, etc. But you could make the argument that dealing with these negative side effects are worth it if it cures this major problem.

Finally a truly empathetic human being answered!

People do not even take time to think what the situation had been and is for the pedophile. They were not born this way, they did not learn it from an adult, they were innocent children who were molested themselves. They are the children we are protecting grown up.

We need to do something besides what has been presented here and in the mainstream. Maybe an Island....some form of isolation? Something has to be done to stop the cycle and protect the victims both adult and child.

We punish people on speculation all the time. And we feel noble and righteous for doing it.

Just last week there was a guy who had his life made a living hell by the media. He was accused of molestation by an 8 year old student he was tutoring.

The accusation made headline news for weeks. He was booted out of college and demonized. Treated as if guilty without question.

Last week a grand jury concluded there was no evidence of the crime (though various folks in the system still wanted to charge and prosecute for anything they could) and the charges dropped and the guy set free.

The media gave that a blurb in papers and televised news. As if that made up for the damage that had been done.

His school offered to take him back and help him get re-assimilated. As ifthats even possible at this poor in his life.

And for this guy the system apparently worked. Imagine what it's like for those who are wrongfully accused and convicted.

The price for petty vengeance is too high.
