Was looking at the big red moon whilst standing in my kitchen in the dark with a hot brew at 4:45AM today.

If I'd had a bit of time I'd have set up the scope and rattled off a few frames.

My prayers are with you, your daughter and your family...
as well as all those who are in the crosshairs of these wildfires.

With what they were saying on the news here in DFW last night- it seems like these conditions are only going to persist for the foreseeable future

Blood Moon. According to folklore, October's full moon is called the "Blood Moon" or sometimes the "Hunter's Moon." It gets its name from hunters who tracked and killed their prey by autumn moonlight, stockpiling food for the winter ahead.

So technically what you saw was not a blood moon at all. Nor was it a super moon. No doubt the moon was low in the sky and being discoloured by particulates in the atmosphere.

Cheers

I am in Florida on the east coast and the moon was so big and bright white. My bf even mentioned how bright the sky was at such a late time of night. It was around 9pm. We were outside and it was beautiful esp how it lit up the sky. It was still just as pretty when I left to pick a friend up for work at 6am. It was just as bright and big too.

My children and I noticed the orange moon last night in East Texas. The area is going through a severe drought, so there's quite a bit of dust in the air. The dust coupled with the smoke particles from the brush fires further north have probably intensified this effect.

Needless to say, it was a beautiful sight.

Last night (near London UK), the moon was so big and bright and looked so close, you could almost imagine that you could reach out and touch it.

I'm not really clued up on moon cycles, but it looked bigger and closer then the March 19th supermoon.

That's what I figured...yay for fellow NorthEast-Texans

Were you living in this area a few years ago when we had that crazy dust storm?
Been trying to find videos of it...

( not religious so don't give me any crap )

The sixth seal: " And I beheld when He had opened the 'SIXTH SEAL,' and, lo, there was an earthquake: and the sun became black as sackcloth of hair, and the moon became as blood: and the stars of heaven fell unto the earth, even as a fig tree casteth her untimely figs, when she is shaken of a mighty wind. And the heaven departed as a scroll when it is rolled together; and every mountain and island were moved out of their places. "

Mega-earthquake predicted for the 22nd...from 3/11 to 22/4 it's 42 days = 7

sixth seal was the japan eq. and now comes the seventh seal I guess, or maybe we're still in the sixth seal...who you gonna call?...

I can't recall a dust storm in my neck of the woods, but I do remember there were a number of brush fires in Mexico several years ago and the wind pushed the smoke into East Texas. The sun was blocked by a smoky haze for a couple of weeks solid. Never want to experience that again.

I saw this here in the DFW area. I figured that it is due to all of the wildfires here in Texas. Very cool!

I can't watch your video
_
my dial up is too slow
but I can see the first frame of it...
NICE!!!

but...

I saw a "super moon" last night
right here in South East Kentucky...

One of the biggest moons I have seen...
but not the biggest I have seen...
biggest was in Lexington, Kentucky 2005?
It was pure white and massive massive...
compare a normal moon to a quarter in the sky
compare the biggest i have ever seen to a 15 feet diameter dinner plate!!!

It wasnt a blood moon here... but it was orange, though

Would have been even more awesome here with it being orange and big, had it been October 31st...
which it reminded me of halloween, when I saw it.... I LOVE Halloween

I was on my way back home... tried snapping a picture on my iphone...
but you can't really tell what i took a picture of, lol
the super moon in march... I have a picture of it... haha

but It was beautiful my friend, and I can only imagine what it looked like in Texas!

but...
The coolest moon I have ever saw was last year
August 13th 2010... which was a friday the 13th... which was my wedding day...
The wife and I were leaving the "venue" to head to our Honey Moon location
and super low in the horizon was a big very very red moon...
add that in with the meteor showers
our wedding night was out of the world!!

So awesome you have a super big blood moon celebrating your birthday

and i had one celebrating my wedding(8-13-10)

Hope your birthday was awesome!!

Whoa ... I thought it was just me! I live just North of Dallas and it was red alright. And it was bigger than usual too (and yes I have done the research as to why its bigger so don't lynch me)

Actually, its been like that for a couple of days now. Starting the 14th of April.

Perhaps it's red because of all the pollution the wildfires are causing? Still though its a pretty strange sight to see.
