FAKE Comet Elenin picture! Help deny ignorance

OK, this has been bugging me since I found it out the other day and basically I'm sick of bringing it up so I thought I'd make a thread about it for future reference.
Not only that I think it is our duty as members of ATS to 'Deny Ignorance' wherever possible, especially when dealing with fraudulant information.

The following picture is NOT a picture of Comet Elenin!



So with Comet Elenin being the big thing on ATS at the moment with many threads concerning it in one way or another I have noticed that these threads are constantly having links provided in them that contains the above picture, a supposed picture of Elenin(it's not). Yet after doing a little browsing of google images I have found the original source of this photo to be infact Comet 81P/Wild.

The original photo can be seen below and was taken by Steve E. Farmer Jr of the Tzec Maun Observatory and he should be credited for that and it should be stated that it is a photo of Comet Wild.

Now it is plain as day that when you compare the two pictures they are one and the same only that one of them has been changed in photoshop to add a bit of colour and the word 'Comet Elenin'. I haven't been able to reasonably trace back the source to the person responsible for this deception but it could easily of all sprouted from the article below written by the same Steve Farmer who took the photograph.

Back on christmas day last year he wrote the article about the then recently discovered Comet Elenin and added the picture of Comet Wild as a reference picture. It was clearly printed on the blog that it was Comet Wild and not Elenin.
So it would seem that somebody had come across that page in their desperate search for a picture of Elenin and decided to lift the picture and rename the comet it shows. It could likely be an honest mistake but given the trouble that has been gone too modify the picture I doubt it was anybody else but a charlatan.

Here is what bothers me most about this, (I will give some links further down to just a handful of websites, mainly blogs that are hosting this picture as a picture of Elenin) it's the fact that it is being used so widely from people trying to give us genuine scientific information to those talking about pole shifts and brown dwarfs. It seems like one colossal copy and paste job that needs to stop.

And this is where ATS and you the members can come in, we can set the record straight and live up to the tagline of 'Deny Ignorance' that is this websites motto.
If you come across a link that has this photo on it post the link here and if there is a comments section post a comment with the real photo linked that shows it is infact Comet Wild.

By doing this hopefully we can educate those who are posting this false picture. I am sure that not all of these sites are delberately being underhanded but they just don't know any better and don't double check their sources.

I knew it was fake only because of the size of the comet. No one can get pictures of it being that big....Yet. Thank you for sharing.

Thanks...For us, the ones that are truly concerned over Elenin we do our research and we can tell, most of the time, what is true and something a troll may have posted trying to make use look bad....I'm just glad we only have a few more months to see what the real truth is....One way or another, it will be put to rest.....I just hope were still around to enjoy the truth....

Nice one. You will probabaly get lots of stars and flags over something that is fake. Something that would probabaly not be brought to our attention unless for you.

Why involve yourself in something that is obviously fake, yet claim that you are bored of it all? Why bring something fake to ATS, if you are fed up with the whole Elenin saga?

Well, that's the thing with this. No matter what it is a person believes will come from this comet or what point they are trying to get across, posting a falsified picture of the comet is in no way going to help that argument. And like I said people from all viewpoints are using this picture with some believing it to be real.

This is maybe one indisputable fact that all sides can come to agreement upon.

Again, I am not bringing something fake here, it is already here in the myriad of Elenin threads that already exist. It is being linked to and used as subject matter here.
If anything I am using this thread as a tool for others to hopefully stop bringing it here and possibly aid in the removal of said fake picture from sites that are using it.

You are blatantly bringing something that is fake to a forum in the attempt to ridicule the entire Elenin topic. As I said previously, why would you bring something that is totally fake to the forum? Honestly, this is basic comprehension here. If you can't see why it would be better to have one centralised thread to link back to then to constantly say the same thing over and over in every thread where an OP or poster brings us this picture then that's your issue.
One thread I pointed this same thing out 3 times in a short time frame, and since then I could of pointed it out more than once as well. So instead of spamming the board with the same thing(which is against T&C I believe) I made this thread.

Clearly others had noticed the same thing as the first two posters in this thread hinted at. I'd imagine more people too but I can't speak for them. Surely somebody would have picked up on it at some point, but at least now you know, you saw it first here.

The OP posted a picture that is being misrepresented as Elenin, whether on ATS or anywhere else he is posting it for future reference and stating that it is fake and shown the original.

If he were to have said it was real, it would be a different story.

I'm not sure what you are trying to 'deny'.

Dear Lord he is not doing anything of the sort!!!! Would you rather be IGNORANT your entire life and never know the real news from the hoax ones?!?! That is all he is doing here.....exposing a hoax. I didn't fully understand your first two posts, but I figured I'd just let it slide. However, I'm now entirely confused. The OP is simply showing us that a picture being passed around as comet Elenin is, in fact, not comet Elenin. Why do you keep suggesting that it would be better had he not posted this information? That is what I cannot wrap my head around. You're complaining about him bringing new information to light, as if that isn't the entire point of this forum. Further, you go on to suggest it would be okay if "someone else" had posted it? Do you have some sort of problem with the OP?

I thank you, OP, for informing us that this picture is a fraud. I actually had no idea. Please don't let this person get to you. He's obviously not trying to deny ignorance, as he claims. If he doesn't want us bringing new factual information to the table, he will be the one losing the battle with ignorance.

I agree with you Pazcat... but your missing something.

The reason this is important ... it is beacause using the False picture makes you assume it is a comet...

The original images, if they are original, do not. Why ? Because you can't see a tail....

Using a image from a comet with a big tail (wild) makes everyone assume it is a Comet.... and you're falling into the same mistake.

Maybe it is.... maybe it isn't. And if you want to do it the right way... you should, also, Stop Calling it a Comet.

Call it "The Thing" .... but not Comet ....till we know it is one.

When doing something do it all the way. Not just half...

Good for you, glad to see some evidence to back up your claim that we can cross reference. Highly amusing how some people are slating you for highlighting fakery! Presumably the old cognitive dissonance is kicking in and they don't like the idea that they have fallen for pure hokum.

As I metioned it's showing up more and more on ATS, at one point I clicked on 5 links in a row all containing this picture.

Who knows what their motives are, this link is the earliest usage I could find of the picture. Maybe it was this guy that started it off. Notice the donate link on his wordpress website too.

To be fair I do think a lot of the other links are just a copy/paste job believing it to be an actual photo.
But I am sure the original culprit was well are of what he was doing, you don't go to that much trouble to manipulate a photo otherwise.

Even in this show. The experts can not find Elelin but they did find a massive Brown Dwarf Star about to enter into our area and he proves how it is a normal part of our Solar system on a 3600 year orbit. The orbit is from bottom to top rather than all side by side like the other planets.

He also gives props to all the people on Youtube for doing great research and warning the public.

Every 3600 years from Dec 2012 earth has suffered almost extinction level events.

I have also heard that the elite in the know are bugging out to their shelters to ride it out.
