Just curious about everyone elses favorites.

For me is Close Encounters of the 3rd King and Independance Day.

F&S: everybody should have a piece of this thread, and thanks!

Being another old guy, there was maybe the black and white
granddaddy of them all... "The Day the Earth Stood Still", 1951.
The original one, rent it if you can find it.
Close to my heart, a fantasy [of maybe some kind] of warning
message that would make TPTB back off on the violence-- or
get melted like the processed cheese in a grilled wierdo. It
was completely cool what Gort could do to a tank.
Michael Rennie as Klaatu, Patricia Neal, Sam Jaffee as the
Professor, Hugh Marlowe as the boyfriend, me as the scared
stiff kid glued to NBC 'Monday Night at the Movies'. I had
nightmares of getting disinto'd for a whole week after that one.
Music by Bernard Herrman; as Orson W. said, "...A true genius."
Keanu, man, you're really good-- but you should let this one go.
And if TSHTF, and you catch a .45 ACP in the shoulder, the
visitor had this tube of Super Neo-Spooin' that closed her right UP.

Oh yeah, lately 'Taken'. It's a long series, but Spielberg did such a
good job with character development and plot I went and bought
the box.
Super scene: "Sure you don't want a cookie?" Inside joke for
those who saw and remember Joel Gretsch's line to Heather
Donohue slobbering on the floor crying. LMFAO. It's a surprise,
rent that one too if you can ever find it... a wonderful story.

2001 A space odyssey (1957)

and the sequel:

2010 The year we make contact (1984)

Superb cinematography and a poignant message of what may happen if intelligent computers "go rogue."

I love both of those and Independence Day and the War of the Worlds re-make with Tom Cruise is pretty good too.

Signs and the War of the Worlds could have been better, especially without Mel Gibson an Tom Cruise.

For me it would be the original Alien (1979). I liked the sequel too Aliens
Signs was a good one too with Mel Gibson

I know it's not a movie but I'm really enjoying the new V - can't compare it to the old one because it was a bit before my time lol

For me it's Close Encounters. That's a movie from my generation.

It's one of the few movies I've watched twice (along with Dr. Strangelove).

Independance day.

Only because Will Smith was in it

So many..
I want to point out Dark Star (1974). It's a parody to 2001 but you can take it as a serious movie. The ending is one of the best.
Fire in the sky is the ultimate abduction movie.

I have to say the same, i still think Close Encounters of the Third Kind and Independence Day are most worthy of being called a UFO/Alien movie, both my fav's. I hoped that Skyline or Battle L.A would give me 2 more to add to the list, to bad they both where so terrible that i don't even want to remember them, but then again there is one more movie i can add so i can make a top 3:
1: Close Encounters of the Third Kind
2: Independence Day
3: District 9

The Fourth Kind was awesome, I thought is was really interesting that the commentary showed how the whole abduction had psycologically messed with her......of course it was understandble, her losing her child and all.

I loved Invasion of the Body Snatchers, the one with Donald Sutherland and Jeff Goldblum and Leonard Nimoy. There have been several over the years, but that one is my favorite I think it was from the early 1980's. I also liked the version a few years ago with Nicole Kidman.

Please forgive my following rant but I do have to say, after just watching most of

BATTLE: LOS ANGELES

Is one of the WORST alien movies I have ever seen. I know there is so little to go on from the original battle photos but when it comes to ufo stories, that one still stands up on its own as something of great interest to me. When I first heard this movie was being made I had the false hope that it would be related. The fact that it was not is not what bothered me though, it just really really seemed to suck.
