Report: Slaves Now a ‘Disposable Commodity’ at ‘Historic Low’ of $90 Each

At $90 per, it's cheaper to let sick slaves die and just buy a new one when they break. CNN broadcast this video on March 7, 2011.

Anywhere between 10-30 million people are in slavery, according to a recent report by CNN. One expert even told the network that the price of an individual slave has actually fallen to a historic low, to just $90 a person in some regions.

Besides prostitution, slaves are used in manufacturing, farming, food processing and healthcare.

It's about time! I've always wanted someone to clean my rooms/car but could never afford it. Now that the Economy is in such a poor condition I can finally make my move.

Truly sad.. That in this "modern" age people still enslave their fellow humans... Rather than treating them with respect, dignity and equality as human beings.. Also quite disgusting that some find it funny... There is nothing funny about it.. Western society has become soulless.. S&F

If I could get someone to do to the everyday menial BS, I would have more time to do the important things that actually do matter.

Nothing wrong with efficiency.

This is such an important and compelling issue. To see light made of it sincerely troubles me.

Human bondage and slavery are such troubling issues and we, of western bent, have a very difficult time understanding this. Many of the above comments illustrate this point. We tend to equate "slavery" with "wage slavery" - or maybe a western prison - as that is as close to the problem as our society allows.

But the truth of what slavery means in certain other nations is enough to shock a person.

There are cultures where it is not uncommon for parents to sell their pre adolescent daughters into literal and outright slavery - this means that they literally sell their children like one might a used car - for a pittance, simply because it is the only way to feed the remaining members of the family. Western minds cannot really wrap themselves around things like this.

Once sold, those daughters are property. They can be worked to death, prostituted, beaten, killed...anything. They often end up in the sex slave trade, often addicted to drugs which have been used to quell them. Often diseased and dying.

There are a few good documentaries about this floating around on the web, and some very graphic news stories if one searches them out. I advise doing this.

If we all learn the reality - there will be a lot less jokes about it. It's a very real and sincere tragedy.

Well heff here is were I agree with you and disagree... I don't mean to make light but I wouldn't mind having a slave it would be the best thing ever for the both.. I mean hell I don't do much any ways I'd pay 90 bucks for one and that dude would get fed have a place to stay do a bit o work.. As in watch tv, hang out play video games. and do what ever the hell he or she wants. If he wanted to leave.. he would just have to work off the 90 bucks and current min wage here in cali. gotta get my moneys worth..

No, that's correct. It's American math like the government uses, the poster just didn't mention it.

You are correct though, when properly converted to regular math it would be 2.7 billion.

BTW, put me down for a couple too. I don't want to feed 10 though.

While yes you do have a very valid point on the international
slave trade, yet I see you have Charlie Sheen in your avatar
who is one of the biggest supporters of the Porn industry.
And porn is considered by many to also be a legalized

If it makes you feel better, I dont carry any weight on my shoulders from knowing others are slaves. If I could get away with it, I would own slaves.

It would enable me to utilize my time more efficiently.
