It's the only move he has left
Perhaps, there's great concern that he may yet retain some kind of access to chemical or biological WMD, and/or perhaps a few scud missiles? Given
his history (e.g. 2009 nuclear weapons radiological crisis where he abandoned highly radiological material in inappropriate packaging on a desert
runway) and credentials, I wouldn't totally rule out misuse (dirty-bomb/scorched earth type antics) with some radiological material either.
It appears unclear how much air-power he has access/control of...but if he lashes out things could yet get far nastier than simply oil-pipe
disruption, and even the unthinkable brutality already unleashed on his people.
I heard that currently there is at least one rescue ship/ferry sitting in port or close to shore loaded with refugees but unable to move due to poor
weather - talk about a sitting duck? Are his warships still firing into shore? Any news on whose side they are on now?
I fear that pressure from other countries, and his fury with the situation in the East and possibly even a no-fly-zone or something could force him
into such dramatic gestures.
