NSA Chief: Destructive cyber attack inevitable

www.activistpost.com

The US National Security Agency (NSA) chief on Thursday urged top computer security specialists to harden the nation's critical infrastructure against inevitable destructive cyber attacks.

"This is an important time," NSA and Cyber Command director Gen. Keith Alexander said during a presentation at a premier RSA Conference in San Francisco.

"Most of the destructive tools being developed haven't been used; we need to use this window of opportunity to develop defenses."

Note- I performed a search per the rules of ATS and did not find any other thread on this topic before posting.

I think they already know when it'll occur right now they are just covering all of the bases for when it does happen. Under the guise of "we told you so" is what I see this as. Obviously they know that some type of weapons for this purpose are being developed/built by his own admission so in my opinion, this is either a sideways admission of fore knowledge or outright knowledge in an attempt to cover all the bases of deniability.
I also worry that an attack will happen in order to help promote the control features of the net that the government wants to impose. I believe this attack will originate from inside rather than outside however, "they" may for sure say it came for an external source like China or Syria.

Of course they know. They'll be the ones to do it.

All I see from the NSA here is fearmongering. They aren't saying anything that the industry is not already aware of. They are just putting it into terms they can use to scare the populace.

Maybe the stuxnet worm is going to come back and bite us in the ass...in a bigger way...I mean seriously...you release a cyberweapon on the internet..and you didn't think it was gonna come back and hurt us?

Those guys at nsa and all the other fearmongers in dizzy city really should take a holiday - go to the beach, have a few drinks, pick up some girls and get laid.. Or a trip to the asylum for a very long time..
Rather than continuosly dreaming up new imaginary threats to scare the public with while they further dismantle the constitution and profit with their bloodmoney ...

Ok ok...We had the FBI warning about the inevitable WMD attack, and now the NSA warning about an inevitable massive cyber attack. Ok yeah! Now I know for sure a false flag operation is about to happen any day now...

These little piece of (insert word ATS doesn't want me to say)!

I believe we are at a turning point in society because the fed obviously has gotten the messege the citizens (and the world) is fed up with many actions of the US during the last decade. the fed is now fear mongering out some "scenarios" and warnings to mentally prepare the sheeps for what they plan next when it happens. I seriously view all of the DHS, NSA, FBI and other agency's warnings as a glimpse into their plans for the future. If we see this trend of warnings where they are issued and/or divulged in the press under the guise of "concern" on their behalf, then the population must begin some form of proceadure to get these people out of office and out of the positions where they can institute these types of operations for narferious purposes. This type of leadership is not needed in the United States as we, the citizens, are not being represented within our genuine nature and spirit.

We do not need any type nor kind of internet policing from any aspect of the government except that to ensure the internet is protected under the context of being open and free for anyone to use when they see fit. the President does not "need" any kill switch or anythhing remotely of the type for any reason despite the continued rhetoric from those who support this current clique of political criminals for their own agenda(s) and gain.

I think ya nailed it. I doubt they know when, but they probably have rough estimates on how long it'll take for the viable portions to be implemented into new worms/viruses. They screwed up big time releasing that bugger into the wild. :shk:

If they are saying it's inevitable, that's pretty much saying they will be the one doing it as far as i'm concerned.

it's just so insane.. even a layperson should know that some hacker group cannot possibly disrupt the internet so much that we'd need fed intervention:facepalm:

It's likely not the internet itself that has them concerned, but our crumbling energy grid. From the article, "harden the nation's critical infrastructure", keyword being "infrastructure". So yes, topple the grid, and the net goes without power.

I truly think the gov is scared of the amount of information that can be posted without their control and/or consent. Thats why they want to control it. Its kinda tough to keep secrets when there is an avenue that those secrets may end up posted on.
