I am writing this real quick because I am upset and need a smoke.

I was constructing a thread for the Gray Area forum. I spent about an hour typing my story on what happened to me. I will not say what it is because I will make another thread tomorrow. I spent alot of time typing and trying to be informative as I could be on my experience. A long friggin time to be typring with the kids screaming and carrying on....lol

Has this ever happened to you. I usually do not make this big of a mistake.

But damnit man, what a waste of my time.

Feel free to comment.

Some would feel that reading this is a waste of their time....lol.....

Time to smoke..

I too have shared your pain.

The next time I wrote it though, it was better!

I learned to write long posts in a word processor first, then copy/paste it.

Did I forget to mention that I learned the hard way?

Word Processors are your best friend when it comes to this. I remember making a very long thread a while back and to be honest it was getting painful putting it together and as I neared the end I somehow refreshed the page and lost it all. I contemplated smashing my laptop but decided that wouldn't be a good idea

Yes, I have learned this the hard way as well.

If you are going to make a big thread, definitely use your word processor and save frequently!

Also this works out great if you need to use 2-3 posts to cram all your information into.
That way you can copy paste all 3 posts really quickly back to back, and avoid having people post a lot in between forcing your additional posts down the page or onto page 2.

Part of life I guess, make mistakes and learn from them. You might not have the same problem again.

The most important part of life I might add. Learning from our mistakes.

An opportunity for improvement and growth exists for all of us.

I hope that I do not do this again. I only type 25-30 words a minute...

Yep.. Had it happen a few times.. Or get it all typed out hit submit - and then network error and it vanishes into limbo... On mobile and weak signal here so posting can be a challenge at times.. Usually the macaques (monkees) learn colourful new human words when that happens... ( I suspect they use the monkey equivalent when I catch them raiding my fruit trees..)

Well there was this one time that I spent about half a night collating research into a .doc file and *BAM* the power blinked.

I wept. I wept openly. I wept like an infant.

And the thread I'd been researching? Never bothered to even consider it again.

Yep, been there, broke that...kicked a couple of things around...

Now, I always write in a Word processor, and, save, save, save...

Not fool proof...but, better then loosing an hour, or more...

May your rewriting be inspired!

Oh I feel your pain!!

I had a computer crash instead though. I was working on two threads, one on Mars and one on the TR3B and I had a lot of info and it was all typed up in Word. I had a few things left to do and pics to add to each. I worked on them for months and then the unthinkable happened my computer DIED and I lost everything. I was also suppose to be in a debate in the debate forum and couldnt because I had not computer. I was so MAD! I still have not redone either thread because all my resources were on that computer.

take out the hard disk and use it as an external hard drive.
set view hidden files, if you were using Word or any half decent word-processor there will be a hidden temporary file which is the last autosave of the document.

OP: i prefer to use Notepad++ since i usually have 20-40 tabs open in Firefox when i visit ATS, opening Word might overtax my processor, my browser has a spellchecker, though it's kinda funny: words like chemtrail are "wrong" and it insists on capitalizing words like google
