Today stands a hangar, cut off from the rest of the world on a government owned plot of land. Far enough away from any main road.
The last person to ever see the inside, stood in the dead center of an empty, and abandoned hangar. It was more than an abandoned hangar. It was an
abandoned project, and abandoned idea. An idea that would never serve the U.S Air Force in any meaningful way. In this empty hangar, the last thing
they had done was a final testflight to prove to their own development team that the technology worked. Prior to this, there were Generals and
Colonels, all overseeing the operation. These military leaders came to the conclusion that this project was not worth seeing through. The engine
design was stolen from the development team, and given to a subcontractor located around 150 miles north on a different base. The lone man thought to
himself, "If it weren't for the incident we would still have this contract." The cancellation of the project cost billions and billions of
taxpayer dollars. But before this...
Tests upon tests upon tests were ran. Air Force test pilots drugged up on amphetamines to fly long missions over night, and forget about what they
had flown were taken into medical bays on base. The craft had seen the Arctic Circle, the Grand Canyon. It had flown over Belgium, the Andes. It
punched through the earth's atmosphere where it was greeted by craft of all colors and makes, steering not to hit it. The craft's first mission
took it within 40 miles of the base. As the pilot flew it, it's nuclear fueled engine started to sputter. The pilot did all he could to regain
altitude, but he was dropping fast. Through the cloud cover, over the treetops, directly above a road. The pilot could make out two figures standing
outside of a car staring at his craft, as deadly fumes of radiation spewed onto them. He couldn't warn them. The 160th would be there soon to
retrieve him.
Years upon years of research. The ultimate decision to use nuclear-powered craft. The Air Force wanted them for the transportation of large objects.
The private contractors wanted them for high-powered assault vehicles to win military contracts, and begin building en masse. Originally recovered
in Germany, from German scientists. Manufactured from a weapon that Nazi's were planning to use. But the scientists had kept the technology from
the Nazi Party. Craft that produced a nuclear glow so bright, it would blind anyone standing next to it. Powerful craft, capable of hypersonic
speeds, and leaving the Earth's atmosphere in the blink of an eye.
And it all started when Germany received a transmission from space, after they launched their first rocket into space; thus showing whoever was out
there, that humans had finally reached the space age...
