Is there anyone here at ATS that can tell me if they know where the Carl Vinson Carrier is at this time. It's destination was Korea. It's important to know how long before it reaches it's destination. I'm sure someone knows. If you feel uncomfortable saying in a post please contact me via Private messages.

This is extremely important to me and my family. I would appreciate any help. The ship is accompanied by escort ships. I don't need a lot of detail just an approximation of where it might be at this time.

hm i thought the carrier is out to haiti ...:O

www.10news.com...

The deployment of the carrier group is not in response to North Korea's recent attack on a small South Korean island because the Vinson's deployment was scheduled long ago.

Not sure the info will be on there. From their FB page

Loose Lips Sink Ships! ANY discussion or speculation of the ship's location or anticipated inport dates may result in the revocation of access to this page. Remember, the bad guys DO follow our facebook page too.

Have you tried the family readiness group, It would be extremely rare and illegal for crew members to reaveal their location. If it a family member you're worried about, try contacting the flleet here

Look under command info / family info

Is it just me or does this whole post seem odd? Why is it important to know before it reaches it's destination?

A nice modern twist on an old classic.....

Didn`t an Israeli operation into Gaza have to be cancelled because some soldier mentioned it on his facebook page ?

Why is it so important for you to know where the ship and its escorts are? This seems strange to me, if you need to contact a family member for an emergency I would think you could do it through the Red Cross..

I actually can not believe some one wants to know that information.

I have to do my sworn duty and I am reporting you to NCIS.

They will probably be knocking on your door soon.

Look outside they are probably already watching you.

As of last Thursday the Vinson was off the coast of California engaged in a three week Composite Unit Training Exercise (COMPTUEX) after which it will be on a scheduled deployment. It is fairly close to San Diego (its home port) at the moment. "Scheduled deployment" MAY (I'm not positive) mean its headed to the Persian Gulf. We have only one carrier there at the moment, the Lincoln. I can keep you updated if you want.

We have eleven carriers (CVNs) Three are non-deployable at the moment. Two are in port. The rest are deployed. I can give you chapter and verse if you like, but there is nothing special or different about the Vinson. Here's the deal:

For awhile we had two carriers in the Persian Gulf. Lots of people got their panties in a twist over that one. But the "second" carrier is now in the Med about to visit Greece, then likely head home. If I had to pick a carrier to get worried about it would be the Washington. It's in the Yellow Sea participating in exercises with Japan and South Korea, all because of the North Koreans shelling S. Korean Islands. China does not like this. There's some tension there.

The Vinson is behaving normally in all respects. This is a scheduled deployment. It may very well be headed to the Gulf to relieve the Lincoln, which is scheduled to head to Norfolk for refueling here shortly. It is normally home ported out of Everett, Washington, but it was just announced this week that the Nimitz, now in Bremerton for scheduled maintenance, will take over the Everett slot as a home port.

I don't really see anything to get upset about here.

Ah, I see you edited your reply and shortened it considerably. On what basis do you make your claims?

As former navy I find it quite suspicious..

Contacting the red cross is snail mail...

They can not tell you where they are at. You have to live with that...

I will assume that it is mere ignorance and not someone baiting for information or trapping good people...

If you are immediate family you will know which chaplains office to contact. They will pass a message one way informing the sailor to contact the family member when duty allows.

OP has contacted me. I think there is some rule about revealing content of U2Us, so I won't just copy it here. (There is a legal precedent, BTW, that says you own correspondence sent to you. If push came to shove I believe that applies here, but I don't have the time or inclination to pursue it.) The gist of it is that I have erred in answering his question and, in true ATS style, wants to know "who" I am as if I am someone special (It's a conspiracy, don't you know!) If you happened to have read his first response before he changed it, (which was also public as long as it was there) he obviously thinks he knows more than anyone else and there's something special going on with the Vinson. I'm the one who actually answered his question, so apparently he doesn't like it if you don't answer it and doesn't like it if you do, so that kind of begs the question entirely, doesn't it? Actually, I was just trying to be helpful, but I think he was asking publicly for affirmation of his conspiracy theory. But this gets really strange. I told him ballpark where the Vinson is. He says I am wrong and 'not paying attention.' (This was in his public post.) So if I am to be labeled some sort of traitor for telling him where the Vinson is NOT (because I am wrong, he says), what would I be if I publicly told the board where it secretly IS?

Well, there is no secret. IMO there is nothing odd about the Vinson deployment, but only time will prove it. "Revealing" location information for our Carrier Strike Groups is not violating anything. This information is not secret and is publicly available, though you may have to pay for it. The Navy Times publishes this information weekly and more detailed analyses is available at places like Stratfor.com which will normally cost you $349 a year. I can tell you where every Carrier Strike Group and every Amphibious Group is within a few hundred miles. So can you. So can the Russians, the Chinese, and everyone else who deems it in their best interests to know. You can hide an SSBN anywhere you want, but carriers, which normally sail with a number of support ships, are simply too big to hide. You can see them on satellite pictures.

So we'll keep this on the back burner, and when the Vinson returns to San Diego in a few months will ask OP here what all the fuss was about.

FYI - this is a highly inappropriate forum to discuss ships movements. Obviously if we are aware of their location it is not classified, but still inappropriate. If you have an emergency and need to get in touch with a friend or family member on the ship, you should contact the American Red Cross. Provide the service member's name, rank and the vessel they are on and the Red Cross will get you in touch. The ship's participation in its current exercise is public knowledge, but where they will be deploying to is not.

Loose Lips Sink Ships. Use some #ing common sense.
