This was posted up on 12-1-10. I have looked at it a few times trying to figure out what it might be. lol I can't take it anymore and had to bring it here for you folks to give it a look over.

Seems the poster is filming a odd flashing light around Jupiter. A bit laser like. It doesn't really illuminate the whole sky or anything, it is more a streak. I highly doubt it is lightning because it keeps appearing basically in the same spot, almost as if something is hovering, yet you dont see any craft/

I don't know, so I am presenting it to the ATS pros! What do you think is a reasonable explanation for this?

Your link is malformed.. can you possibly re-link ? (Nevermind, you've caught it)

Got to say that it's not what I expected.. and except for a laser (or light) catching condensation (and.or particulates), the only other thing running through my head might be what are known as 'sprites'. But sprites dont generally occur in frequency in the same area (I may be wrong on that tho)..

Anyway.. I found it (the video) interesting, especially considering that the light 'appears' (at our pov) to have different angular appearances.

Very blurry..
IMO, it has nothing to do with Jupiter..
Could be there's a hill there we can't see and a flashing light on the hill...

While that may be true for the first video, the second video was shot a few minutes later and that clearly shows planes in the sky as well as the fact that you can hear them. Not to mention he shows them flying around Jupiter which he also points out.

I think it is just grainy because he isnt using night vision.

Every five seconds it flashes. Great find, thank you.

Thank you for your input Johnny, I know you have a very strong interest in this sort of thing so it means a lot to me that it may have you scratching your head a bit. I agree about it appearing that the angles change a tad.

Also for Jupiter to be that bright even though it is cloudy you would think you might see where the flash is coming from if it was a craft hovering wouldn't you?

Im going to try and grab a couple ss and see if I can zoom in to see anything.

These are just my attempts at reasonably Earthly explanations.

The repetitive light could have been a high power spotlight.
The kind they might use for the Grand opening of a store, or event.
I see them often in my town, when concerts are happening, or Casinos might be hosting a large event.
It looked close to that...Not exactly, but close.

The other light that appeared and faded looked like an iridium flare..From a Satellite.
You can learn about the timing of those here:
www.heavens-above.com...
They can appear as bright as the headlights on an airplane, then fade within seconds.

Those are my guesses.

Thank you for posting the video.

Well, I caught a screenshot and that wasn't easy! I zoomed it to 400% just to see. The footage wasnt that great to begin with, but this is what I got.

I also decided to just see what the black and white of it would look like. That was kind of interesting. This really doesnt look like it is coming from the ground to me to be a spot light.

Anyhow, here they are:

same photo in black and white

Could be a beacon light hitting the clouds... it flashes regularly and stays in the same location. Jupiter moves closer to the beam as it orbits

Just a guess

What's great about this video, is that the videographer calls his friend on speaker phone, live, during the recording and asks his friend to verify, but his friend says he can't see it.

This is an EXCELLENT form of investigation. So kudos to the videographer!

As for the light...who knows. Some good suggestions have been posted already.

Cool vid !

My guess is that it look like a routine patrol of our government and some E.T ..... flashing thing probably is the visual effect when they jump.

I concur with that!
A video with multiple occurrences. An instant second point of view.
Great presentation, without preconceived notions.
Thanks again

My thoughts exactly. Though I've no doubt it is, as has already been suggested, an earth bound spotlight it's the best presented piece of footage I've seen on Youtube.

I've seen the same effect myself where the spotlight is only visible when it hits low clouds and the fact that the second witness saw only Jupiter confirms that the light beam was local to the cameraman.

Soon someone will grab the video, replace the narration with dramatic music and present it as "Death Beam UFO from Jupiter".

Just a quick question, does anyone know where exactly this was filmed, what temperature the ground, and the atmosphere was in the local area at the time?? These things may help. There are various unusual atmospheric affects that happen when weather and other conditions are just right, this could be one of those.
Also, I am no expert on photography , but this video seems to be of the lowest possible quality , I was wondering if any of the predominant imaging experts on this site would be able to clear it up. Unfortunately , I do not know thier names

Any how, interesting footage, but I wish I had more information !

I don't see much point in "clearing up" the image in this video. A screenshot is good enough, it's the same thing each time it flashes, at about 6 second intervals.

The searchlight or beacon certainly sounds like one possible credible explanation, and 6 seconds seems like a resonable interval if that's the case.

If it was a strobe from a plane, it would be flashing more frequently, right? Don't plane strobes have to flash at least 40 times a minute? If so I think we can rule out a plane strobe.

He said it's cloudy.

If the beam is hitting a cloud, that's what will be illuminated, and below that where there's no cloud for the beam to reflect off of, you won't necessarily see the beam, especially in cloudy conditions like this.

I personally like the "big ol satellite bigger than Jupiter" that shows up towards the end.

So we have a suspect strobe-like streak being explained as an earth-bound beacon or light from plane through clouds.
Then we have a huge 'something' passing above Jupiter

Okie dokie.

So instead of putting these two events together, we separate them!
Seems stringing together coincidences is an act of convenience and usually sounds more foolish than the mystery itself.
