Yeah i'd agree with that one.

The guy can be a bit of a tool in front of the cameras at times, he was sucking water out of horse crap once...mmmm nom nom...not much risk of infection there then.

Any meat except spined fish and some insects.

If you're starving, you'll eat whatever you can...just look at those folks on Survivor who decided to eat the rats who kept plaguing their camp....

While roaches wouldn't be my first choice, if in a pinch....

Still though, my goal would certainly be to try and satisfy my taste buds, AND not starve, if I could help it...but you gotta do what you gotta do to survive.

I draw the line at human flesh. If it comes to that I will either starve or hasten the process. I don't mind being someone else's dinner if they are so inclined, but I refuse to make them mine.

I have an unreasonable, morbid fear of many insects (odd for an old country gal, I know) but I would eat them roasted

So, How can I tell if a bug is edible? .

All in all, there are 15 orders of edible insects: * Anoplura - lice * Orthoptera - grasshoppers, crickets and cockroaches * Hemiptera - true bugs * Homoptera - cicadas and treehoppers * Hymenoptera - bees, ants and wasps * Diptera - flies and mosquitoes * Coleoptera - beetles * Lepidoptera - butterflies and moths * Megaloptera - alderflies and dobsonflies * Odonata - dragonflies and damselflies * Ephemetoptera - mayflies * Trichoptera - caddisflies * Plecoptera - stoneflies * Neuroptera - lacewings and antlions * Isoptera - termites

I second this. This is pretty much where I draw the line. I've never been days long hungry, so I can't say for sure. I would probably try to salvage the meat if possible.

As for waiting for roaches to mature...that's stupid. Fatten the roaches? How many days is that? That one poster would be eating his cellmates after 1 day. Glad I'm not on lockup with him.

That indeed was the book.

Interesting book I thought, good survival lessons.

Prisoners in prisons like that are some of the ultimate survivors if they manage to last more than a few years.

[more

I was wondering when someone would bring up Bear's survival eating habits.

The funny thing about that is he is a vegetarian in normal life, now that's devotion for ya!

Speaking as a reformed chocoholic I hope I'm never starving with only chocolate available to eat.

It was hard giving up and I've needed an iron will. I just don't think the prospect dying of starvation is a reasonable excuse for ever eating it again

Although, if it saved the life of a cockroach I think I could choke some chocolate down........

I would eat anything, as long as I could hold it down.

other humans, goats balls, fetus, dog semen, cockroaches, feaces, mucus

You got to do what you got to do.

I thought it sounded familiar, i have it by the side of me here.

Now if the UK prisons were like that, we'd have less problems i think.

I certainly wouldn't want to go there lol.

I would restrict my diet to humans...because they're plentiful and they'll never run out...at least not in my lifetime.
I think baby meat would be the best though. Like veal, only better.

I hear that people taste like pork, might as well test the theory if put in that situation.

i've done quite a few 4-7 day fasts before sweat lodge ceremonies.
i've also survived a 10 day 'juice' fast.
the thing with hunger is it's the first couple days where you are hungry.
there is actually a point after 3-4 days where your body gets a craving to be active.
almost like there is a release of stored energy.
there's your trick though, the less food, the less energy there is to burn.
covering ground avoiding capture is where your done in no time.
couple of days is all we have.
as far as what i'd eat, most likely just about anything,
except oysters.
you'd have to water board me for weeks to get me to go there.
