hmm I find it hard to find a movie that TRULY scares me. But I love this genre so here goes
:
House of 1000 corpses/The devils rejects
Paranormal activity
IT by Stephen king(I do not like clowns)
Dracula (the one with Lugosi, not that its scary its just a good classic)
Jeepers Creepers(mm again not that scary just good)
Evil dead 3 (funny but good)
Pumpkinhead
Dagon (the one based on H.P.Lovecrafts book)
Hellraiser
The exorcism of Emily Rose
The Shining
I could write more but I just dont remember now

Here's a better list:
The Old Dark House
The Innocents
The Shining
Night of the Living Dead (all the more because it's public domain)
Children of the Corn

Children of the Corn....yep forgot that one.
(again, creepy damn kids do it every time, hehe...)

As for Mouth of Madness, just a great mix...rolling King and Lovecraft together? Genius!

Saw
but ONLY the first one. i still get queezy when he's gettin after his own leg! ugh. Seriously though the ending is what got me the most. I never, for one second, thought that ending would play out like it did. I'm trying to be as little detailed as possible so i don't give away to much lol

Also, the Blair Witch Project. Like it or not, it was great movie.

I still haven't seen this... I've heard to many bad things from my friends and read even worse stuff online lol. Would you seriously recommend it?

I thought it was pretty good man.
Built up the tension well and the jumpy bits are...well.... jumpy

If you like over the top gore and silly monsters and so on.... probably give it a miss... not that someone can't enjoy all kinds of horror, but this is more suspenseful and psychological I guess... it has atmosphere.

I liked it.... not a life changing film but pretty tense all the same... and for the budget, fantastic really.

I remember there were a couple of girls screaming in my cinema..

I've since bought the DVD and watched without the girly screams and whimpers.

ETA:

I don't think the marketing campaign helped... "The most terrifying movie EVER" and blah blah.... why do they always do that?

I watched it on DVD I think it missed something, but maybe it was one of those movies you need to be in the theater for? It had a lot of great idea's but I don't think the budget was there...

You have to go into it expecting it to be slow. It takes it's time, but this does serve a purpose, and does build the tension well. The only downside is the very last few seconds (the idea is ok, but the CGI just doesn't fit the rest of the film). I enjoyed it though, and the sequel looks to be good.

Movies like this though, are definitely theater movies. If you do watch it at home, do it right, on a big screen tv, and with all of the lights and other distractions out of sight and mind...

Well the original ending is on the DVD as "Alternate ending" and it works much better.
You can blame Paramount for the ending....it was them who added the effects,

The other two other alternate endings are much better.

Both the throat slitting one and the police shooting one.

Oh well.... that's what happens when a big film company get hold of a great little indie film I guess.

Yep, I saw the alternate endings on the web. The police one was much better I thought.

I saw a quick snippet of the same cheesy effect in the trailer for the sequel, so that kind of sucks, but I think the creep factor of the kid will really make it worth seeing tonight.

It was, why didn't they go with that? I dunno man.

And yes... I think I'll go tomorrow.... It's either that or saw 3D and I don't really like the saw movies.
Liked the first 2 I guess, the first was fantastic... but now, they're just silly.

Paranormal Activity 2 should be ok I'm sure.
