Magnitude 6.9 - GULF OF CALIFORNIA

A foreshock is an earthquake that is smaller than a mainshock, precedes it, and
is causally related to it. Foreshocks are quite common. For California, Jones
(1984) has determined that half of the magnitude 5.0 and greater, strike-slip
earthquakes are preceded by immediate foreshocks (earthquakes within 72 hours
and 10 kilometers of their mainshock). Almost all foreshocks occur less than 72
hours before the mainshock.


1 When an earthquake occurs, it is either a foreshock or a “background” event. Since it is possible that the earthquake may be a foreshock, it increases the probability that a larger earthquake will occur within 72 hours and 10 km.

2 How much the probability increases will depend on how anomalous it is, that is, on the background seismicity patterns in the vicinity.

3 Smaller earthquakes are more common than larger earthquakes. A magnitude 1.0 earthquake anywhere along the San Andreas fault will only marginally increase the chance of a larger earthquake occurring within 72
hours.

4 On the other hand, if a magnitude 5.0 earthquake occurs within 10 km of the San Andreas fault, the probability of a major (magnitude at least 7.5) earthquake within 72 hours increases significantly.

I dreamed last night that the Caldera at Yellowstone blew up. There was a sound like air raid sirens and some strange mechanical device going down our street. I don't know what the mechanical device was, it was sort of like a tank but different, and painted white and blue camo colors. There was something very long mounted on the front of it, and it could spin around 360 degrees very quickly. Everyone was trying to get to the East Coast. I hope my dream does not come true, but I have been feeling like something is about to happen, now this earthquake. I think I am picking up on something about to happen.

I've always loved that line. Something about it just kind of resonates with me as if there's some deep truth reflected there...

BTW - has anyone noticed that the "Weirdness" index re: recent events continues to grow almost exponentially of late? Started somewhat slowly about 6 months ago and has been really ramping up over the past few weeks like the classic "hockey stick" graph...

Can't wait to see what tomorrow brings, but I'm getting the feeling it's time to buckle up...

Ive noticed it too, Solar activity, UFO activity , Earthquakes, it's all going to culminate into one huge event. (IMO)

This guy is predicting a big one based on recent events, and astrology. It's actually really mind blowing

It will - Christ's return for his faithful via the Rapture, and then the battle of Armageddon. The signs you mention are warnings to mankind.

They have been calling the drill 'the great shake out' for weeks I guess they were going for realisim. I was driving when it happened and even if I wasn't I wouldn't care earthquakes are part of life. The earth is a living thing so why should it be still.

I posted this in the other 6.9 quake thread but thought I'd place it in this one too since the drill was also mentioned here.

I often subscribe to the "coincidence camp" side of things and don't think that governments, or anyone, can actually cause quakes especially at specific times but this is indeed interesting.

It was downgraded to a 6.7mag - I posted it literally as I got the information before it was completely reviewed which most people do, then later on you edit your post and correct the magnitude except it's been over 4hrs now so I can't edit my title/OP.
