Well, thank you for your thoughts.
My upbringing...it's true..I never knew my father! Ahahha

But, yeah...I'm pretty rational, and I don't agree that a good alternative for being outside is for a child to sit around and watch porn.

Your sociality skills are in question to me, but that doesn't really matter.

Again, you do not have to protect what you do behind closed doors...That's not what this is about.

My exposure to porn has generally been after a football game or such with a few friends and pizza and beer more of a male bonding experience not gawking by myself,I can take it or leave it but the authors at the link are right there are many that develop major problems from it.As for using a credit card to look at porn Id rather use it on the real deal at the local girlie bar.

Lol

Sounds like you're spending your money a little more wisely than some.

Porn can make you gay.

Excessive straight porn could in theory turn someone gay, based on simple archetypal associations. The culprit is the classic "money shot", which almost all pornos end with. The target receiving the money shot varies, be it the breasts, face, mouth, boobs, back, butt, ect. The point I'm trying to make is that the female parts at this moment of maximum stimulation become little more than variables, whereas the only constant is the male member ejaculating.

That constant makes a stronger and more persistent association in the mind than the variables do, and someone could conceivably rewire their brains to become excited by the male parts rather than the female ones.

Just a theory I have.

Actually...that's more than a theory in some cases.
My legal dad had something of that sort happen.

He eventually didn't like physical contact with my mother or women.
Through time, his porns became more cheap, more violent, and he just sort of masturbates all the time.

He's what you'd call a perfect example of an unhealthy mind.
I would go farther into it, but yeah, long story short, he's gay now and doesn't shower.

Gay's fine, but a theory about porn being capable of turning you gay sounds very unhealthy.
I think you're onto something.

What about babies mad?

Well, living in this world as a witness of some interesting things is one of my references.

Also, the authors I mentioned.

The only time I use english now is here on ats .. So my english is bit rusty.. In attempt to clarify.. Seems most of the fuss over sex and by extension porn as its an expression of sex is by narrowminded religious nuts afraid of the human body and natural human drives i.e sex .. Thus they attempt to ignore it and act like something thats natural is wrong .. Not only by their complaining about porn but also opposing proper sex education and birth control.. Wouldnt be all the fuss if it werent for them trying to force their ignorance upon everyone else..

I'm not sure what you're saying, but it sounds weird...
Like, you're with your family one minute...and then you go off to your own little room to relax...and release alone?

More power to you, bruh.
As I said...I'm not bashing anyone. This isn't meant to judge porn addicts.

It's an open discussion about porn in general, and whether it's truly dangerous.
If you don't believe it's particularly dangerous to your mind, please say why so that all the readers may properly examine it.

I think this is a fascinating conversation between everyone. It should be stress free and not be striking anyone's sensitive spots.

Hey man. You're definitely at the wrong site to be asking this. There's a lot of very self aware people here, who lack the common sense of the common man.

This is why you keep getting the answers that you're getting. The people here naively think/believe that if they are not all too influenced by things such as porn, or violent media, then it must not affect anyone else except morons. What they fail to realize is that only a small percentage of people are truly self aware. Most people are operating at a much lower level of awareness, and are heavily influenced by everything they take in.

Yes, I think it's dangerous.

Even if the statistics for rape have gone down, I don't think rapes have actually gone down. I'd go as far as to say that the reports of rape have likely decreased significantly. The people are obviously demoralized, man. Porn is certainly a small reason for this.

Ohhhh, I see.

Natural sex is nice, isn't it?

I believe I agree with you for the most part. You have people that are basically saying sex in general is wrong.
That sort of the ideology is that of the unhealthy mind.

What I'm saying is that porn does not fuel natural sex...
It does not fuel emotions or a loving couple.

Playboy is probably one of the more "classy" types of porn, but that certainly isn't all that's out there.

Thank you for clarifying your meaning.

Porn has gone down in the way that law enforcement has "cracked down" on a lot more.

It's harder to get away with things now. DNA testing and such.

As you can imagine, before we had this technology, there wasn't as much to fear.

I probably should have put that in my post in stead of saying simply it has gone up without mentioning to people to ignore the technology and just factor in rape happening now.
Thank you for mentioning that...I probably would have forgotten.

I tried to make it clear to everyone that I'm not judging them for what they're doing...but just mentioning that it IS unhealthy.
I'm getting replies, like, just about saying to set your kid down to masturbate in front of porn to keep him off the streets.

It's very shocking to me,
so you really make sense.

Yes, uhh...I put a lot of statistics.

I do not see any statistics in your OP that show that there is more rape now that there is porn compared to say hundreds of years ago when there was no porn. You provided absolutely no facts or sources to back up any of your claims. That is what I am asking you to do. Show us that porn causes rape.

I do not watch porn. However, I do not believe that rape is caused by looking at porn. Rape is not based on sexual feelings. Rape is about power and control. It's causes have nothing to do with watching porn.

Since you refuse to back up your claims with facts, here you go:

Does Pornography cause social issues
Guess what. Since the arrival of Internet porn:

* Sexual irresponsibility has declined. Standard measures include rates of abortion and sexually transmitted infections. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), since 1990, the nation's abortion rate has fallen 41 percent. The syphilis rate has plummeted 74 percent. And the gonorrhea rate has plunged 57 percent.

* Teen sex has declined. The CDC says that since 1991, the proportion of teens who have had intercourse has decreased 7 percent. Teen condom use has increased 16 percent. And the teen birth rate has fallen 33 percent.

* Divorce has declined. Since 1990, the divorce rate has decreased 23 percent.

* Rape has declined. According to the Justice Department's National Crime Victimization Survey, since 1995, the sexual assault rate has fallen 44 percent.

Is Pornography a Catalyst of Sexual Violence?
Recent research suggests the opposite is true.

So in the last two decades, we have conducted a vast experiment on the social consequences of such material. If the supporters of censorship were right, we should be seeing an unparalleled epidemic of sexual assault. But all the evidence indicates they were wrong. As raunch has waxed, rape has waned.

This is part of a broad decrease in criminal mayhem. Since 1993, violent crime in America has dropped by 58 percent. But the progress in this one realm has been especially dramatic. Rape is down 72 percent and other sexual assaults have fallen by 68 percent. Even in the last two years, when the FBI reported upticks in violent crime, the number of rapes continued to fall.

Well, we have quite the radical, yet diverse, crowd here on ATS. Many of their out-there suggestions may actually work for their own kids. Some kids learn best by being treated as adults and allowing them to experience the world as it is from the get-go. Others need to be sheltered and treated as kids until a certain milestone is reached. Some work best by being taught from their parents and community. Others are self-learners, and seem to have a complex, innate moral compass.

I believe you will find that use of cellphones have gone up, as well as incidence of rape has risen. This clearly ties cellphone use to rape, as per your argument.

Once prostitution becomes pervasive, by means of economic ruin, I do believe that rape will increase because the act will become seen more as simple robbery. The perp will reason that sex is something he just could not afford at the moment, so he's just smashing the window and grabbing the candy. Listen to your police scanner. Every five seconds someone is driving off with a tank of unpaid for gas. Women are selling themselves, and the people are starving on many fronts. To have sex as something for sale is much more of a rape lure than even the most odious pornography.

If as you suggest, porn causes mutations in criminal thought, then perhaps we ought be forced to view it, if only as a means to draw out the vulnerable ones. It is not that hard to do. I think you'd find that the vast majority of persons are able to keep their own sexual ideas separate from 'porn'.

My motto in life is, "Balance in ALL things, Period" So that goes for eating, drinking, exercise, sleeping, working, playing, sex and or porn. Hence you can always get too much of anything in life and not appreciate it. In and of these things are not good or bad in themselves, as Blue Shift posted. It is how we perceive and project our experiences on to them and the belief definitions we hold to them etc

sexual assault and rape are usually about control and violence more than stimulation. i doubt there's any real connection between porn and attacks on women.

even if there was some kind of link, odds are the men who do both are less inspired by porn than both their traits as abusers and porn consumers come from a common source of womanizing.

This statement is illogical. Porn influences people in a variety of ways. Someone who may never have thought of rape before watching it, may then become fixated on the concept after experiencing the high of fantasizing such power and control possibilities.

As for the statistics, there are far too many variables to the evolving complexity of societies over the last several decades to say with any confidence from these results that the rise in watching of porn has caused a decrease in rape. I can show you how our hormones have been whacked out over the same time period, and testosterone levels have dwindled. Wouldn't that be a factor to consider as well?

Porn today is easily 100 times more available than it was prior to the internet.
Has rape gone up 100 times?
No.
The evidence is that porn and even child porn reduces rape.
Those who make child porn should of course be executed.
