Would it work if I put the avatar location as a file name on my computer? Or would the pic not be there when I change computers?

No of course not.

The image has to be online, on a server.

Create an account on the following website, they allow you to upload 1 MB of files.

www.boomspeed.com...

No of course not.

You CANNOT display a pic that is on your harddisk.
You will have uto upload it to a webserver.

Go to the following website, make a new accoutn, upload the pic and use the pics URL to display it as your avatar.

www.boomspeed.com...

NB: The pic may not exceed 75K and can not be wider than 160 Pixels!

Clear??

Oh, one more thing,

DO NOT create an account at geocities.com, or Tripod.com or other free webhosts like that.
Boomspeed.com however does allow remote linking.
A member on this board called, "Tyler" uses boomspeed.com too...

They don't allow remote linking to images. Which means that the images hosted on their servers will dislay on Geocities, or tripod websites.

They wont show up anywhere else!

I have an account with a server called 50megs. I was just wondering if you can go direct, because it would be faster. I guess not though.
Thanks

I've never bothered with an avatar because the one I tried was only visible for one day. I realised that the host server wasn't very reliable.

I've opened an account with boomspeed.com & am awaiting my validation number. I will use a very small & simple avatar, as I realise how they can slow the pages when loading.

Cheers now,
Deep

Like I said I use 50megs.
www.50megs.com
Sign up for the free account, you get a bunch of space, but the tags are already there, and you have to use a template.(I think) But this makes inserting images really easy.

Thanks for the info Zion. I signed up at Boomspeed and downloaded an image and tried to put it in a post but it didn't work. It said I had to do something with a HTML creator. I'm not really up to speedon this, does this make any sense? Here is the post I tried to upload a pic on: xmb.abovetopsecret.com...

ProudAmerican
Change the [ to <
It should look like like this, (I left a space between < and img or else it wouldn't show up so just delete that space when you post pictures. P.S. I put the picture up under your post on your last thread.)

< img src=http://www.boomspeed.com/larryu44/aaasmartgirl

No problem...
But I just noticed add < /img>
After the link. Forgot things in brackets don't show up...lol Again take out the space. So it looks like this (without the space after< )
< img src=http://www.boomspeed.com/larryu44/aaasmartgirl< /img>

here's a simpler alternative to boomspeed...
no need to register an account or anything.

echelon , I uploaded a image on that site but still no avatar . The image was originally uploaded about 3 weeks ago. And it worked and everything. But until sometime during last week , when all I got was the red X box. I went back to the lathwood site. And I notice that the format has kind of changed from when I first went there almost 3 weeks ago. The image wasn't there , so I uploaded it again. But now there's 2 codes that are shown. One code for HTML and the other for vBulletin . With these 2 codes , which one would be the one to type in as a avatar URL ? Or is there something different that has occured ?
------------------------------------------------------------------------
P.S. I miss seeing my avatar

they both have the same url... just different tags.
so all you need is the http:// location.

eg...
< img src='mig.lathwood.co.uk...' border='0' >

[ IMG ]mig.lathwood.co.uk...[/ IMG ]

so all you add to the profile is... mig.lathwood.co.uk...

I used www.100megsfree4.com...

Even though I'm merely using that site to (occasionally) tinker around with learning HTML, I still can get a direct links to a pics page I've got set up there.
