Thanks Jess, the piccies are much appreciated as they have brought some colour and necessary distraction to the day.

They also serve to remind us that our world is a truly manificent place filled with beauty we don't see due to being stuck in our day to day grind for dollars to live.

I know many focus on the problems and issues in our world, which is all good, but there are times when a small break to breathe, to look at nature, etc, is what is needed most.

Pffft to the naysayers... go complain elsewhere so we can just enjoy the offerings here.

Jess

The Richat Structure is definitely an alien looking formation. It is located in the Sahara desert with a diameter of 30 miles. It has become a landmark for space shuttle crews because of the bull's eye shape is has. It was first thought to have been caused by a meteor because of the circular indentation, but has now be concluded its a result of erosion.

The Stone Forest (China)

[atsimg]http://files.abovetopsecret.com/images/member/ddb1cc4b6f7b.jpg[/atsimg]

The Shilin ( meaning Stone Structure ),is a set of karst formations in Shilin Yi Autonomous County, in the Yunnan province of southwest China. Upon seeing the structures, they look like tree's made of stone, looking like a stone forest. The park covers an amazing 350 km. Each year around the 24th and 25th day of the sixth lunar month, many Yi people celebrate the Torch Festival, which features folk dances and wrestling competitions. The structures are believed to be over 270 million years old!

The Blue Lagoon (Iceland)

[atsimg]http://files.abovetopsecret.com/images/member/3e27f1407b46.jpg[/atsimg]

The blue lagoon is a geothermal spa located in Iceland and one of the most visited attractions there. The warm waters of the lagoon are very rich in minterals like sulphur and silica and its believes that bathing in it helps some people who suffer from skin diseases such as psoriasis. The water temperature averages 104 F. The warm water is due to the lava flow that comes under the ground.

Pretty good, someone last year had another thread of the weirdest places on earth and that was even crazier. I've seen many of those that you have, but never the bullseye mark from maratuna. I don't buy the erosion but you never know.

Jess, that structure is interesting. A closer look at it seems to indicate the eroding wind patterns in the sand occur in a cyclonic counter-clockwise direction. That is most interesting because this particular area of Africa is the place that gives "birth" to cyclonic winds rising up from the desert heat and out into the Atlantic that eventually can become Tropical Storms and Hurricanes. We can almost think of this as natural indicator of the birthplace of Atlantic Hurricanes...

Yes, you have to upload them to ATS Media first, then when you click on the picture in ATS Media it will give you three links you can copy and paste, and one of them is to where you can embed them on a thread or post in ATS. =]
