Extending unemployment is the only way that the government can keep the lies about economic recovery and keep Americans from taking to the streets in anger and prevent anarchy

The best answer yet as to why. The idiots that be in power made the economy fail and they had better not cut off funding or they will all be chased out of the country or worse.

I scoff at the idea that working in a job is "slave labor". That's the most pathetic thing I've heard yet. For one, I love my job and I'm thrilled that I get paid as much as I do for what I do. There are many, many others like me in this country. As for the fundamentals of a working society - if no one works then how do resources get created? We can't all just laze around doing nothing but being a nation of consumers. In order to live people need certain things like food and shelter. I guess you figure the government should take care of us all while we not work? Or that God should make manna fall from the sky every day? Seriously, the conclusion that working people are slaves is the biggest joke I've heard this year.

The problem is your have 3 -5 % of our populace holding over 90% of the wealth. Yet they a complaining because now they will have to get their gold-plated toilet paper made domestically. They hold the money yet will not spend to stimulate. The corporations have the key to making new jobs as the wealth resides with them and greedy stockholders. The reason the government really MUST extend benefits is that when those people who lost their income fail to get a job in a down-turned economy and lose their assets , the government and such lose those assets and their power. THen you have millions of homeless people created in a very short time with families crowding your streets, working underground, and resorting to criminal misdeeds.

It is really essential for those people to get work, but if work is not there then what? I am one of these jobless and I do not even get any benefits! Lucky my girl's parents are great!

You have never seen the documentaries showing how our government is in bed with the corporations, yes?

Shame. Basically we slave for all of them one way or another.
And they all collect most of your "earnings" one way or another - and NOT to run a gov for the people. It's truthfully a giant slave plantation, where our owners live high above us waging wars and trying to control the rest of the world. Why? NOT for YOUR benefit, I promise you this.

Thanks for chiming in Marg, I think that you are right.

To cut off this flow of funds might be disastrous at this point.

Why the Anger over Unemployment Extension?

It is simply another means of perpetuating the myth, and maintaining the divide and conquer paradigm via obfuscation, subsequently steering the herd of pissed off Americans to hate another faction of our population, the recently Unemployed.

The sad truth of the matter is that there are currently 6 applicants for every current job opening in the United States. So Do the math.

I doubt that those 6 unemployed are exactly happy to be unemployed OR had much choice in the matter.

I also seriously doubt that many are exactly "Living High off The Hog" while currently upon unemployment.

For Remember that you ARE required to pay taxes on unemployment benefits as well. Or they can and will haul your unemployed a$$ off to jail !

For do not forget, we are now back to the age old system of debtor imprisonment. Thanks to GW Bush pushing for the passing of bankruptcy legislation, conveniently, just in time for our recession !

"But It's Adding to the Deficit !" the gainfully employed continuously rant and rage !!

How very True, But lest we forget the very largest fiscal expenditure in our Government's Annual Budget ? As well as the Billions of Dollars spent per day, on not one, but two wars ?

How soon we forget, the fact that our war expenditures add to the Deficit as well ?
~ "Sound of Crickets" ~

Remember that Our original system of governance you might recall was originally created .... "By the people and FOR the People".

And not necessarily only FOR the benefit of a select few of new wealthy ruling class of Americans whom are owned by the Industrial Military Complex, and who vote for these wars that Dwight D Eisenhower and JFK so ardently warned us about.

Plain and Simple....

'Nuff Said.

black cat, one reason it is slave labor, is that we are forced to work for the government by paying an estimated 40% of our income on taxes, but then we are not represented. The boston tea party shouted about no taxation without representation, and that was over a piddly 8% tax. Now we hand over our 40%, and sit back watching TV and football, as our congressmen regularly represent corporate interest in opposition to the working class. THAT is why its called slave labor. That, and you dont have a choice. In the past, if you had no food or money, you could at least go hunt or fish, and throw up a shelter in the woods. Now the poor dont even have that option.

A couple of very good points you've brought up. And this is really helping me to put the whole thing into perspective. No better way to pass some more crap, than getting much of the population against another portion of the population. The gainfully employed now seeing the unemployed as the deficit problem is just amazing.

The Military Industrial Complex, the Corporations with the most lobby-ists and of course, our government "representatives" are the only ones who win, all around.

UNLESS this whole thing came crashing down.

1. This is all being done on purpose.
2. Most of the major banks bought up most of the "toxic assets" worth "nothing" with our bailout money.
3. These banks now own almost 80% of large scale business with over 500 employees in our country.
4. Now that they own most of the country they will start the enslavement program in full force.
5. They are now taxing gold and want to know how you make for a living ( cnsnews.com... )
6. This is Germany / Russia all over again, but Obama is the new Stalin / Hitler.
7. If you aren't paying attention you don't realize the media is trying to start a race war in our country.
8. This was what Hitler did when he wanted to separate the people. I will use the famous quote and break it down for you...

"THEY CAME FIRST for the Communists,
and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a Communist.

THEN THEY CAME for the trade unionists,
and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a trade unionist.

THEN THEY CAME for the Jews,
and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a Jew.

THEN THEY CAME for me
and by that time no one was left to speak up."

8.5
"THEY CAME FIRST for the Wall Street Investor,
and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a Investor.

THEN THEY CAME for the Tea Party,
and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a tea bagger.

THEN THEY CAME for the Whites / Black / Hispanic,
and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a White / Black / Hispanic.

THEN THEY CAME for me
and by that time no one was left to speak up."

9. This post may be a bit radical, but its because I had beer for breakfast....

Either way - This whole game is being supported and played because of the almighty dollar. This whole financial mess was a planned idea - but "TPTB" started to freak out a bit once they realized it started getting out of their hands. The real question now is, is it sill out of control? And if so, whose in control of the economy?

All I see is a falsified sense of scarcity of jobs. The banks don't want to lend money, yet they got billions from TARP. Most of the bailout money is unaccounted for and the majority of it was either used to buy out more assets that were foreclosed or toxic. Where did the rest of it go?

Whose paying for the $1trillion dollar a year spy program they are using on the citizens? Where did all that money come from? Washington Post made a little stink the beginning of the week. Things aren't adding up folks - and all I see is an engineered mess that will attempt to create more control - because its NEEDED because everything is SO BROKEN.......

Well, I guess it is better that the unemployment payments keep coming so at least it will maybe stave off more bankruptsies. But we still need some good jobs programs like was done after the great depression.

You should be required to submit a resume when you collect unemployment.

Then your resume would be put into a database and instead of opening more unemployment offices, turn it into a job finding agency run by the government; hell, use some of those unemployed people to do it!

Then instead of having to pay for 99 weeks of added benefits, pay the one centralized agency to put those people to work. If jobs come up fill the positions using the unemployed workers. If they turn down a job offer, decrease their UI benefit pay until they take a job. If they take a job that doesn't offer competitive pay, give them a tax break until they find better work, but freakin incentivise the idea of people working!!!!!!

Its not slave labor to have to work, nor is it slave labor to take a job you may not enjoy as much. ITS JUST WORKING. You know, you do stuff you're told or expected to do, and get a paycheck for it. Too many people riding around their clydesdale becuase they don't want to settle for a pony.

Falsified scarcity of jobs?? there is 19% real unemployment, thats 1 out of every 5 people without a job. Thats falsified scarcity? Some places, like detroit, are 40%!!

And many of those jobs are minimum wage....not living wage. In the US it is quite clear that you have as much freedom as you can afford, and a person making minimum wage is far from free. They are trapped in dead end jobs, many for the rest of their lives.

Many people here are playing rebel against the government, but at the same time have drank the kool aid.

Of course working is slaving. At least how it is set up in this country. Only thing is, it's voluntary slavery. So happens that there's a percentage of people that love what they do. To determine if you're slaving answer this: Would you do your job even if you weren't getting paid?

This country has advanced far enough with tech that we don't have to work as hard as we do. People who pipe on "kids these days are afraid of a little hard work" are remnants and parrots of what they were programmed to think back in the 50's and 60's. This country has the tech and manpower to where we could work half the hours we do and everyone be able to make it.

Thanks for touching on the real unemployment numbers, of which we really don't have an idea. I also say it's around 20%, but that maybe low. And as you say in some cities it's WAY higher!

Like I said I work in unemployment and for every job advertised in my not so small city, there are at least 1,000 resumes and applicants. A employer may ask us to post a job and accept only 200 applications. That quota is met within one day.

Many people have no idea how bad it is out there. If it were not for food stamps, unemployment and other forms of assistance, people would be rioting in the streets. We would everyday be hearing of murder/suicides and average citizens would become criminals.

Do any of you know the feeling of being hungry with no money in sight? It's one of the most terrible feelings there is. And when you reach that point you really don't care what you have to do to feed yourself.

I think the reason why there is so much anger over the unemployment issue, this anger being especially directed at the unemployed in some very hateful ways, is because it is easier to get angry at a common person in a bad situation. I liken it to kicking people when they are down.

Instead of directing the anger towards the "cause(s)" of this economic downturn, who and what are not as easily accessible for venting and/or anger purposes, etc. (i.e. bankers, corporate fatcats, etc.) that anger is being directed towards the "affect(s)" - the people who lost their jobs, a huge majority of which lost their jobs through NO FAULT OF THEIR OWN!

It truly saddens me to see such a backlash towards the unemployed. Yes some people are riding the system, there will always be a percentage of those types --but many of us are not and are trying very hard to get back out of the hole we found ourselves in.

I can honestly say that I have looked for work every day I have been unemployed, some days over 12 hours, nationwide, tailoring my letters to each job that I apply for. It discourages me greatly when I see people bashing the unemployed when that anger should really be directed to the people that brought the economy down in the first place which resulted in the mass job loss.

Thanks for reading.

That stupid misleading poem you reproduced misses just one majoar point:
Who were the 'they' that came for those sainted groups? They were al SOCIALISTS seeking to make a perfect socialist world. THe intent wasnt to get rid of those things, it was to set up their own copies.
Think about it, it wasnt the church, it wasnt conservatives, it was self professed SOCIALISTS every time and in every place.

Well, there is already a disability system, and a welfare system, and other aid systmes. The perpetual payment of 'unemployment' is nothing more than a new parallel welfare system. Fed gvt has no right to take fed money and pick which group will get privileges. Yeah I know they do, but that is favoritism.
To bad the only thing that can stop this ie military coup of the current crop of subversives, wont happen althought there's a risk of tyranny from them, there's a dead certainty of tyranny from the current crew.
