Laser used to shoots down planes

www.telegraph.co.uk

Laser beams have been used for the first time in naval warfare to shoot down aircraft, it can be disclosed. The weapon, mounted on a warship’s missile, shot down four unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV) in secret testing carried out off the California coast, The Daily Telegraph has learnt.
In a joint enterprise between US Navy and Raytheon Missile Systems the technology has now got to the stage where lasers will be deployed on warships as part of their short-range defence.

I did a search and didn't find this topic posted , if it has been posted , please let me know .

Ever since seeing Star Wars as a kid you just knew it would only be a matter of time until plaines were being shot out of the sky by lasers .
I don't think many will be very surprised by this revelation , but it's pretty dam cool none the less .

You are right , it has been posted there .

Even though ATS does allow a duplicated post as long as one is in the breaking news forum please give the first poster his dues and pot in the original post .

Don't think there will be any pilots in the future. War will begin placing humans as far away as possible from the battle field.

How AWESOME!

Maybe this is why I have been hearing about these "drones" crashing...

I wonder if they have Allison K. on the development, she is the lead when it comes to lasers and planes!

I tend to agree , future plaines will most likely be controlled remote , no pilot involved .

However , I believe that this is a tech that other countries will develop in the very near future . The real question may be , who will be the first to develop the force field ?

you mean this?

It's Cold Plasma, and it seems to be one of the most likely candidates for force field like technology.

Oooo very cool and very pretty .

The conspiracy side of me wonders if this news is being released now because they also have these nifty force fields ready to go .

Grettings Max,

I mostly agree with you. I am however, of the firm belief that if the technology has been released to the public, it is somewhat older technology. Why release the tech now? Other countries can then develop tech to defeat it.

My belief is that we already have tested tech that is much further advanced than the laser tech.

Shields up Number 1. Yes, thinking we have that tech as well. Why not? Would we really use technology we ourselves can't defeat? I think not.

Just my humble opinion though.

Is this really "Breaking News", isn't this why we have a Weaponry forum? Seems like everything is getting dumped into Breaking these days.

As for the development itself, I don't think it's true to say that this is the first time we have ever shot down an aircraft with a laser system, small aircraft have been used as targets for years.

Now if they could destroy an incoming anti-ship missile with a laser fitted to a warship whilst underway, THAT would be something.

to be honest laser technology is even becoming accesable to the public so i am suprised the military hasnt been using it for a lot longer as a means of defence (using defence loosely as we will only use it for offence.)

just look on kipkays channel on youtube and he shos you how to make a lazer burner for under £30.

Because a missile is going exponentially faster, has a heat shield around it from going so fast, has anti-missile countermeasures, and probably already deployed its payload by the time the Americans can intercept it.

What's the Patriot's combat proven missile interception record again, something like 3%? No wonder why they need lasers

Did not Nikola Tesla have this capability decades ago? They called it the Death Ray. This is old technology. I guess we will have to wait 70 years or so to see wireless electricity or free energy like Tesla also figured out. A classic tale of suppressed technologies by the elite.

It has always amazed me how we usually think Einstein when the word Genius is mentioned but Nikola Tesla, in my opinion, blew Einstein away when it came to intelligence. He had amazing inventions, not just theories. Not to mention a lot of people don't know anything about him.

Tesla was nuts, pure and simple. He came up with some very useful stuff early, later in life he was given to bombarding his head with x-rays and worshipping pigeons.

I dont know...i didnt see any of his lasers or see his "death ray" shoot down any planes. Oh he theorized this on paper? Or did he actually build working lasers?
