for me it's not strictly a money issue, nor is it a fear of being unprepared.
my fear is my chosen safe spots being over run with fleeing people.
for instance, say pheonix has it's water supply disrupted. there is a very good chance that once all the water is gone the entire city will empty out.
where will they go, you ask?
into my woods, that's where.
millions of hungry, thirsty unprepared humans, invading americas forests.
what am i supposed to do with them, can't feed them all, who shall i help?
will i need to shoot anyone comes looking to take what i've stashed?
no matter how i look at it, i think this is gunna' be the main problem i'll have to deal with, more so than road blocks and fema camps.
how about you, what do you fear?

My only fear is not knowing whats coming. its like i can be prepared in every way then all the sudden i get a serious illness that puts me in bed for a few days and i become useless.

something little that you dont see coming ends up disrupting you're whole survival operation.

if you want to survive then you cant stay in one place mate. i hear the best things to do is always travel with a few trustworthy individuals that have experience in camping and hunting and medical things.

staying in one place will only make you value you it more, its better to have nothing to lose or fight for except you're life, that way you're much lighter.

i hear the best place to be is the anbar province in iraq.

good luck

The government will probably seize all your stored assets. Any water, food, gold you have will be required to be handed over to the government, where it can be redistributed to the public.

I live in an urban area but have my bugout stuff ready, currently sellin off stuff I dont want to carry.

I work for a major computer retailer and just had my hours cut to 32 a week. I never thought I would see it happen, so its sending me a signal.

I am just glad I am not in debt or own property, or have a family to worry about. I will live off the land. So if you see me in your forest, relax im just passin through...

if your in Phoenix... then you must be referring to Payson as excaping to the woods & such & being overrun by the fleeing masses from the valley.

Payson reminded me so much of a North Carolina foothills town,
it was kinda nostalgic... Flagstaff too was not a typical desert city

you couldn't mean the Tonto nat'l forest would you?
i'd go day hiking there on weekends...primitive nature right next door
& lots of city dwellers are completely oblivious, thank gawd
... lets see---? seven springs ? is that where i often went some 20 years ago

all right, passin' threw is ok, you can even come by for a meal, and exchange of news and possibly a barter session.
but otherwise, if you wanna' hang you better be loaded up with something good, or at least do something, can you hunt?

Have 3 crossbows and over 100 arrows, with the knowlege to make more. White meat or dark? I can skin. tan. and can build shelter with whatever is laying around.

Will that help?

you couldn't pay me enough to live in pheonix. i'm in the gila of n.m., otherwise if i'm in az. i'll most likely be heading for the kaibab/ north rim area.
most likely scenario, i'm headin for my buds on the rez. the navajo are far more prepared than folks give them credit for.
they know what's coming.

If TSHTF there wont be time for that, Im already set to lay low for 6 mos]working on getting that up over a year. Seeds, food bars, canned goods in an underground hidden shelter.

I fully plan to head west then south after the ordeal. I just may look you up.

I am just wondering how you all know where the "safe" places will be?

I read a lot of threads where members speak of going here or there and taking this or that, and I wonder what if they have none of that stuff available when "it" happens.

Do you all think there will be a announced time for TSHF?

And why wait for it?

Just go there now.

If it never happens in your lifetime then at least you are probably living in a cool place, far from the maddening crowd.

I personally have no intention of making preparations for anything.

I am going to take my lawn chair, and sit in the front yard and just observe.

The rest of you can live in anticipation and fear.

I am just going to live.

i love your logic.

safe for me just means i know the area, i know you will need to be on foot to get there. unless you come in from the air.
places i know like the back of my hand.

I know I will induce a flame-alanche over this but here goes...

I do not know the specifics of the situation of which you speak. However you might want to consider limited mobility within any given area to improve your odds of survival. Multiple outposts if you will within close distance.

As far as the hordes of other humans, they fall into two categories: useful and "Do Not Enter" signs. Unfortunately it is hard to determine if someone will be useful to you at a distance so perhaps have those people pre-determined. As far as the latter category, Vlad the Impaler had it down. Corpses, especially lots of them have a deterring effect on passers by.

It sounds cruel but the masses will be like locust on your resources. In addition, the sociopaths among them would just as soon kill you then to help you. Of course it's your call but you get one chance to be right or wrong. Animals defend their territory, sometimes lethally, do they not? Why? Because there is no learning curve.

Flame On!

Any water, food, gold you have

I keep seeing people talk about stocking up on gold, even people that know everything is about to crash. I still don't get what the hell GOLD will be useful for wtshtf. I mean, I build things, I repair things, I am NOT going to want gold to fix or build something for joe blow that doesn't know the difference between a screw and a nail, provided, that Joe is expecting me do do something for him - personally, I am the "help those that simply can't help themselves, teach them as we go " type, but if I am expected to do something, I expect barter for services, but not in bloody gold !!

Can anyone explain this to me? What the hell am I going to do with gold jewelry, coins, and whatnot, when there is no more economy?

i've stashed a bit, few coins but mostly scrap jewelry, truth be though, i don't trust gold.
i think most is kept off the market in order to artificially inflate the price,.
same concept as de beers does with diamonds.
any time the hording elite ptb want to they can flood the market and drop the price way down. did i say way down.

i agree, to a point. i'm not a corpse kinda' guy, but ya' never know.
the reason i mentioned a circle of friends explains a lot of what you said. we're all ready as we can be right now. combining our resources puts us in a good position.

even though a 'bugout' may mean nothing but a pack on my back there are areas one could hit and disapear. a few of my favs, the gila, the kaibab, the bob marshall, the frank church, the saw tooths, glacier/ waterton.
there's more, and i've been exploring these areas for 25 years.
you best be good if you wanna' track/find me.
yea, infra-red, poisoning the areas, there are many possible scenarios.
