Something pretty creepy has been happening to conservative women lately. There seems to be an insistent, increasingly excitable focus on the supposed hotness of Republican women in the public eye, like Sarah Palin, Michele Bachmann, Michelle Malkin, and Nikki Haley—not to mention veterans like Ann Coulter. The sexual references are pervasive: they come from left, right, and center, and range from gushing to highly offensive. Harper's* asked, “Is Sarah Palin Porn?” as others quizzed the former governor about whether she had breast implants. Right Wing News compiled a list of the hottest conservative women in new media. Playboy even ran an outrageous piece titled “Ten Conservative Women I’d Like to Hate F--k,” which read like a sick attempt to make rape cool. “We may despise everything these women represent,” wrote the author, “but goddammit they’re hot. Let the healing begin.” Moron.

On the one hand, I think the Republican establishment deliberately puts up "hot" women as candidates for office because they know many people vote with their ****s and they may rightly have a strategy there.

What all this hulabaloo about conservative women says to me is that it's not enough for a woman to be smart, knowledgeable and successful in her career. She must also look like a movie star and be a baby-toting "traditional" (read submissive) mother. Witness our primary case in point: Sarah Palin. It seems to me to be very difficult, though, to be submissive to men at the same time you are beating the pants off them at politics.

This "model" of perfection, which no human woman can achieve, I believe to be a deliberate backlash against women and their hard-won rights to participate in the public sphere. It is at its core deeply anti-woman. It's not much better than to expect every woman to be the Madonna, beautiful and desirable in body and mind who arouses the passions of men and is also perfect mother but is always a virgin.

I'm not likely to vote Republican, but I do wish to see both conservative and liberal women judged on their brains, ideas and accomplishments rather than on just their bodies.

Yeah, but it would be nice if some of them weren't so hard to look at either. (Hillary Clinton, Nanci Pelosi and that Supreem Court nominee come to mind)

You are right, that is exactly why they are doing it, because they don't actually have any ideas to fix the country, all they have been doing is being the party of NO and bitching and complaining like a bitter housewife.

It's a ploy, nothing more, they can't win on the issues because they have no freaking clue what to do, so they prance out prepared bimbos for the crowd to yank off to.

These Republican women speak to the absolute lowest common denominator of American society, yet you don't see why they aren't respected for their brains eh?

We do something similar all the time in the news media business. The cute girl and the respectable looking guy are the anchors, it boosts the ratings. BBC, CNN, FNC, we all do it, and I don't really see too much wrong with it, the people doing the stories and reporting are where the true ethics and integrity come to play for the quality of the newscast, while the anchors read from a teleprompter and are cool in times of emergency.

Interestingly, if these new, "hot" as they put it, Republican women are just spokespeople for the party's overarching message and would vote along party lines every time, I'd say those jerks stole our idea!

The really sad thing here is that it might work for them. Does anyone really think Sarah Palin would have the following she does if she didn't look like the girl-next-door? It might not be that easy though, Palin for all of her "folksy charm" got absolutely destroyed in her debate with Vice-President Biden, and the polls showed that. A pretty face can get you in the door, but thankfully I think there are enough informed American voters to still make the candidate have to seal the deal.

In the UK we don't really have the problem of the hot candidates, the last psychotic conservative nutter we let come to power was Prime Minister Thatcher, and she had a look about her that probably made Prince Charles feel a little bit better about himself every time he looked in the mirror.

What a waste of time thread.

Who cares if they even have women - or if they chainsaw random people to death on stage for fun?

Politics is a complete lie - why debate anything about it - excepting for the uselessness of its existence, and the total waste of energy it entails?

Maybe because men want the traditional woman? Maybe we dont want feminist type woman. 'burn your bra' type bullcrap. It might surprise you but a majority of men hate american women. They tend to get wive from out of the USA.

WHY? because american women are trying to be men. Because men like traditional gender roles. im not talking about 'sexist' roles either.

To put it simply....american woman have grown balls. and we are men...and we dont like balls.

Anyone think perhaps this is simply an extension of Hollywood "values"
?
Sound bites and eye candy. Give the viewer what they want, right?
We asked for it and now we are getting it. Divide and conquer, same as it ever was.

" ...they know many people vote with their ****s ..."

" ... She must also look like a movie star ..."

If people vote that way , it certainly doesn't show in Washington . Show me female politicians that look like movie-stars .

I don't know where you are trying to go with this but , I can't see any credibility in these statements .

Besides , just because a woman is 'hot' does not automatically exclude her from having a brain .

In your attempt to stereotype what men expect from women , you forgot to include staying home , barefoot in the kitchen , staying away from politics to start with .

Therefore , your assertions are self-destructive .

I would rather look at Palin anyday , before having to look at Clinton , Pelosi , Feinstein , Boxer , etc .

She can't be any worse than any of those . If she fails , at least she will look good while doing it .

While you are stereotyping the male , remember , you are doing the same thing to the female by equating 'nice-looking' , 'hot' , and 'good body' with bimbo and no brain ., which is what you essentially did in the OP .

As for the 'showcasing' of female candidates , rest assured that a female POTUS is coming . The times they are a-changin .

Displaying the nicer-looking females in the limelight is no different than any other 'business' , it is a marketing strategy .

Being 'hot' does not make you dumb or incapable of doing the same job that the ogress does .

LOL, its always funny when political parties try and dabble with age old advertising angles such as Sex Sells and fail so badly. They do it here too, try and "sex up" the various parties with supposedly hot women, who in reality are howling. Though to be fair there target democraphic is probably late middle aged to elderly who are sad enough to be beguiled by that.

Anne Coulter LOL

They should take a leaf out of Silvio Berlusconi's book who is notorious for nailin young hot models and appointing them positions in the EU parliment LOL. Thats how its done.

So let me get this straight.

Conservatives put up candidates that are attractive, instead of hideous (Barbara Bush) and then get all up and arms when the tabloids or newspapers run stories about how attractive they are?

Or get upset that playboy is running a story about doing sexual things to do them? I mean come on, it's playboy.

Perhaps if conservatives want to stop those "evil" liberals from doing such actions, they should just keep putting up ugly women.

The pot calling the kettle black is what's going on here.

I'd ask what's wrong with being a woman, who looks good, and have Conservative principles?

Then I read this thread, and some of the pathetic responses.. and alas, I see why their looks are discussed more than their beliefs.. the pathetic imbeciles that see and respond to looks first over belief. Pretty sad a good looking female can't speak her mind without everyone carrying on about tits and ass.

As I say, just look at the responses on this thread -- pathetic.

I think you missed the point here.
It seems like the OP is a democrat and the republicans have good looking female candidates so there is a problem with that.

It's the democrat that seems to be miffed about it.

The day winning an election became more about being black, hispanic, attractive, gay or living with a lazy eye rather than actual beliefs and positions is the day we all should have stopped voting.

Unfortunately it seems to be raising voter turnout. Dumbasses.

There just trying to ''sex-up'' politics.

By having a pretty cover, people... Mainly us men, will think with something else and buy the book because of the 'pretty' cover... Not the actual content.

Sex sells at the end of the day. Just look at the music industry for an example.

Ohh well in that case, the DEMS can just shut their mouths, why is that a problem?

I don't understand the political atmosphere anymore, of all the things to complain about, really?

Perhaps the DEMS need to stop putting up liers and cheaters and put up some hot women of their own if they want to win over that peticular line of constituents.

Not that it helped Sarah Palin, poor girl is dumb as a lamp post.

Could it be that the Gay Old Party is going after the "Liberal" gay female vote?
Obama's bend overs to Netanyahu and the oil companies and Goldman Sachs will drive men to vote Republican far more effectivly than an Anne Coulter ever could.
