I cant see Iran going on the offensive, with so little troops.

i know, neither reason makes sense, you dont send 4,000 to guard one point on a border or to attack a large force, could they be watching/scouting for a larger nearby force or maybe this isnt even true?

Maybe Iran is just taking precautions of in case something brakes up in Iraq after the power is change, no refugees will go over the border of Iraq and Iran.

I would agree with this theory, we've seen other countries do it to prevent refugees entering.

Isn't it heartwarming, the way all of these mideast countries help each other out, in terms of accepting and feeding the refugees from other countries? Muslim brotherhood, and all that. It brings a tear to my one good eye.

Why would there be massive amounts of refugees from Iraq anyway?

If Iraq slipped civil war, the livng conditions would get worse, those who dont fight leave, although Iran wouldnt be the likely place to go given past history. It could be a scout force as suggested.

One other point, maybe Iran is telling the truth and their not massing troops.

Understanding that Chalabi was with Iran all along, i still don't believe that the US was "fooled".
With people like Rumsfeld, Wolfowitz, Cheney, etc., the last thing I believe is their feigned ignorance.
Not that I could say what's really going w/ Iran.
But don't they pretty much have Russia behind them ?
Is this , then, just the latest theater in the updated cold war, with the US and Russia each working to secure their stake in middle east oil ? Iran putting on a show at the border, knowing that Russia would be ready to back them up , esp. in light of the recent nuclear talk ?
Sorry for all the questions !
Sets the stage for a real WW3 ( or 4 ) scenario. Good thing the draft bill is ready to be signed.....

What other reason will Iran have to have troops on his border either to invade Iraq after US leave or to protect his border from refugees in case of a civil unrest.

Now Iran will not invade Iraq why? very simple US will not allow that, but US will stand for a civil unrest in Iraq because is part of the nation building believe it or not.

4,000 isnt enough to do something like that though..

You are right they are not enough for guarding the border or invacion but who knows maybe they are there to come and help the radical unrest in favor of anti american sentiments.

Perhaps this is what the 4 Battalion's are or consist of or are made up of:
Iran recruiting "Army of Martyrs"

Typically, within the US Army structure, 4 battalions would equate to roughly 1500-1800+/- men. I would imagine, having not seen or found anything concrete, that 4 Iranian battalions would be 1000-1300+/- men, since it is known that Iranian military make-up is somewhat and typically understrength, in regards to equipment and numbers.

Well after reading the following:

www.stevequayle.com...
&
washingtontimes.com...

I started to think. Iran sooner or later is probably going to persue some sort of Military action in Iraq. Now if the first article is true it is obvious we are preparing for a such event. I heard from a friend that indymedia.org is jus a silly paranoid news source but you never know. I read somewhere that N Korea and Iran are up to something silly? I could see the Mid East and Asia becoming the new battleground. If we got mixed up with Iran China may see it as prime time to capitalize on Taiwan. We could prevent that to some degree but our fingers would already be in too many pies. Any one have any other thoughts on this?

It is 1007 men-see link-

www.1914-1918.net...

As to why they are moving troops to the border I have a few suggestion as to why.

How about bush threating Iran that we will not tolerate their nuclear program.

[urlwww.whitehouse.gov...[/url]

If Isreal follows through on its threat to distroy Irans nuclear reactor....

I don't know much about world war3
But a friend of mine told me all about world war 4
It will be epic battles fought with sticks and stones.

Since it appears that there aren't really enough troops to either invade or protect maybe it is just a distraction. Maybe they are helping some close allies to prepare somewhere else in the world and this is just a little slight of hand to keep the US (and our troops) looking in their direction while maybe their buddies pull a fast one somewhere else. Hmmm - who are their allies......our enemies.

Or an even scarrier thought - maybe this is a bunch of bull and it is our government setting the stage to invade Iran.

How about an optimistic view........

Maybe the Iranian's are massing at the border to help the coalition in the war on terror.....

Maybe they are going to make sure no more radical shiites cross the border to cause havoc with the fledgling Iraqi gov't.......

Maybe they figure by doing this, it will minimize the UN pressure on their nuclear "power" program........

Hmmmmm..........What am I crazy?!!!!!!!

deeeeep breath, deeeeeep breath, 4get that I need a Bud Light.......

We can spend days debating what in the world is Iran up to but we just have to wait and see.

For those of you that don't know people are dying in Iraq. Should Iran help the coalition forces, the terrorists in Iraq have the capabilities of firing long range missiles into Iran.

The build up of troops along the border are for good measures. The US could send spies into Iran or Muslim extremists from Iraq could enter into Iran and take refuge.

It's already been pointed out that when the US leaves Iraq, civil war will break out between sunni and shiite majorities.

There has also been rising speculation that the UN are asking Bush to return Sadaam Hussein back to Iraq.
I recently saw a video clip of Bush angrily protesting stating that Sadaam Hussein must remain in jail for the rest of his life.

For those of you that are depending on World War 3, because you want to see more blood on the worlds stage. I pity you. Oh yeah this World War 3 is pure BS. Let me repeat that, it deserves to be said again. Oh yeah this World War 3 is pure BS. Even if the leaders wage war, the people won't follow.

Should Bush get re-elected and hold office for another 4 years. Hitler's prediction about the East waging war with the west will come true. The chances that he will wage war on South Korea or Iran, with or without UN approval, are pretty high. We've seen Bush do it with Iraq. Truth is he's unstable. (reminds me of Bowling for Colombine's cartoon clip relating the KKK with the gun makers)
**Well that's just more dead Americans that Americans voted for, should worst come to worst.

On a postive note, should any of the countries go to war, there won't be use for any WMDs. The world is different than it was 20-30 years ago, or the time when the US dropped the atom bomb on Hiroshima. Hiroshima had dire consequences on the US and the scientists that help make the atom bomb.

Yeah, but I don't believe that Chalabi tricked the US - I think the Neocon types used him and his information as an excuse to move into Iraq. I think they knew all along exactly what the situation was in Iraq.
Since at least Reagan we've been playing Iran / Iraq against each other, and many of the key players from the Reagan era are key players now.
I wonder if it's really just about the oil, which IS essential if the USA is to continue to rule the world. Or are there really madmen afoot who simply WANT WW3 ?

4 battalions in one area isnt enough for either of those reasons and it makes no sense to me.

Pray tell me how is it that the US is ruling the world?..... Are we ruling in Spain? Russia? China? Europe?.........

This is just amazing how people have been fed so much crap these days.....
I have been having a conversation in u2u with another ATS member, which I won't name, but this member is so brainwashed that they think Castro is a good man and that no attrocities are happening in Cuba simply because some Canadian friends of this member, who seem to be either communists or socialists, are saying this......

It is true that the American people are being brainwashed but its not from the source they believe is coming from. Its from people like Oliver Stone, Michael Moore and other idiots trying to sell their own agendas....or the agenda of whoever pays them.....
