Because it's not cold fusion he is doing?

Perhaps a mishearing of 30,000 volts?

Also, fusion happens routinely when a lightning strikes... Can't write to NYT about every lightning on Earth, can you?

The scary part is that some of the local residents don't know the difference between fission and fusion and think what he is doing is highly dangerous.
Ummm, I know the difference between fission and fusion and I'm not sure either one is completely safe, especially at the scale of a commercial reactor.

If you're just running small experiments it's the scale of the experiment that makes it safe, not the type of technology. 10mA isn't going to do much harm, even at 30,000V.

I think he was using more than 10mA and his experiment wasn't completely safe!
