Thousands of acres of the Sonoran Desert closed to Americans

The U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service has closed large portion of Southern Arizona in and around the Buenos Aires National Wildlife Refuge and all along the southern side of I-8 between Casa Grande and Gila Bend. This is 80 miles north of the Mexican border and its now off limits to American citizens!!

A reliable informant known to us as “Duck Hunter” has told the U.S. Border Fire Report that the Mexican Drug cartels now control large areas of Southern Arizona. According to the Pinal County Sheriff large areas in Southern Arizona are very dangerous and is off limits to U.S. citizens. Where is Congress and DHS in this new Mexican-American war that we seem to be losing?

According to the U.S. Fish & Wildlife this area is about 3500 acres in size. Our concern for public safety is paramount. The situation in this zone has reached a point where continued public use of the area is not prudent. The Buenos Aires National Wildlife Refuge has been adversely affected by border-related activities. The international border with Mexico has also become increasingly violent.

Assaults on law enforcement officers, U.S. Citizens and violence against migrants have escalated in recent times. Violence on the Refuge associated with smugglers and border bandits has been well documented.

Many of these activities are concentrated at the border and inland for 80 miles.

Map of Area in Question

It was on fox news some friends have told me but we cannot find the video of it.

Can anyone on ATS shed some light on this?

Edit to add: Smuggling violence prompts stronger warning to visitors at national monument south of Phoenix

The only way to fix this problem is with superior firepower. The Mexican government and their police are out gunned and out manned.
It is time for the U.S.military to step in and take our country back.
This is getting ridiculous when we can't even be safe inside our own borders.WFT?

Casa Grande is only like 30 minutes from Phoenix. It wouldn't surprise me one bit if we woke up one morning and the druglords had taken control of the state capitol building and declared one of their guys El Presidente de Arizona!!!

This makes me sick because I know, I KNOW! Obama will do nothing!!!

[edited to fix typos]. Sorry about the rant but this ticks me off so badly!

They have been going "there" they constantly cross the border and kidnap people, they have outright shoot outs on the highways all over Phoenix! t is insane what is going on over there. Of course it isn't all over the MSM because that would be speaking badly of illegals and we wouldn't want to do that would we? Seems like the muslims and illegals are the ones that they want to protect from us terrible American citizens.

Outgunned?

I doubt it.

OutMANNED?

Undoubtedly.

Why aren't all those fancy SWAT teams pulling all-nighters out there?

Too busy shooting dogs while serving warrants?

The cops need to quit whining and go do their jobs.

Well I guess if anyone knows anyone in the AZ militia and Can house a fireteam .... We can go secure it. We have several former spec-ops guys that like to play. They don't play fair or nice. They are "Old Guard".

Why you got to talk all that trash? This isn't just a Mexican thing.

US is part of the reason for the violence as well.

Who do you think is the number one supporter of what Mexico is doing?

Who do you think the mastermind behind the Merida Initiative is?

Who do you think want the drug cartels extradited?

Maybe the next time you complain about the violence in Mexico and how you would like to go in and kick their ass, maybe you ought to consider what role our government is playing.

For all you know that route could be a CIA route.

BTW, this area has been off limit since 2006. Where were you then?

YES out gunned AND out manned!

Drug cartels outmatch, outgun Mexico's police

By Chris Hawley, USA TODAY

The attacks have driven the death toll of police and soldiers to record levels this year and fueled fears that government forces, often outgunned by the cartels, are now being out-strategized as well.

"These are war-fighting tactics they're using," says Javier Cruz Angulo, an expert on crime at the Center for Economic Investigation and Education, agraduate school in Mexico City. "It's gone way beyond the normal strategies of organized crime."

On Monday, gunmen sealed off a highway with buses that they set ablaze, boxing in a convoy of federal police trucks in Michoacán. They launched a gunbattle from high ground on both sides of the highway, killing 12 of the officers. Then they whisked away their own dead and wounded.

A separate attack in the northern city of Chihuahua killed three officers. And on Sunday, gunmen camouflaged with foliage attacked an army patrol near Tepalcatepec, the Mexican Defense Department said. The clash left three gunmen dead, one arrested and two soldiers wounded.

The ambushes, and an apparently unrelated clash between prison drug gangs that killed 29, contributed to a record 95 drug-trade-related deaths on Monday — the most since President Felipe Calderón launched a crackdown in December 2006.

On Tuesday, a shootout with police in the tourist town of Taxco killed 14 alleged cartel members.

In all, 324 police officers and soldiers have been killed so far in 2010, compared with 511 in all of 2009, according to the Reforma newspaper.

Don't get mad at me- I know this isn't the fault of you people having to live there-

Someone I know wanted me to move with them to AZ- and after hearing about all this- I said NO. I want a nice, quiet, peaceful life, and having to be on guard, have locks and alarms and guns and dogs and a barb wire fence does not peaceful make. Not to mention- Me being white and my g/f (who thought it would be a good idea to move there) being black, I can just *imagine* the possibilities.... None of them good.

Now, if I am feeling this way, how much more do others (businesses, individuals, ect) are not wanting to move to your state for this reason? it's like the federal govt is bound and determined to starve your state and turn it into a wasteland. I'd love to know why. I am sure you do as well- and now, as you can see- there's more far reaching implications than just the fact the fed is doing next to nothing about this. As for the local govt- I dunno. From what I can see- they are being dragged under while they fight like mad.

Looks like the people are gonna have to step up and grab their guns...

Looks like a perfect place for a prison for violent offenders. In fact, all along the border, that is where our federal prisons could be located. A lot of guards, barbed wire and German Shepherds.
And M-16's.
