Google New Target of Turkey

Turkey's web users again bear the brunt of heavy-handed censorship as the Telecommunications Commication Presidency indefinitely shuts off access to several Google services, including 'Google Docs.' The move follows the banning of the popular video-sharing website YouTube for alleged insults against Turkish Republic founder Mustafa Kemal Atatürk

Many of Google's services are rendered inoperable in Turkey apparently because of "insults". It will be interesting to watch the effects of this shutdown.

Actually, its kind of embarrassing but I had no idea whatsoever of Turkey acting oppressive in such a manner.

Turkish Government want Google to pay it's taxes like any other company .

The bill is in excess of 30 M Turkish Lira .

Google should pay it's taxes and can then offer it's services , again .

Not only that, but how much commerce is tied up through the use of Google and their services? This could likely have some serious economic effects in the country (and out).

I'm afraid its just a prime example of the way in which Turkey is slowly leaning towards the Islamic world (ties with Syria and Iran) and thus is becoming more radical.
