I think the Moving Picture HAS to be considered as one of the greatest! It spawned the media as we know and has created the most effective form of communication ever. We had always relied on the public theater for expressing art and such but that could only be done on a smal local scale. Moving pictures brings art, news, info, joy, and pain to vurtually every human on the planet.

I'd have to say soap and disinfectants, before disease and germs ran wild until one person(can't remember name) found out about soaps through glicerides. Any medical treatments like surgery were done without todays common scrubbing before surgery.

Soaps helped stop the rampant spread of disease and changed our way of life.

No, beer is quite possibly the WORST invention ever. Just watch Family Guy, and you'll know what I mean.

I have a two-fold answer. leather working and weaving. Both have been with us since before speech, are in use now, and will continue to be in use for the forseeable future. Were would the world be today without clothing? I couldnt say but i will make a bet it wouldn't be in Antarctica.

I was going to say the toilet but I guess that can fall under plumbing. Perhaps the alcoholic beverage.

Ah... good one. Electricity. Kinda missed that one :-). Gotta keep the beer cold somehow. Can't forget broadband. There are alot of inventions we could have done without but electricity isn't one of them. Imagine life without it. Dang. I hate it when my power goes out for 15 minutes.

well, electricity was more of a discovery than an invention. Perhaps the first invention to generate electricity, or harness it.

Thats easy, I have given this alot of thought as well.

The alphabet, without it you would have nothing.

Said it before, say it again. Wire. Plain and simple wire.

Without it, how could you channel electricity? Without wire, how will your computer work? The world runs on wire, and yet no one gives it a second thought.

The greatest invention ever though would have to be......porn.(sorry to be crude) It's a great bonding experience with buddies to watch some together

Never thought it would be enjoyable in the company of other buddies.
WOW, where did it came from.

The greatest invention has to be the printing press. Yes, I watched A&E 100 most influential people a few days before new years 2003, and yes Gutenberg was number 1 for the printing press.

I think the best invention was Real Doll Kaori from realdolls.com

I would say the arrowhead (the weapon) would be ranked up there for the past. It's helped form protection in a community, helped conquer villages, force others to evolve greater weapons and defenses...

The idea of currency woulld be up there too.

My favorite is MaskedAvatar's response in the previous thread:

"I think Man's greatest creation, that enables him to control and oppress Man, is God."

Billions of people have been conquered in the name of God.
