I have a hypothesis.

If you have a certain Myers Briggs personality type, then it will match up with a certain music.

If you would like to, you can participate in this little experiment. This will end sometime on May 21st, 2010. I will tally up all of the answers, and see what the common results are.

Form for entering your results:

Personality Type: (ex. ENTP)
Favorite Music Genre: (ex. rock)

Don't be to specific with the genre. This won't be very accurate, due to personality types being different for each website. There may not even be a match. Keep the music type limited to your two favorites.

If you would like to participate, take the test here and fill out the form.

Take the personality test linked above and fill out the form stating what music you prefer, and what your results are.

Personality Type: INFP
Favourite Music Genre: Soul/Jazz/Blues

(Actually 3 completely different genres of music but hey, I could never pick one man and my tastes are so varied that there's probably not a category of music I don't like)

Myers Briggs personality type?

I hate things like that, we don't need to label people or put them in boxes.

No offense but finding things like this important is ignorance in my opinion, it's people that keep looking for our differences that keep us divided.

People are divided well enough without things like this.

Hey There

I'll take part.

ENFJ

alternative rock/rock

Can't wait to see the results of your study.

I actually grade PI's for my company here and there. I just graph out the answers. The owner of my company knows how to read the graphs. I just prep everything for him. Predictive index have you heard of it?

Maybe the OP is doing it for a project or some kind of school or college work?

it's only a bit of fun I'm sure.
I don't think much of these things and hate labels myself, But it's not hurting anyone, just a bit of an experiment.

Whatever floats the OPs boat man.

No project or anything, just curiosity.

That just means you don't like it all.

Anyway, INFP.

Two favourite genres: Metal, Electronic

I also think that cutting out subgenres is going to make this a little weird. I mean, how many people are gonna just straight up say either Metal, Electronic, Jazz or Classical? I don't think this is really gonna work out too well. Especially if someone that likes noise rock will just have their answer classified as just "rock", and a fan of drone doom metal will still have his or her choice classified as "metal". I don't think you'll get desired results.

I have to agree with the guy a few posts up from me about individuals being categorised in a machine like fashion. Labels and archetypes in a society arent for the benefit of the citizen

I'll participate:

INTJ
Rock and Classical

I agree with the difficulties some are going to have defining their favorite music genre. Maybe you should give a list of ten or so genres you want people to categorize themselves by.

I, too, am interested in seeing the outcome of this.

(And to the people who are taking the "don't categorize me" road... Everything can be categorized and just because you feel unique doesn't mean that you don't fit into certain groups when studied. You don't have to participate, so it shouldn't matter to you. Just my observation.)
