NEW YORK, May 4 (Xinhua) -- The 5,113 nuclear weapons the United States declared in its arsenal are enough to destroy the globe several times over, Iran's President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said Tuesday.

"The United States has declared that it has over 5,000 warheads now ... now imagine that with 5,000 bombs, you can destroy the globe several times over," he told reporters during a 90-minute news conference in the Millennium Hotel near the UN headquarters in New York.

The Iranian president was responding to a U.S. announcement Monday that it has 5,113 nuclear warheads in its stockpile plus "several thousand" more retired warheads, an unprecedented disclosure of the superpower's secret arsenal.

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad is apparently a complete imbecile!

In the 60s the Us had some 25,000 Nucs but it has reduced that number down to 5000 by world accords. A remarkable achievement!

There is more than one nation with enough nukes to destroy world several times over. And not all of them of allies of the West either.

China, the second largest military power in the world, sides with Iran and posts on its premier news source about the US being able to destroy the world several times over?

What that says is that apparently the Chinese Central Power Committee sides with the Iranians and not the US or the West!

The reason why he is picking on America has every little thing to do with American behavior.. You can't have over 5000 nukes and threaten to bomb other nations if they pursue even peaceful nuclear technology..

So yes, first get rid of your own nukes, then talk about others, Iran has non, so they have every right to say what ever the F they want about the US and their doomsday force..

And who the ? knows why the US had that many nucs back then and then again, who cares? We now have 5000 and the US admitted it.

Out of all the countries mentioned here only Russia or the USA has the capacity to destroy the world. The other countries simply don't have enough nukes.

I also noticed on the wikipedia site it mentioned Israel only had 80 warheads. That is incorrect I've seen it quoted as high as 400, which is larger than the stockpiles of most of those other countries.

Because of the number of nukes and the Samson option Israel might also be able to destroy the world.

Mate no one let the cat out of the bag re numbers, they've been known at the various levels all through the cold war, China only has a few hundred just a few more than Israel, but the Chinese build 'em big, Russia and the US are trying to get their totals down to about 1500 each.

Ahmadinajad is neither a bazaar or an imbecile, he's in fact doing an incredibly tough job running Iran whilst he and his country are being put under immense pressure by the Empire.

It's sickening to watch the US throw its weight around trying to save it self economically at the cost of untold millions of casualties who's only crime was that the US thought they could do a quick asset grab, thanks to the resistance the US may not even make a profit off the grab and still go bankrupt.

They needed to do the grab because for the last two decades of the cold war they secretly fuc*ed their own economy while they bankrupt the USSR, they were only held afloat by forcing other countries to sell their own oil in US $ creating the magic petrodollar.

In revenge for US treachery over Kuwait Iraq broke the US dollar hegemony and are still paying the price on a daily basis.

i'm sure other members can search for more precise information, but we've all known it a long time ago -- we have enough nukes to wipe out humanity off the face of this planet.

I think this non-proliferation is a joke. 1500 Nukes per Nuclear state is still plenty enough to wipe us off the face of the Earth. And, in that, Achmadinejad is absolutely correct, so I miss the part where he's an imbecile? Perhaps for him pointing out the glaringly obvious?

The real story of his speech was that the truly imbecilic representatives of our countries invite this world leader to a conference and stand up and walk out during his address. Politics is more and more childish every time I look at it.

Israel are a non-signatory to the non-proliferation treaty, and they certainly have nukes, but I bet you won't see Netanyahu having his talks disrupted by delegates from Britain, France, USA< Canada - so why Achmedinejad?

His public shunning, as happened in the EU address he gave last year, was a ploy to reinforce the hatred our nations have for his nation. Just another ramp up to the inevitable conflict with Iran that they've been trying desperately to push on with.

The 'western' leaders behaviour here is despicable and transparently sinister. The only thing people can really pin on Achmedinejad is on the treatment of his countrymen (even though Iran is one of the much more tolerant Islamic states, with many occupying Jews living there also), and his 12th Immam ideology - should we hold the same contempt then for Christian and Jewish world leaders if they beleive in Armageddon, Revelations and the Rapture?

He IS democratically elected. The IAEA were informed 6 months before necessary about Natanz enrichment facility construction and the West HATE that he's doing everything by the book. So they walk out like spoiled children. Pathetic.

I can see Iran's Angle in all this. The US is to day the nation which threatens all nations that opposes it in its quest to expand.

The US even has a first strike plan which includes the use of a nuclear device, if they see fit to use one. And won't hesitate to use one.

Why shouldn't Iran have the right to have the same ability?

Lately history has show that a nation which has nuclear weapons are a lot safer from being attacked by the US or any other nation. The US even uses the same argument against Russia.

So far the US have only attacks nations which can't even defend them selves, because they don't posses the technology to do so. If Iran gets a nuclear weapon they are pretty much safe from allegations from Israel and the US.

their millitary powers might be the only thing left that they can hold on to for the moment, as others in a few short years, leap ahead in technology and other industrial mights becoming the super leaders for these then.
