What would happen if you injected stem cells into a chimp's brain that differentiated into neurons. A 30% increase of neurons to prefrontal lobe of a chimp. Would it be smarter like a human, have no noticeable effect or just make a smarter chimp. Hopefully the animal doesn't die from the brain pan being too small.

Would the neurons be damaged beforehand, because that makes a difference to regrow damaged tissue. However without an outside influence on the stem cells they really wouldnt accomplish much

Wow, great post.. I never even thought of the possibility of turning chimps into more intelligent creatures. Perhaps you're on to something.. With the right gene therapy, or maybe even just a simple injection of stem cells, "they" (scientists working for god knows what corporation) can turn chimps into sentient beings on the same level as humans.

Now that would be creepy.. Get ready to meet the next intelligent life forms to set foot on earth

With the right gene therapy, could we turn anything into a sentient being?

Imagine birds flying around, tweeting poetry. Or whales swimming in the ocean, singing songs about how lonely they are

It's just a matter of time, I tells ya!... No seriously, it's just a matter of time.

Maybe it's about time we make some room for the next intelligent life to rule the planet.

See how they do it without all the resources we used.
Not sure how we can. But.

There are already unrefusable documentaries which are based on facts only.

The planet of the apes series is a perfect well documented study.
the scientist filmed everything and were able to communicate with the chimps that they were expected to say some lines and stand some poses.

Of course without pressure, the chimps were happy to comply. They perfectly understood it was for the education of us humans in the best interest if we were entertained while we were learning at the same time.

Nevertheless a very disturbing idea.

Observations and evidence tells us there are sentient beings all around.
Even those who were considdered beastly dumb ass natural animals.
edit.
I hope we will not be able to create anything sentient. After all they would be created in our own image because it's the only example we know.

Well... we are all living the result of what happens. ( If you believe the biblical creation story.

Without a doubt, the next sentient creature on Earth will have a computer brain, not an organic one. We are making great strides in artificial intelligence; In 2007, scientists ran a cortical simulator that was as complex as half a mouse brain ( news.bbc.co.uk... ). It's probably a matter of 50 years or less before we have a computer with human or greater intelligence.

Also very disturbing.

I think the movie terminator says it all.

Eventualy we they will become to smart and decide we are a problem.

The only difference in in this scenario our creator had means to do something about it and we do not. We will get terminated.
