Organisers of a march to promote equal opportunity public toplessness have been angered by the number of men taking photos of the women.

About two dozen women drew a crowd of onlookers over the weekend when they shed their shirts and marched downtown in Maine's largest city.

Organiser Ty MacDowell said the point of the march in Portland was that a topless woman out in public should not attract any more attention than a man who walks around without a shirt.

That is just crazy. Of couse it will attract more attention! It's not every day you see 48 boobs bouncing down the street.
No intention to offend, but breasts are like something men pay too see!
The day men stop recognising a women's anatomy as attractive is the day the human race is in trouble!
The dudes with the cameras will keep those mammary's for ever!

Haha, what did they expect? Women want to be treated equal but demand to be treated like a woman when it serves them better...see it illogic behind it? They want you to treat them like a lady and buy them dinner and what do you get...? Well I say you get sex first and then dinner...you aint getting dinner until we get sex. You want to be treated equally? How bout you buy me a car when we get married.

Women are treated equally nowadays, there are no limiations on modern society with women. Shut up and stop complaining. You dont see men complaining about things. Men and women are two different beings but we are all treated equally with respect to civil rights labor laws (heck women have maternity leave).

Heh, walk down the street half naked and get upset that people will take photos. LOL. Let's see. Toplessness is legal in Maine. Taking photos in public is legal, too. What's the problem? If I walked down the street without any pants on, no doubt some people would take photos, just to post on the internet and make fun of my, er, shortcomings. LOL.

Do you think that if it was a majority of women taking the photos, then the marchers would be happy?

They want to make it back like it was, boobs with no boner.

Sadly, when you cover something up for long enough, everyone will get excited when they get the chance to see it.

As Forrest Gump's Mother used to always say: "Stupid is as stupid does." And women wonder why men think they are so stupid. I have known plenty of very intelligent women who gave me quite the challenge intellectually, and not one of them ever, (to my knowledge), stripped bare from the top up in public and then expected men to act as if this wasn't something worth watching and photographing. I suspect if any intellectual women had done so, that men would gather, drool and photograph would be expected. As complicated as women can be with all those raging hormones they don't even understand let alone us, a women angry because a man will stare at her bare breasts in public or photograph them given the opportunity is just plain stupid. As complicated as women can be, men are not, and easy to figure out and breasts figure into that quite significantly.

Wait... let me make sure I understand this...

Some women got the idea to protest men taking photographs of topless women by marching down a PUBLIC street TOPLESS. Is that right?

It's a cultural thing. Aboriginal tribes that were normally topless before being discovered by the west probably didn't think seeing boobs was any big deal since they saw them all the time everywhere.

Anyway the protest may have a shred of logic but the implementation lacks logic and it's even more illogical to complain about picture taking. Why? The protest won't change the culture, it draws attention to it.

It's not easy to change a culture but protesting topless probably isn't the best way to do it.

The entire women's lib movement was financed by not for profit trusts set up by the most wealthy of the elite families (the names are the usual suspects).

Supposedly the point was to create an environment ripe for takeover by the "godless communists".

Dignity and morality are in the eyes of the beholder. Social conditioning. All societies set different parameters, in the middle east I was fully covered, and still called a whore.....

Women have been told for eons how to look, dress and behave ....

If a woman wants to wear a short skirt, she can, its a personal issue if you see it as "taunting" you personally as opposed to she is just comfortable, it maybe cooling in the heat, or she has great legs and doesn't care who sees them....then i hope you can process why you feel that, and just let her be.


Its a little like saying if you wear a short skirt and get raped, you asked for it, further compounding the victim, as opposed to simply laying blame on the perpetrator who wanted to exert power on someone and has their own moral issues they should be dealing with.

Calling someone a whore for dressing not as you wish to see according to ones social coding, is actually a moral issue that I see needs addressing

The issue of the OP male behaviour isnt really my concern, more so the opinion from my old friend DG that women "ask for it" and are whores if they dont enslave themselves to a certain social code.

Men will be men, but, they need to think about what is nature and what is nurtured in their behaviour

Do you think the women in this situation were just trying to cool off and not draw attention to themselves? Do you think they were justified to walk around topless and then get angry at people for looking? What was their motivation for being topless?

Oh God, there was a whole thread done on this issue where all that stuff was discussed. Rape is never the fault of the victim, but women that dress in provocative clothing are only increasing their chances of being raped. Take a deep breath and read it again.

It's not really about me wanting others to dress in a certain way or act how I see fit. It is more about taking personal responsibility and acknowledging that the way you dress can affect others around you.

I agree. But this has nothing to do with Gender Roles. We are talking about people that dress in ways that draw attention to them, and then getting angry that the attention won't leave.
