Well I guess that I for one have gotten a bit lazy and followed the "patriots" bait.

The "Patriots" are simply those who want to dress up their version of the truth in the US flag. In some ways the founding fathers are far from modern america because people are taking issue with now. So what does the real America look like? I honestly don't know and I don't know if anyone does. America is youg but has given the world a lot.

Thanks for pointing that out, we'd have never guessed it's stupid to generlize without you two. We've now been repaired.

But may I say in response, all that may be true but your nation still holds the highest amount of arrogance the planet contains under one flag. One flag which is so often raised in a way in which spoils the grand old interwebs.

It's unfortunate, but true.

Do look at Britain we have our share of idiots also. We brits can out do Any American when it comes to arrogance and yes we have been doing it longer than those kids from across the pond.

Ha! Slayer a troll?? Not even close there my friend. You'd know that if you've ever read any of his threads or posts. Just because you don't like how someone may think or their take on things does not make them a troll.

An overwhelming amount of arrogance from citizens of the US that spoil the nations name in the eyes of many.

One has to be careful calling others arrogant, while looking arrogant themselves,

Tricky.

Slayer isn't a troll in any sense of the word, now you on the other hand,

Seriously isn't this against TOS?

Some people are truelly a lost cause, particularly when the sidetrack the whole bloody point of the post. Unfortunately, I an't say what I really think.

But, look forward to eeing more of your input.

Slayer a troll?

Big talk by someone with 5 threads started and less than 100 total posts as compared to Slayer's 324 threads started and 10,000 posts. Quite likely that Slayer has already contributed more to this board than you ever will.

Suggest, as a noob, you just sit back and observe for awhile how to make constructive posts before you start name calling. In fact, why any name calling at all? BTW, most of us consider name calling the surest sign that the person doing it has lost their argument and/or has nothing left to contribute.

Sorry all for the aside, but too many people are now playing the troll card (like the race card), and it's even worse when someone just shows up here and and that's pretty much the first thing they do.

All that said, my response to the OP is along the lines of this post:

Americans, just like any other country or culture, have just as much right to want to continue what we see as our current way of life as the next person.

Many of us see the issues you mentioned as assaults on the way of life we like. For example, I recently had someone from switzerland try and tell me that he was sure I was an SUV-lover and therefore a lousy person. What a swiss likely doesn't comprehend while making those sort of judgements is that unlike in europe where people live crammed together and small vehicles make more sense, many Americans live far apart in wide open spaces, where having an SUV is the only vehicle that makes sense when you consider a trip to the grocery store could be 50 miles round trip so you have a need to purchase more on fewer trips.

I totally agree - sometimes me and Slayer are at the opposing ends of the debate table (so to speak), but i would never call him a troll.

As i've said to him before - sometimes the best way to learn, is to challenge those with the most opposite view point.

Hell, me and him have disagreed on a lot of subjects and found common ground on others, but he's still on my friends list, because i respect him.

You replied to a post agreeing that the U.S. did so many horrible things to other countries, this is how my reply is applicable. How would U.S. foreign policy not be applicable to this thread.

In fact your reply was,

Agree one point two trillion percent

One Point Two Trillion Percent?

To a post that claimed

Sorry but a bit of food and money that you send does not make up for things like rape, murder, lies, thievery, abuse among others that i will be leaving out.

The problem with the states is that you always start it and you mostly never finish it, and if you do it is in a way that is inhumane, bout time to stop stickin you nose in other peoples business and using your aid to needing countries as a means of unnoticed invasion and takeover.

What about a bunch of tripe that does nothing but paint an extremely biased perspective of the issues. Then you go on about pointing the finger the other way.

Both you and the poster you agree with are presenting nothing but prejudicial points of view, as in pre-judged out of ignorance, because the statements are made in complete ignorance of the facts.

Maybe you don't see your own prejudices for same reasons you don't see your own arrogance.

I think you have being blunt confused with arrogance. A great many people make the mistake of thinking that being straight out and honest about ones opinions, even when those opinions are harsh or hard in a critical assessment is the same as being arrogant, but it is not.

I am glad you like the U.S. and people from the U.S.. I find many things admirable about many cultures.

There is a fine line between flaunting and giving advice based on one's own personal success.

The fine line gets crossed all too often, but people, also, often confuse good advice with flaunting.

Every socialist democracy in history has failed the same way.

As one of our American founding fathers Benjamin Franklin once said Those who give up Liberty for Security deserve neither and will have neither! God helps us all...

"...the well being of the poor and retched is a duty charged to private, public and charitable means and funds, for the health of the retch is the health of a nation."

Ben Franklin Penn Gazette - 1743

First of all I suspect that quote is bogus. I have some copies of the Penn Gazzette and no such quote is in them. I could be wrong but I would love for you to substantiate that quote in one of the published Penn Gazettes and attributed to Ben Frankin. He bought the paper and often published statements from others. It may have been attributed him as the editor but I doubt he actually wrote it or if it turns out he did it is likely completely out of context..

Having said that if your intent was to suggest Ben Frankin would advocate government forcing men to give to the poor through taxes or other means you are sadly mistaken. He like most men of his time would espouse the Christian doctrine of helping the poor but only voluntarily not by any means of force, coercion, or socialism.

I'll leave you with this quote from him:

The Constitution only gives people the right to pursue happiness. You have to catch it yourself.
Benjamin Franklin

PG. 43

Healthy, Wealthy and Wise : A Variety of Enduring Selections from the Press of Benjamin Franklin 1706 - 1790

You sure do quote some stock Ben

I have been reading lots of him, he is not what many of you guys assert with your small pool of quotes.

We believe what we like now don't we??? Blame the evil Socialist Ben, not me...

Perhaps you could post the entire context of the quote and cite the origin in the book that is given? You claim we just quote stock Ben by posting a single quote of which we have no context and it is questionable he actually wrote it.

I have read his personal writings and can assure you he did not espouse forcing people to give to the poor via taxes. I have a copy of the book you mention and will dig it out and find the quote as it is in some boxes of storage. Maybe you could give me the page number?

Freedom from oppression and the ability of the individual to live his or her life a free man or women without government intervention as long as he or she is not oppressing anyone is the right way and the only way!

I take it you support the new Corporatocracy and Corporate Feudalism, and are happy with corporate intervention, as long as it's not government doing the intervening. …Or not?

Reading comprehension skills? Read my quote again is there anything in there that would suggest I of for intervention of any type? NO!

However I do understand where your misguided question comes from. It supposes as most socialist do that without government intervention corporations would be free to take over and run wild. But of course this fallacy is exposed when it is realized that Corporations already do that precisely BECAUSE OF GOVERNMENT INTERVENTION to protect markets for these politically connected corporations. Oh and by the way Government is nothing more then a private corporation itself these days also so is not really government. But I digress, if you remove government regulation you remove the protections and controlled markets that allow these corporations to run roughshod over the compeitition and customers then they would be forced to compete honestly or go out of business.

Also along with the prevelant fallacy among socialist that without intervention there would be lawlessness is the simple fact the free markets have been proven to work and work better then anything else many times over in history. Try studying some sometime!

I'm an American, not my government. I have started no wars, I am not arrogant, it is not only my way or the highway. I think you would really enjoy my company and sense of humor.

Seriously folks, some of us are starting to take things to heart. To judge us as all the same, or by what our government does is just foolish. One thing I love about ATS is that we have people from all over the world who come here. How are we to feel welcome here if we get American bashing going on? Jeez!

Surprised to see this thread started by a moderator. I moderate on a forum and have been active in moderating on other forums. If there is a problem with a member they are notified by private message and things are usually worked out. To come out with this 'The American way. The Right way. The only way' topic is rather insulting.

When you can't muster a conclusive argument many turn to the name calling.

Slayer is by no means a troll. Take it from someone who has been on this site for a looong time.

I've seen trolls come and go.

Well I think that the whole thing goes to how some people never got past certain historical stages. The Canadian government is a social democratic one and is essentially centrist some people are stuck in Mcarthy era cold war modes of thinking and are terrified of the Domino theory of Canadians exporting their ideas into the USA. Also some people never forgave Canada being haven for draft dodgers during the Vietnam war. They may have forget these things but all is left is vague misgivings about Canada.

Given the seriousness that many here take the US political system there is no scope for exchanging views because they must win on their terms lest somehow the USA is destroyed. This is only some people mind you. Many others seem to like a but of fun between neighbours. It is easy bto a few people to heart and attribute them to the many.

I have been to Canada. I flew into Winnipeg to a really small airport. I think they left the keys under the mat.

Winnipeg is too damn cold in winter and has too many mosquitoes in summer.

I totally agree.

Now i might get bashed but i honestly do not care.

First i would like to start off by saying that i was not born in U.S.A , but had moved her 7 years ago. So some could say that i should not have a patriotic tendency towards America . I have traveled a lot and i can say that my views are somewhat objective.

This is definitely the reason why i have stopped posting for a while in certain areas of this forum. And the reason is the America bashing.

I was born in a country where Americans were labeled as " lazy ,cold , ignorant , arogant and stupid" . So when i arrived here i was expecting exactly that. Boy was i in for a surprise.

My experience here has been so far great. The people are amazing and there are individuals who will listen to pretty much anything. Of course there are others that will not but i believe that happens everywhere , not only here.

Each country has good apples and bad apples and unfortunately it takes living here and then comparing with other places you have been to , in order to notice the good apples. From outside you will definitely observe only the bad ones.

Where i was born they always told me , oh you will go there and you will become stupid/dumb because of the education level there. Well again , wrong ...the difference here is how much you really WANT to learn. If you take high level classes , the quality of the class exceeds many of the other countries. The difference is that here you have the RIGHT to not know , and not go further with your educational level.

Regarding the " Americans don't care about what happens in this country or that country so they are ignorant!" argument ..people here, at least with decent jobs and family have NO TIME to care about very much. And from my experience people in other countries do not care either. Most of them show that they do care but only to say it , if it is time for action or giving anything the "caring" disappears.

And instead of trying to communicate and work together and form a bond we go around pointing fingers.

I do not really enjoy some of the decisions this government makes , and i speak against the actions whenever i sense something wrong, however there are few governments which actually did too much good to their people so i don't see how it's out of the ordinary anyhow.

To be very very very honest with you all it takes is me watching/reading some news from the country i was born in or other countries to remind me why i have moved here in the first place.

And whoever said SLAYER is a troll...go around and see how much this guy contributed and how much time and work has put in anything he made, and then reconsider.

Peace! And whoever goes on a bashing spree needs to remember that we are here to work together not against eachother. Because if that is the case , they have already won.

Fatality.

And the propaganda war continues......... That's really all this is. Demonizing a prospective enemy out of any percieved semblance of humanity to make it easier to kill them. All helped along with mankind's massively counter productive and not to mention stupid penchant for generalization in a world that almost all generalizations are incorrect. Helped by yet another annoying penchant of humanity is scapegoating all their sins upon said prospective enemies.

My what fools we mortals be.............
Hope all of you falling for it like being played like a fiddle so you can ignore the splashing of blood on hands your hate calls for.
