Florida says several states to file healthcare lawsuit

www.reuters.com

"On behalf of the State of Florida and of the Attorneys General from South Carolina, Nebraska, Texas, Utah, Pennsylvania, Washington, North Dakota, South Dakota and Alabama if the President signs this bill into law, we will file a lawsuit to protect the rights and the interests of American citizens."

I fear this is but the beginning aftermath of the healthcare bill being passed, I really hope things don't get much worse, i mean Obama is even getting assassination threats..

I wonder if many other states will follow?...and if many do, what will happen within the United States? Can this bill be reversed?

This doesn't look pretty at all...

I love the irony of Florida getting bent out of shape about this. How about the federal government yank medicaid then out of Florida and see how well that works out for Florida.

and its citizens are getting in arms over health care.

why the hell dont these nutters get up in arms when it comes to sending billions over seas?

but easily do when it comes to helping their own?

Why don't you look at a little more than just the talking points that the democrats spew into the main stream media. Over and over that is all they say "30+ million people getting health care" but lets forget about the liberties for every that are being spat upon in this bill.

I don't know what country you are from but perhaps that is why you don't understand the concept of liberty and freedom, individuality versus the majority. No one is arguing about giving 30 million people health care, they are arguing about the other BS that is included in this legislation, and the rights that are infringed upon therein.

To answer the OP, more than likely the federal government is going to do everything in their power to shut the states up or stall the matter. We can only hope that it goes farther than that, but it is unlikely unless states start threatening secession.

I'm relieved that my state isn't doing this and I really hope that it doesn't. I was very happy when this passed and I hope that in the future it will be made better by putting forth a public option. Out of all the states that are doing this, I say let Texas go, if they hate it here so bad why are we fighting so hard to keep them, they can go off and do they're own thing. Then we can build a fence around them and stop them from jumping it to get out of their bad situation after being on their own for awhile. No no, Im sure they will thrive....not

No problem, I am all for it, and all those Yankee retirees can go back to Jersey and Boston and Philly! Great Idea Nixie, maybe this was part of our Master plan after all!

Don't mistake the Conservatism of Florida. Charlie Crist was an extremely popular Governor, and a shoe in with a 20 point lead for our Senate seat, and then he supported Obama's bailout, and in 6 months he now trails a relatively unknown competitor from within his own Republican Party!

1 year ago, a handful of guys at my Masonic Lodge organized the first Tea Party in town. Last September several thousand showed up at the Capitol to support us. This April we expect over 20,000 at the Capitol on Tax Day! We now have Republican and Democratic political candidates contacting us and begging for our endorsement!

The Revolution will come, hopefully it is coming at the polls!

You are relieved that the Federal Government has now "ordered" you to purchase Health Insurance or face criminal charges? You are so helpless that you want a giant bureaucracy to make even the most basic decisions for you? I suppose you support the Trans Fat ban, and the Salt Ban, and you wouldn't mind if the government ordered you to exercise 3 times per week, or prohibited you from dangerous activities like water skiing?

Don't get me wrong. The "Public Option" will be a good thing, and some Healthcare reform was necessary to limit frivolous lawsuits, limit predatory practices by insurance companies, and intice doctors to keep practicing, but we certainly didn't need 3000 pages of mumbo jumbo to reinvent the wheel and cause a cascade of unforeseen consequences that even the writers of the Bill don't understand! Even Queen Pelosi said, and I quote, "We need to get this thing passed so we can see what is in it."

I wouldn't call it helpless, I would call it living in a broken system. Everyone on here is like, "how much more do we have to take from this government" and "Im sick of them sticking their nose in my business" but I myself am sick of the insurance companies robbing people blind and letting them die in the process. I dont think the people should have to take that from the insurance companies, but we had to cause what other option did we have. Not one person who's paid they're insurance for years should be dropped not one single person.

The government didn't do this, the insurance companies did, they are so derelict in their duties that something had to be done. Because everyone pays, everyone pays less. You will eventually need to purchase healthcare even if you don't have it now and this is a better option. It's like having a coupon or price comparing.

It's the better deal of the two and it will save lives. It's taking care of each other. Our country should've lead the way in making this change years and years ago cause thats why we're great. Being groundbreaking and giving our citizens the best we can. Its tragic that so many people hate this thing when its going to do so good. Give it some time.

Difference is, our "allies" ASKED to be empowered with superior American military might. The American People DID NOT ASK for reformation of the American healthcare system.

This "reform" only applies to about 9% of the American people, yet it punishes 100% of the American taxpayers.

The private American healthcare system was not broken, and is far superior to the socialist healthcare systems of any country you can name — and, before you trot out your stupid list of "superior" socialist healthcare nations, I want you to first EXAMINE the populations of the countries with socialized healthcare.

You will find that EVERY nation on your list has only a small fraction of the population of the USA... Meaning that your socialized healthcare might work for populations of 30 million or less, but such a system cannot work for a super nation of over 300 million.

Even Japan's socialized healthcare system, serving about 128 million Japanese, is bankrupting that island nation — the Japanese government has already acknowledged that its socialized healthcare system will COST MORE in less than 10 years than the private American healthcare system of today, which serves over 300 million Americans (as well as 25 million illegal aliens).

Guys, this is not even about health care anymore.

It truly isn't. Maybe about 10% of it is, but we all know the real hatred in this mess.

Government.

Americans are literally so fed up with the BS they spew and give us that we realize anything they do is for special interests.

The PEOPLE know its not about healthcare. We knew from the start. And if all of this passes and it does work, it will be the first thing in ages the government can say they accomplished.

But track record suggests a lot.

The reality is that a lot of the states in fact just about all of them are having huge budget shortfalls and as things stand presently one of their highest if not highest costs is the existing Medicare/Medicaid programs.

Naturally they are worried about what additional costs this new health care bill is going to shift on them as well.

Washington seems to be entirely out of touch with the economic reality in the land and the notion of providing better healthcare as a benefit might be something that alleviates some people’s concern about the economy and makes them feel like government is doing something positive but it still has to be paid for.

Washington can print money and borrow more easily to cover it’s shortfalls than the states can. I don’t think Florida or many other states would have too big of a problem with the bill if it didn’t stand to increase their already spiraling healthcare costs and put them further in the red ink.

Washington needs to start addressing the economic reality on the ground and so do some of the supporters of the bill that really believe now is the time with record deficits, record debt and the worst economy in decades to go ahead and commit the government and the states to massive new spending so they can pretend they won something from their party or president.

Yet, this "reform" package DOES NOT FIX the health insurance problem in America; rather, it sets up the federal government to drive the insurance industry out of business in the long run, forcing Americans to turn to Uncle Sam for their coverage, which we MUST DO under this reform legislation, or else we — the American citizens — will be FINED for not having coverage.

This "reform" only benefits the federal government, NOT the American People.

Not true. Those who don't pay for health insurance now STILL WILL NOT PAY for health insurance in the future. Where will they get the money for this magic coverage? They won't. Instead, the SAME PEOPLE who pay 90% of the income tax in this country — the wealthy — will pay MORE TAXES to support the non-payers.

Same exact mess that we've been in since Social Security was enacted in the 40s. Same exact mess we've suffered under the Welfare State... The wealthy foot the bill, and the poor ride for free.

That's what this "healthcare reform" legislation is about.

And what if I don't want healthcare coverage? What if I want out of the system altogether?

If I'm not covered, the government is going to INSIST that I have coverage, OR ELSE... Meaning I get FINED for not voluntarily participating in a system I don't believe in and don't want.

You know, if I want out of the American taxation system, I have to STOP WORKING and STOP PARTICIPATING in the American economic system. But at least I can "drop out" if I want. Go live in the mountains and live off the land or something.

But this healthcare "reform" package WON'T EVEN LET ME DROP OUT.

And THAT, my friends, is tyranny, on top of robbery.

What does being Christian have to do with the Federal Government TAKING OVER 6% of the American economy?

Last time I checked, Christians VOLUNTARILY help the poor and indigent, not only in America, but all over the world. That means Charity comes out of Christian pockets VOLUNTARILY.

This so-called "healthcare reform" legislation MAKES IT MANDATORY for all Americans who pay their taxes to CARRY those who do not have healthcare coverage.

Quite simply, it's an expansion of the Welfare State. It has nothing to do with Christianity or Charity.

LOL! Nobody is "Against" Healthcare? Nobody, is against providing more Healthcare for poor people or kids?

Are people in the US or around the world so gullible to think that this is really what the fight is about? Do you still think that the Civil War was about Slavery, and that 9/11 was a big surprise attack by a handful of guys with box cutters?

This whole debate is about 3000 pages of Legislation and Law which FORCES US citizens to PURCHASE something that they may or may not want or need! It also FORCES state governments to foot a lot of the bill, and it FORCES small struggling businesses to subsidize the cost to their employees. It will likely force many small businesses to close up shop, and it will likely lower the level of care by enticing Doctors to retire early, or choose another profession and avoid Medical school completely!

Have you every heard of someone forcing you to make a purchase with the threat of physical and economical harm if you refuse? A few terms come to mind, like Black Mail, Coercian, Kidnapping, Assault, etc. What about the first person that says they won't pay, and the government fines them, and they still don't pay, so the government arrests them by force?

We already have plenty of options for kids without Healthcare. Florida has HealthyKids and it is a TERRIFIC program. We have Medicaid and Medicare, and they are working just fine. Drug companies have programs to provide their overpriced medicines at no charge if you meet certain criteria.

We need EDUCATION, not LEGISLATION!
