Idaho first to sign law against health care reform
(AP) – 1 hour ago

BOISE, Idaho — Idaho Gov. C.L. "Butch" Otter is the first state chief executive to sign a measure requiring his attorney general to sue the federal government if Congress passes health care reform.

Legal experts say the measure, signed Wednesday, will likely be struck down. But Idaho's new law reflects growing frustration with President Barack Obama's health-care proposal.

Legislation similar to Idaho's is pending in as many as 37 other states nationwide.

Democrats in the nation's capital are hoping to pass health care reform by this weekend.

The American Legislative Exchange Council created the model legislation for Idaho and other states. The Washington, D.C.-based, nonprofit says Idaho is the first to sign a version into law.

And if our founding fathers and revolutionaries had your attitude you'd be living under the Crown. Grow up...........no one said to go out there and start rioting and acting like fools........it's more like civil disobedience except with weapons. If Americans started wearing side arms and holding up cardboard signs or rallying in the streets...............the government, police, military might think twice. That's the point. It's not about force...........but a "show" of force. Yes the US military is heavily armed........but you obviously have no clue what's going on in Afghanistan or what has happened in Iraq. You think if a war broke out between the US military/government and it's own people we'd all be going toe to toe? It's called guerilla warfare.......terrorism for a reason. Remember this saying my friend..............the enemy of our enemy is our friend. There's a lot we can learn from our enemies over in the middle east. Thomas Jefferson and many others were considered terrorists in their time........REMEMBER THAT!

You may not have the stomach to rise up and physically fight an oppressive government............many colonists felt the same way........the real men that truly believe in freedom and liberty will do your fighting for you!

And lastly............you know not your fellow citizens.......we are the most well armed populace in the world........if you think that means we all have revolvers and hunting rifles........you my friend are CLEARLY mistaken. Anything the police or government can get as far as small arms most citizens, law abiding ones, can get. You'd be surprised what's lurking in safes, basements, and other hiding places in the average American's weapons cache!

What you point out highlights even more the dangers of any one party having complete control of the government at the same time.

The reason for requiring a super-majority rather than a simple majority to enact legislation becomes apparent and the wisdom of these provisions also becomes painfully clear.

I clearly remember discussions of this during election campaigns is previous generations. The voters chose to ignore history and common sense out of anger and emotion. Those times are when we are most vulnerable and make the dumbest decisions. Anger at Bush delivered the vote to too many Democrats allowing them to do as much harm as they wish. Obama's charismatic speeches lulled them into thinking they were voting for a moderate, when in fact they voted in the most radical team to ever occupy the White House and Congress. So radical even the Democrats are soul searching and afraid at what is going on.

If we come out of this, lets hope for at least a generation or two, we retain the knowledge of how dangerous it is to give all power to one side. It eliminates the checks and balances.

Pelosi is trying to eliminate the final hurdle. She has always scared me more than Obama has. She is now effectively running this country and even the Democrats in the Senate are worried. Not to mention the Southern Democrats are waking up, although a bit late to the party.

I wonder how many will regret calling the Independents who predicted this "Racists", for not voting for their God Obama? All anyone had to do is look at Obama's history, his friends, his record in State Government and his religions associations to know what kind of person he was. As always those with their eyes open all along took the heat just to keep the light on.

The goal is clear now. To make the Constitution an irrelevant document and ignore it until it becomes normal for a court to side against it. To further destroy the economy and attain the radical Lefts goal of a two class system. A Ruling Elite with full power over the Workers that does not answer to the law any longer. When we start to forget we are a "Nation of Laws" we open the door for just what is occurring.

People need to stop asking why are they doing these things and realize they are doing all this damage on purpose to reach a goal. Too make all of us subservient to them, the Elite.

Those who will fare the best in the future are the Elite, Government Employees and Union Bosses. Their next step will be to take away all wealth not held by their inner-circle. They will do that by slowly taking control of all business under the guise of saving us or stopping corruption.

Listen closely for the sound of the vacuum as the rich and powerful jump ship and leave at hyper-sonic speeds. The US and Europe will quickly become the last place on Earth from which to operate a business. I wish I'd learned Russian. It may soon be what we once were.

I agree. Those who agree with ANYTHING the government is doing these days are incredibly short-sighted and believe everything they hear despite evidence of downright treason in our country. Our country got this way by the systematic dismantlement of our system and the trust of our people and both parties are to blame. I feel Democrats and Republicans are working in concert to accomplish this mission. republicans seem to be a seek and destroy faction whereas the Democrats seem to be more like a cancer ....slow and methodical. Make no mistake about it they both travel using the same map to Americas distruction but are just taking two different paths to get to the same point. The finish line will be one or the other selling America to the New World Order. No one can contest what I am saying really, and have a leg to stand on.........the most recent history all the way back to Lyndon Baines Johnston proves all of it.

Article 1 Section 8 says congress may only legislate on 17 specifically enumerated areas of governance.

I really hate how ignorant people are about the US Constitution. I really do. People are so blatantly ignorant they don't even bother to read what is written.

The Congress shall have Power To lay and collect Taxes, Duties, Imposts and Excises, to pay the Debts and provide for the common Defence and general Welfare of the United States; but all Duties, Imposts and Excises shall be uniform throughout the United States;

To make all Laws which shall be necessary and proper for carrying into Execution the foregoing Powers, and all other Powers vested by this Constitution in the Government of the United States, or in any Department or Officer thereof.

And as far as HOW they pass laws in this country, check out article I section 5 for details...

Each House may determine the Rules of its Proceedings, punish its Members for disorderly Behaviour, and, with the Concurrence of two thirds, expel a Member.

www.archives.gov...

So this basically states that our legislative branch has the right to use whatever means it so chooses to pass a bill.

The only stipulation how our legislative branch has on it, is if the president uses his veto power to send a bill back. Then and only then must the congress pass that bill by 2/3 to override that veto.

Ever look at all the Amendments to the Constitution? You do know there are more than the first 10 right?

Like the often complained about income tax that all sorts of idiots think is unconstitutional?

AMENDMENT XVI
Passed by Congress July 2, 1909. Ratified February 3, 1913.

Note: Article I, section 9, of the Constitution was modified by amendment 16.

The Congress shall have power to lay and collect taxes on incomes, from whatever source derived, without apportionment among the several States, and without regard to any census or enumeration.

www.archives.gov...

Long and short of it all, a budgetary bill that provides for the general welfare of the United States is quite constitutional. This POS bill isn't a GOVERNMENT takeover of Healthcare, it's a bill designed so that the Insurance companies take over healthcare and it forces you as a citizen to buy healthcare from an insurance company.

you must be persistent. you KEEP doing things not just do them once. If we had the amount of people that post on forums like these marching and protesting it'd cause a lot bigger waves. stockpiling food and things are great ideas, no doubt. but to go a little more in depth, go further than just caring for yourself. we are supposed to protect our neighbors and cities and such. people are too concerned with just themselves. [and no I am not saying stock pile food for them too, it goes a little deeper than that

The 13th Amendment, US Constitution

"Neither slavery nor involuntary servitude, except as a punishment for crime whereof the party shall have been duly convicted, shall exist within the United States, or any place subject to their jurisdiction."

The healthcare bill is a form of involuntary servitude.

Since people will be forced to buy insurance and punished by law if they don't comply, and since it shall be paid for with earned income or acquired wealth it is a form of servitude in the purest form. It is also a form of slavery wherein the government has power over your person in the form of healthcare. When a person loses control over his or her own person to become subject to the dictates of another without just compensation, that is slavery at it's basic level.

In any event, I shall not comply with such laws in direct violation of my constitutional rights and freedoms.

You know, I've been giving this a lot of thought. I myself would love to see health care reform happen....as long as the way it passes is CONSTITUTIONAL!

I don't really like the bill they have come up with....I think it's a ridiculous bill. However, if it was VOTED on, and passed in a constitutional manner, I would be very upset...but I would not be irate. HOWEVER, if they do NOT vote on it, and DEEM it to pass, without a vote....then I would be SOOO irate... I couldn't even begin to tell you how angry I would be.

I'd probably start a March on Washington, starting right here in Phoenix, and wouldn't stop til I got to the Capitol Steps.

And, that would go for ANY bill, Democrat, Republican, Indpendent....doesn't matter....that bypassed the Constitution to be passed. NO BILL is so important as to bypass the constitution. I repeat....NO BILL is important enough bypass ...or circumnavigate...the constitution.

What the Democratic leadership is proposing to do in Washington could very easily spark another civil war in this country. Very, very easily. This is something that happens in dictatorships, not republics.

My Grandfather didn't fight in WWII (and get PTSD for the rest of his life) for what Congress is proposing to do. My great Uncle Joe didn't die in WWII for what Congress is proposing to do. And my great-great-uncle Aubrey didn't die in WWI for what Congress is proposing to. My ancestors, and your ancestors, and our forefathers fought and died for their country....for our country...which was founded on the Constitution.

What they are proposing to do would require a CONSTITUTIONAL AMENDMENT to be legal, and there is no way an amendment like that would pass.

If they do this, I think it could start a civil war, or a revolution.

edit to add:

I wonder if Nancy Pelosi has ever heard the phrase: "The ends do not justify the means."

Edit to add again:

If Obama is behind Pelosi doing this, then I DO want to see Obama's birth certificate. A real American President would care more about his country, than he cared about his legacy. A REAL American President would stop Pelosi from doing this, not push her to do it.

From my understanding of the health-care bill i can't help but wonder, How can we afford what we cannot pay for? Its just logic. I can't go out and buy a room full of furniture when im flat broke and let it collect as debt, never to be paid back.

That would be a great letter to Miss Pelosi if she actually cared. With so many states in the red, a Congress passing "this" and "that" to add more financial weight to individual states as well as the country and all of this needless spending, I think there are some who know they're making a grave mistake and want to see this mistake to fruition.

This Health Bill is so bad for the country I've actually been depressed the last few days because I know the only people who'll prosper from this are the greedy in power.

It is now over 70% of Americans that do NOT want this Health Care Bill, but yet they continue the vote --without changing anything thus far. That right there tells you that there are some who don't give two cents what we think, and they care even less about us and our health.

The New England Journal Of Medicine has recently said approx. 1/3 of doctors will stop practicing if this Bill goes through. That one move alone (the passing of the bill itself) will shrink our options in one swift move.

The Government only wants to get their foot in the door. Then, they can pass laws against their competitors, reimburse themselves for this and that cost and watch everyone else go out of business because of forced regulations, passing of legislation and heavy fines –all of which will be in their favor of course.

People don't realize that if this passes, it'll be the 1st time in America's history that they will force you to buy a product. What "product" or "service" or "right" will be forced next my friends?

We won't even have a say on what medications we need and we won't even be able to decline the medications.

We have gone from helping grandma cross the street to running her over. We've gone from offering health insurance through our employer to forcing us to BUY health insurance, or we will face fines --small at first, but heavy very quickly. After awhile, it'll be jail time if we don't pay? Will we break some future law if we respectfully decline a "procedure" or medication that they deem as "necessary?” You gotta know it will come to that --you just know it.

Our options my fellow Americans are dwindling. Our pies are getting smaller. Our freedoms have been dramastically reduced with the whole war on terror fantasy! Our money being taken by the foolish spending! Our food is being recalled for various reasons. And now our health is under attack because our Health Care system apparently needs "fixing." Sorry, but that is not what needs fixing!

It's always been while our coffins are being lined, their coffers are being lined.

PLEASE, email Congress and politely ask them to vote AGAINST this Health Care Bill!
PLEASE call Congress and politely ask them to vote NO for this Health Care Bill!

I conclude with some quotes:

1. Instead of giving a politician the keys to a city, it might be better to change the locks.
2. The impersonal hand of government can never replace the helping hand of a neighbor.
3. A politician is a person who will make waves and then make you think they’re the only ones who can save the ship.
4. A people that value its privileges above its principles soon loses both.

Stay focused folks and above all, look out for yourselves –you’re the only ones who will.

Good post. Just sorry you had to post it.
What has happened to our legislature ?
These underhanded tactics by Pelosi are absolutely disgraceful.
I'm afraid the we are seeing the birth pangs of tyranny.

Let's assume they pass this albatross.
Let's assume that the Dems are voted out in November.
Can anyone here educate me as to the process whereby a law is repealed?
Is there a process ? Or are we chained to this thing forever ?
Please educate me.

i've been a long time lurker, this is my first post I have been a bystander on ATS, and more importantly this country for too long. What is happening with this health care bill is an assault on us and a mockery of what our ancestors fought for. Though I voted for McCain (didn't really like him, but thought he was better than Obama), I didn't think Obama and Co. would be that bad, and certainly better than Bush. I underestimated the corruption of this adminstration, which is far worse than Bush IMO. What is happening right now is treasoneous, and I am ready to stand up for my rights.

OP, beautifully written.

Good thread, S&F. Too bad the 'ballot boxes' will make no difference to anything. When tptb want something passed, they will get it passed. They have their ways, and I have a good feeling Obama was pressed to push this health care bill. Do we really need proof? I think it's getting to the point of critical mass when it comes to how our government is really controlled by some sort of shadow government, but I wont sit here acting like I am able to pinpoint the exact people, although not only do those people know who they are but I think we all have some good ideas who they are as well.

Actually, one could argue that the right wing talking heads have played many people like a violin. making them think this is an issue about freedom and not about helping those in need and providing affordable health care. That somehow the health insurance industry that is immune to monopoly regulations provide a better more affordable service than government healthcare insurances such as tricare. That the private health insurance industry doesn't make life or death decisions based on costs. That by approving this health care we are going down the road of socialism. That somehow it's ok to see other Americans dieing from treatable illnesses as long as you have private insurance or medicare.

The 10th Amendment has it's place as far as how states govern themselves, it does not have implications how your federal tax money is spent and what federal laws are passed.

While it would be best that this kind of legislation should be a state issue, obviously the states aren't in a huge hurry to pass it. Something has to be done about the health care industry in this country. While what is proposed isn't the best, it certainly does start to fix what is wrong.

If I had it my way all these corrupt politicians would be laid across the rack and broken in half. Unfortunately that is what they probably fear as they rush to haphazardly sweep over their fraudulent footsteps at our expense. That way when people look back to see who is to blame for all the corruption, there will be no evidence, the damage will be done, and those to blame will have their own island paradise FAR FAR away...

The USG has done their work well breeding a generation of suppressed cattle then milking them for funds. Our purpose has been served and once everybody's happy little lives come crashing down around them, they won't even know who to blame so they will slaughter each other instead...

Good thing I'll be "far far away" by then as well...
