Honesty from one person may not always be honest. Their assumption is usually coiled within their own reality, to what makes sense to them.

Honesty is just their way of saying (in my reality... it works this way, don't you see it?)

I was also thinking along that rhythm.
Since I'm not honest with myself, can I be honest with you?
Or, is it OK if I say something that may hurt your feelings? Or,
You up for some constructive criticism?

I don't like it either. I also don't like "let me tell you something". Just tell me something if you want to tell me something. You don't need to tell me that you are going to tell me something to tell me something.

Now that you have me thinking about this, it is going to bother me more! I think I'll reply with "no, I'd prefer you lie".

Another one is "in other words". They have said something. If I don't understand what they mean I'll ask for further explanation. When someone says something and then immediately says "in other words" they are either implying that you were too foolish to understand their original statement, their original statement was so poorly worded they need to reword it or they just want to hear themselves speak.

Haha brilliant, S&F

Here are a few others that annoy...

Well if I am being honest with myself... (what you lie to yourself too)

LOL at the end of something that isn't funny e.g "I went to the shop today lol"

People who don't take out the 3-4 edited post quotes.

People who say "You never guess what happened today" If we could guess we wouldn't need a forum.

People who quote somebody and post what they said in the same quote (So the whole dam post is one huge quote, so you have to work out who said what)

People who come on here to tell a story they got told off somebody else, I'm sure if it's that important they would be on here or we would already know about it. e.g A friend of a friend saw a ghost... ever heard of Chinese whispers

Loads more but my head hurts.

I totally agree with what you are saying OP,

I can understand where you are coming from,

However......

But.....But.....

When you really think about it, you have to agree that.....

I don't have a problem with this remark. As someone else mentioned, I see it as the person confiding in you to a degree. Or perhaps sharing their true feeling about something without it being sugar coated with political correctness.

I agree, but...

I also need to flame the people who say; You can tell me anything.

those people are mostly not trustworthy either.

Yeah, but does 'honesty' mean 'frankness'?

Not really....

Maybe its just a poor choice of words, huh?

My all time favorite to
is; "I'm not supposed to say anything, but.."

I start with, "Then DON'T say anything!" They usually do tho....

You can have fun with this too if you do a bit of research into NLP and linguistics I often do, have fun with friends and in work etc... I dont really bother on ATS though I should do, have once or twice and CAUGHT a psy ops (really have done outed him chinese)

So specifically (which you will see is the whole point) when people use tersm such as

"Billy is always late...." in regards to someone not being on time.

People make "Generalisations" like this as blanket refernces trying to initiate in the listener an wanted belief or idea about someone or something.

So you can say back, as it is said in such an statement of fact manner,

"So john really he is always late, every day?"

and keep filtering down till you get to the truth.

It can be used as part of "Funnelling" to in therapy and Mental Health work to help delete distortions to reality and perceptions many people carry, and project out there.

"Im terrible" or "I always mess up...."

So

"John what are you doing now that is terrible?"

& "When you passed you driving test/exams etc did you mess up then John?"

Back to social life situations if you have someone who gossips a lot and makes lots of "Sweeping" statements about things/people doing this subtley can really make them squirm as you keep questioning down to the truth, I like to end then with "John I am glad we got to truth about this/that/her/him/name/situation etc, WE (roll
can now SEE that you were wrong about....in this situation, just as you were misinformed about that, Am I correct in thinking you dont ALWAYS say things that are not correct about X"

Do this for a few weeks and watch the gossip stop in their tracks.

And blush much too as the focus is turned back onto them.

"In all Honesty...."

"John you wouldnt ever not be honest would you anyhow?"

"It is known that....."

"John Known by whom?"

"All Gays/Muslims/Christians etc are evil"

"John have you ever experienced an gay/muslim/Christian doing anything evil to you, it must of been terrible, tell us all about it..."

But.....However
we all know we all do it as well. Becoming aware of other people doing it helps you be mindful and stop doing it ourselves in my experience.

Kind Regards,

Elf

"Elf is there any other regards than kind that you have for people?"

Kk

Regards

Elf

I agree with your veiw of it and other such mannerisms, but not many people here use that one (unless they are lawyers)
I once saw a drowning lawyer escorted to shore by a pack of great whites as a professional courtesy!

I dont let such things bother me, not worth consideration really.
I want my 30 seconds back mate!

"Elf is there any other regards than kind that you have for people?"

Bugger! pre-empted me!

I don't react negatively to it at all. It is a way of saying that you are about to say something that might fly in the face of convential wisdom. For instance:

"To be honest with you John, investing in a broad basket of equities over the course of several decades has brought you better returns than investing in any other investment class. "

I would think that convential knowledge believes otherwise.
