This is just totally disgusting! Is this what we here in the U.S. have to look forward to with government provided health care?

Neglected by 'lazy' nurses, man, 22, dying of thirst rang the police to beg for water

A man of 22 died in agony of dehydration after three days in a leading teaching hospital.

Kane Gorny was so desperate for a drink that he rang police to beg for their help.

They arrived on the ward only to be told by doctors that everything was under control.

The next day his mother Rita Cronin found him delirious and he died within hours.

She said nurses had failed to give him vital drugs which controlled fluid levels in his body. 'He was totally dependent on the nurses to help him and they totally betrayed him.'

Mistakes can happen in any hospital, in government or non government controlled hospitals.

I think this is totally outrageous to, but this shouldn't be used as a way to poke fun at government run health-care.

no, you have free healthcare to look forward to no matter what happens.

as you quoted, this was in a teaching hospital, it doesnt excuse what happened but its clearly a hospital with loads of noob doctors and nurses and they took th the "nil by mouth" warning a bit to far, this combined with them not giving the guy enough drugs.

this could happen in any hospital in any country in any system, as its down to human error NOT an error in the system!

and hey, how about you use your blinkered american mind and look at is this way ... at least he got into hosptal and got some treatment and wasnt getting charged, if he was american and was poor, he probably wouldnt have even got into the hospital, and even if he did, his family would now be recieving a bill for his poor treatment and untimely death.

Before even reading this thread, I am making a prediction, based upon the title of the thread, that this is another attempt to smear socialized health care.

EDIT: I was right LOL

Now this was a horrible situation, but it has nothing to do with the system...it has everything to do with, as the article put it, lazy nurses.

She said nurses had failed to give him vital drugs which controlled fluid levels in his body. 'He was totally dependent on the nurses to help him and they totally betrayed him.

Not surprising. Government healthcare is the first step in bringing in a socialist order. Any nimrod that thinks healthcare is "free" in any part of the world needs to take economics 101. For all the people in the US that just want a small taste of what government run medicine is like, go to your nearest military hospital and compare it with the private sector. No thanks, I'll forego the LCD tv and keep my private healthcare. My healthcare is not a concern of the taxpayer.

That is one good thing, I guess. At least his mother won't get billed for the hospital murdering her son. I guess government provided health care does have an upside after all.

This is one of my favorite lines in this story.

This week a task force called on nurses to sign a public pledge that they will treat everyone with compassion and dignity.

So, in England, they have to have nurses sign a public pledge to do their job? What a wonderful system they must have over there.

And guess who runs the Kings County Hospital Center where this happened? The New York City Health & Hospitals Corp.. A government owned and operated hospital and health care system.

and being from the uk and having been a patron in a uk hospital or doctors surgery you know ALLLL about this dont ya !?!?

what you are spouting is pure conjecture! unless you have actualy had to use the system, when it comes to talking about a system your really know nothing about yout basicly farting , as what you are regurgitating is not facts, its just conjecture and it stinks.

the NHS aint perfect, but its done pretty much everything ive ever needed from them without a fuss, argument or anything else... (also im from scotland, so its slightly different)

also, the NHS is not one uniform body who are the same in every part of the uk, the countries have their own NHS (kind of) and that in turn is split regional with slightly different systems in every region.

this agreement to be nice thing ?? well, it probably cost a few hundred thousand for the consultation, study and plan to be drawn up for this agreement, and sadly thats where most of tax payers money is wasted these days.... on silly agreements like this that dont actualy mean anything.
(and even then, that "agreement," will have been for one local nhs body not everyone)

So, this 22 year old man dying of dehydration after 3 days in a UK hospital is not fact? I think you personally are getting a little frustrated trying to support a highly flawed health care system, and are only capable of name call to somehow support your lost cause.

no, its not fact, it would seem its your licience to bash government healthcare in USA.
(yes, a person did die)

which is sad tbh, a person died and use it as a platform for your anti obama soap box.

i actualy dont know what is worse! fighting to make sure that everyone in your own country Has to pay for their own healthcare even if they cant afford it, or the guy who has died stupidly young.

the former is more like blind sighted slow acting form of self genocide, the latter is a sad accident.

OK. That pretty much says it all. If you want to keep your blinders on and refuse the facts, then that's your business. Good talking with you. Bye.

And you don;t understand the problems and benefits of our health care system either. Government run anything is a travesty. Your system is rife with problems much more dangerous than ours. If payment for such a system were the only problem I would agree but, when they intend to use this as a way to control every aspect of ones life using unelected appointees (Czars) then it goes against every principal this country was founded on.

Well, so far, the only examples posted in this thread have both been in government run medical facilities, one in the UK and one in New York City. Find it funny nobody has posted a similar incident happening in a privately run medical facility.

Pretty stupid.

Well, here is an article that you might find interesting then.

Here's a snippet:

An estimated 200,000 Americans will die needlessly from preventable medical mistakes and hospital infections this year

I guess all 200,000 deaths are probably in government run facilities?

Oops, forgot a link: Dead by mistake

And this is the site that I took the quote from: www.createhealthcarevalue.com...

Don't know, and I never said so. What I said was:

Find it funny nobody has posted a similar incident happening in a privately run medical facility.

Now if you actually want to contribute, find and post a similar incident of blatant abuse and death in a privately run medical facility. Shouldn't be too hard for you by what I'm hearing in this thread.
