I just recently took the test on the thread titled how progressive are you. Here is a novel political quiz that I really enjoy, i think they explain it best:

Welcome to The Political Compass™
There's abundant evidence for the need of it. The old one-dimensional categories of 'right' and 'left', established for the seating arrangement of the French National Assembly of 1789, are overly simplistic for today's complex political landscape. For example, who are the 'conservatives' in today's Russia? Are they the unreconstructed Stalinists, or the reformers who have adopted the right-wing views of conservatives like Margaret Thatcher ? On the standard left-right scale, how do you distinguish leftists like Stalin and Gandhi? It's not sufficient to say that Stalin was simply more left than Gandhi. There are fundamental political differences between them that the old categories on their own can't explain. Similarly, we generally describe social reactionaries as 'right-wingers', yet that leaves left-wing reactionaries like Robert Mugabe and Pol Pot off the hook. That's about as much as we should tell you for now. After you've responded to the following propositions during the next 3-5 minutes, all will be explained. In each instance, you're asked to choose the response that best describes your feeling: Strongly Disagree, Disagree, Agree or Strongly Agree. At the end of the test, you'll be given the compass, with your own special position on it.

enjoy and tell your friends!

p.s. I also like the fact that it provides examples of historic leaders as well as current politicians! check it out!

Very interesting,

Thank you for bringing this to ATS, even if it has been posted before, I never would have thought to search for it.

...and please do not be sorry for your contribution to ATS, at the very least I appreciate the effort.

About what I expected: Left/Right .88, Authoritarian/Libertarian 1.08. Actually, I expected the "authoritarian" number to be higher.

No surprises here. I've always considered myself left of center.

Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -4.77

Nelson Mandela and the Dali Lama seem like fairly good company to keep.

I don't mind at all that this has been reposted; I think it's interesting to graph our potentially changing perceptions. Also, I believe some of the questions have been changed since last time I took it.

I appear to have moved up and to the right, closer to the center than last time I took this.

Economic Left/Right: - 1.2
Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: - 2.92

I quite liked this before too... It's always interesting to see where people and myself stand.

I am pretty much where I was a year or so ago.
