Space shuttles for sale, $31 million each, one careful owner

www.news.com.au

NASA is selling three retired space shuttles - for an astronomical $31 million each.

Discovery, Atlantis and Endeavour have a top speed of 17,231mph and come complete with sick bags.

Ok, so I thought we here at ATS could pass the hat around and get us one of these old rust buckets! Just think, we could finally put to rest a lot of conspiracies about the moon and Mars etc.

But on the other hand, what if Iran or Korea put their hand up to buy one? Would NASA or the US government allow them to be sold to just anyone?

I'd turn the shuttle into my home. The picture I made below shows what I'd do.

I'd love to put one on the front lawn.
The neighbors already think I'm a few fries short of a Happy Meal, so why not feed them more?

Knowing my luck, I would immediately discover there is a no space shuttle ordinance in my township. It's already against the law to keep an unregistered vehicle *in my driveway*.

Yeah, but look at the mileage?

Make a great hotel though.

If only 50 thousand of us donates about 600 bucks then ATS would have its own very first space shuttle. But that's optimistic, in reality it would probably just turn Johnny Anonymous into Johnny the Corrupt Rich Guy.

Seriously though, what use is a space shuttle without the launch facility and couple o' hundred engineers to even start the engine? According to news reports only fun solo thing you can do with it is snorting coc aine inside.

The news article says they took the engines out...
Still, I'd love to have one of those. I like tim1989's idea of turning it into a house :p

Oh, and even if the shuttle had engines, it isn't capable of going to the moon.
