The WWF is not a stupid organization. They have an agenda. They know Polar Bears are a hit with kids, and they need kids to push their agenda.

Polar Bear Population in the 70's..........5,000
Polar Bear Population today..........25,000

Polar Bears are THRIVING, in fact if they keep increasing their numbers on this scale, humans will have to do something to keep them in check.

Thrive: To grow vigorously

If you say Polar bears are not thriving, you might need to take an extra math course at your local community college.

well isnt this a funny coincidence just found this information out on CNN about saving tigers

www.cnn.com...

Tigers could become extinct in the wild in less than a generation, the World Wildlife Fund warned Wednesday as it launched a campaign to save them. The number of tigers in the wild has dwindled to 3,200 -- less than the number held in captivity in the United States alone, the campaigners said. "There is a real threat of losing this magnificent animal forever in our lifetime," said Sybille Klenzendorf, director of the WWF-US species conservation program. "This would be like losing the stars in the sky.

Whats even most disturbing about this is that how some of it involves "making money". How can one kill off a species to make ends meet when there are jobs out there.

Should something similar like "The Predator", from the movies, come and make their appearance to hunt us, we would get our own dose of medicine dished out to us.

This is a great thread -- because we get to see the denial reactions

Denial nbr 1) -- extinction is natural it's not humans' fault.

Truth: Ecology is currently experiencing a faster rate of species extinction than any previous mass extinction on earth -- solely due to industrial civilization.

Denial nbr 2) -- 99% of species are already extinct so the current species would go extinct anyway

Truth -- that's a figure accumulated from over 3 billion years. Most life is single-celled organisms. Species extinction happens through spikes and this spike -- this catastrophe -- is many many times faster than the "normal" rate of species extinction from random factors.

Denial Nbr 3) -- animals should know better so they're too weak to survive.

Truth -- Evolution is often thought of as "survival of the fittest" by "might is right" or -- whomever wins the fight is the survivor. Actually evolution works through selection of genes which is a random combination not predictable -- happening over many generations. So evolution is not based on the choices of any animals or their abilities -- evolution is based on the genetics which is a vast, unpredictable, combination.

Denial nbr 4) -- Humans will just go extinct as well if animals keep going extinct. So we don't need to save animals -- we need to save humans.

Truth -- The reason we "save" Nature is because we don't have a choice -- humans are part of Nature, just like other animals. It's true that humans will go extinct along with destroying ecology. Every species has a "carrying capacity" and the population climaxes and then crashes -- sometimes the species does not survive this population crash. But overall ecology works through balance based on the "climax species" which gives stability to an ecosystem. So we "save" Nature because Nature saves itself -- Nature works through balance and harmony -- so by recognizing ourselves as part of Nature we work to save other species -- not continue to destroy them.
