Obama said in his State of the Union Address that jobs were his number one priority and whala, unemployment unexpectedly drops.

WASHINGTON (AP) -- The outlook for jobs became a bit less bleak with January's unexpected decline in the unemployment rate, which fell to 9.7 percent from 10 percent as more people said they had jobs.
finance.yahoo.com...

One problem. They adjusted the unemployment from last year which was higher than reported, employers shed 20,000 jobs last month, and the increase in temporary jobs is a result of the census. But hey, good news, unemployment down and recovery underway.

I am so sick of the lies!!!!!

It's not really about lies, its about perception.

Statistics can be viewed in many different ways depending on how you are looking at them. I doubt anything Obama has done in his presidency so far has either gained or lost jobs in reality.

It will blow up in their faces.
The census jobs are temp jobs.
They will get laid off around July.
By the time the November 2010 election arrives the unemployment
rate will be around 10.5%.
Obama is making an another error by now owning the economy.
He will not be able to blame George W. Bush in November 2010.

But when we passed the porkulus spending bill, unemployment was not supposed to go over 8%. It went to 10% and now they want to take credit for it going to 9.7%.

Remember 1 year ago when people were saying the Republican Party was dead? 1 year of Obama revived them pretty quick!

Or, if you actually listened to his speeches and not Fox news, you would realize that the rebound is following the timeline as stated.

Unfortunately the US Government unemployment (ahem) 'figures' (!!) are not telling the 'whole truth' of the matter - (surprise, surprise !) for example -- it does NOT count the 5 million or so people who are NO LONGER LOOKING FOR WORK ANY MORE (after being out of work 2 years, some people, well...just give up looking).

So when they are not 'actively seeking employment' and are 'not collecting unemployment benefits any longer' they fall off the radar - and are NO LONGER COUNTED AS UNEMPLOYED.

Which is a big lie. They ARE un-employed, they've just decided they cannot look any more.

If you were to count ALL the unemployed persons in the US and also included the 'under-employed' (you know who you are, the millions of hard working stiffs who are only given 20-25 hours a week because of 'cut backs' at your job, with a concomitant loss of benefits, I might add !) the actual Unemployment rate in the US as of 5th Feb 2010 would be around 15.5% i.e. ON AVERAGE (some areas are doing a little better, but some areas e.g. Flint, Michigan and the greater Detroit area whose unemployment rate has been hovering around 19% for more than a year now-- is MUCH worse).

When people say they are 'sick of being lied to', by this current spin-master US Administration (as with most of the past previous spin-master US Administrations) they speak the truth.

If the actual figures ever DID come out in black and white to the average Joe on the street (and not carefully doctored by the US corporate owned spin-media, whose main job is to fool the masses into a sort of fool's paradise), the US economy would probably just collapse in on itself, I'll bet !!

I had worked briefly in the auto industry for an OEM supplier of computer chips to GM as well as many other Foreign auto companies such as Audi, Porsche and Mercedes.
There are computers and networks in all cars these days, BTW.

I will have to say that by allowing GM to stay afloat, though painful, saved many jobs in GM as well as the many jobs in the US automotive suppliers to the Automotive industry as a whole.

Had these jobs gone away we'd be seeing even much greater numbers of unemployed in the manufacturing sector and overall.

Before Obama was even elected, think of how many things we owned around our own homes that are foreign made, such as our Cars, Computers, Monitors, Televisions and cell phones.

All of those dollars being shipped overseas and not spent here domestically translated to fewer jobs domestically.

That is a reflection upon the direction in which our domestic productivity and subsequent economy was and is headed today.

This has been a long time in the making Folks.

And without a credit driven bubble economic boom of the past greenspan days.

It will take us a long time to become competitive and productive, to change the direction of our economy.

The only way in which we can do that without a bubble again is by focusing on new industries.

Remember:
We invented the transistor -
We invented the microprocessor and personal computer.
We even invented the VCR.

All of which provided jobs and industries to create a sound economy.

All of which are now being sold back to us after being manufactured in the far east.

So beating up on someone doesn't solve much of anything but waste more useful internet bandwidth.

If you are so much better then I would like to hear your suggestions on solving the problem and not just belittling others.

I hear it every day here in South Africa, the lunch time news says we are still knee deep in crap, and the eight o clock news says we are out of the recession... You never know what's going on. It's all lies, to make you buy more stuff you don't need, because you think you can afford it all of a sudden.

Luckily, people are waking up and saving their pennies, and not falling for the lies and deceit any longer.

I don't see this turning out well though.

Are they talking about unemployment or claims filed for unemployment? So far as I know, we are still losing jobs faster than new ones are being created, it's just that a lot of people have run out of benefits.

The Obama administration said the rise in unemployment wasnt his fault but today he is taking credit for the drop. I think he should take credit. Afterall, he is the one who ordered the new bogus numbers!

How can one man be responsible?

He took over a sinking ship!

Your countries own greed (capitalism) is the reason for your downfall!

WE DON'T HAVE CAPITALISM IN AMERICA! Haven't had it for a LONG time!!!!!!! We have state corporatism/fascism. The government is in bed with the corporations and they keep feeding off each other. I suggest you read Adam Smith's Wealth of Nations and other books and realize that difference. Free market capitalism is a good, solid system when it is run by people who are honest, ethical, responsible, and accountable. It's not the system of capitalism that is corrupt. It's our government and the corporations. And greed is a human condition not an economic one. It has been responsbile for the downfall of many systems......not just capitalism. There are greedy socialists, fascists, communists, anarchists etc.

Riiiight. From The One's alma mater:

Oh wait, that didn't happen because the situation was worse than we estimated. Do over!

You're talking about the same hypocrite that demonizes bankers but voted to bail them out, right? Sorry, but listening to his campaigning, oops, speeches just promotes the urge to stick forks in my ears. Talk is cheap, actions and results speak far louder than words and unfortunately, pretty much all we've gotten from I-bama is words. Words don't fix things, actions do. His words got him elected and so far, his actions have not matched his words, 25% of the way through his presidency.

There comes a time when you have to stop campaigning and actually doing something. When he can discern the difference, perhaps I'll be impressed.

State corporatism/fascism, capitalism whatever, there cant be too much difference and i don't need any school lessons!

Yes greed is maybe a human trait, everybody likes a bit more of something they like but then there is also taking the p**s!

Your presidents didn't ask your corporations to move away to other countries so they can save some pennies and mug there own people off!

You yanks are barking up the wrong tree, all ways looking for the easy scapegoat! The president...

Its the same here.

I couldn’t agree more with your comment. The political system in the U.S. is now bought and paid for by corporations. This perverted system is feeding on itself and is unlikely to survive. The changes that are required appear way out of reach. You would need decent honest people to take over the majority of positions of power and institute sound corrective action based on principles and integrity. Call me a pessimist but I don’t see how what’s coming can be stopped. Hope to god I’m wrong.
