Since she was picked as Sen. John McCain’s (R-AZ) running mate, former Alaska governor Sarah Palin has been one of the right’s most beloved political figures. But when Palin announced last week that she would campaign for McCain in his reelection primary battle against ultra-conservative former congressman J.D. Hayworth, some of her most vocal supporters were outraged that she would endorse McCain, who they see as a Republican in Name Only (RINO).

On Friday, Paul Streitz, the co-founder of the 2012 Draft Sarah Committee — a group trying to get Palin to run for president in 2012 — sent out an e-mail slamming Palin for supporting McCain:

She has now chose to align herself with several bad actors. What should this be called, the Rinoization of Sarah Palin. [...]

She is certainly entitled to write a book and make money for her and her family, but other than what has she has done to support Republican and patriotic candidates. … Perhaps, Sarah was too busy talking to her agent about her Fox deal. Where the hell was Sarah?

More infighting among conservatives. As a progressive, I love it. I also rather like McCain. But if conservatives really want to make a sweep in the November elections they're going to have to find some way to present a united front.

Count on Sarah to continue to be controversial.

Palin is a sign of the end of the world. She is beloved by a large segment of the population despite her obvious ineptitude and insanity.

You socialists aren't going to like the outcome of this fighting.

These fights are over republican primaries.

And the movement has been to put real conservatives like Ron Paul in the general instead of RINOs.

It doesn't matter if a RINO or a real conservative gets put in the general in terms of who will win the general election.

As MA shows us, the odds are the republicans are going to win.

There is in-fighting all over the place in republican primaries as corporate funded RINOs try to bully their way to a primary win over real conservatives.

The democrats don't have this problem because they are all corporate shills, thus it doesn't matter who wins their primaries.

Palin is making a huge mistake by endorsing John McCain. She has time to get in right, and I believe she will.

McCain is an embarrassment to the Republican Party, and it is time for him to go.

This just shows that the GOP and corporate special interests have hijacked the Tea Party movement and are only interested in using the anger at the government to bring the GOP back into power...

which would solve nothing but perpetuate the broken, corrupt system that has become American government.

Palin is nothing but an empty suit that supports the establishment. Who do you think made her what she is today?

The tea party people are neither Republican or Democrat, they are independent, and you can expect them to run in all primaries to increase the odds of a win for any one of them in the general election. McCain is a typical corporate douchebag so I'm not surprised that people are pissed that Palin was stupid enough to endorse him. The only credibility lost is hers.

Can you imagine what the GOP debates will be like if the same braying jackasses which graced townhall meetings show up?

I dunno, a lot can happen in the next few years... based on the current political temperature I would say yes, as regardless of how delightfully fractured and split the GOP is, whoever they would put forth would win.

But, it is simply too early to tell. Things could slide any way. I do hope for some possible third or fourth party alternatives, though.

Democrats are indeed corporate shills. But what are the Republicans?

This thread didn't have much activity when I posted it a couple of days ago.

Today, though, Palin's endorsement of McCain and the subsequent defection of some of the key upcoming Tea Party Convention speakers and many of its attendees has brought this controversy back into the spotlight.

Does Palin's "defection" signal the end of her meteoric political rise or a movement of the more mainstream Republicans to regain their party?

I rather admire her for sticking by McCain after he did the same for her.

When/where did McCain defend Palin? He never did anything to stop his campaign staff from dragging her through the mud, as far as I remember.

But I must say, I am very disappointed and puzzled with this endorsement. She'd better have some very compelling reasons for this, or else she's going to lose one of her staunchest supporters.

He made her his vice presidential nominee. He raised her from relative obscurity to the national spotlight. They may have had their disagreements during the campaign, but he never openly dissed her.

I don't agree that anyone who disagrees with Palin's actions are right wing fringe rebels. What a insult to concerned Americans. This is a most inflammatory and deceptive allegation that tries to paint anyone who does not agree with Palin's actions as some fringe group. This couldn't be farther from the truth.

Palin is being played for a fool and so far she's living up to the allegation by her endorsement of McCain and for embracing everything that is wrong with the Republican party and for showing that she can be influenced by big dollars at FOX.

Oh well, sticks and stones and all that, but mark my words, Palin will doom herself and when its over we wont be better off for it because it will show us once again that corruption is the cancer that ruins everyone and everything decent and moral in America.

When Palin figures out what she wants to be when she grows up I can bet that many ex Republicans that now vote Independent will continue to vote Independent or for a third party choice because Palin has proven she is too sketchy in her judgment to be taken seriously.

This whole McCain issue is just a veiled effort to undermine Palin's future prospects and is desired by those assisting Palin to paint her as immature and not yet qualified to be the president.

When this is all over, Palin will be discredited and will be painted as the money motivated immature politician with no viable future in politics that she allowed herself to become by listening and placing her trust in blood sucking vampires instead of trusted professionals.

The Republican party or those old dinosaurs within the party are intentionally undermining Palin and in doing so they want to co-opt her and stain her image and future ability to topple the apple cart that the Republicans insiders so desperately seek to protect.

He didn't do that out of altruism. He chose a female for the woman's vote and as a conservative to mask his own liberal leanings.

It was "A bidness decision".

They may have had their disagreements during the campaign, but he never openly dissed her.

That was one of his biggest failings - he never dissed anyone, including his opponents. He was too nicey-nicey.

But then, he never stopped his staff from attacking her, down to the last attack, after the election was lost, where they attacked her publicly over some damn rented clothes.:shk:

I agree Palin was chosen in part because Republicans hoped she'd capture some of the womens' vote, especially those women who formerly supported Clinton. What they didn't seem to realize was that most women are not going to vote for a woman just because she's a woman. She also has to be sufficiently presidential.

I am no big admirer of Palin, but I have to agree that the flap over her clothes was truly unnecessary. Was it really McCain's staff that started that? Looking good is part of being a candidate, especially if you're a woman, so the expense was justified, IMO. Hillary Clinton's pantsuits weren't cheap either, and nobody made an issue of them.

What I don't understand is why some folks are still hung up on the whole Democrat/Republican myth.

Palin is a perfect example. How such an obvious waste of brain cells can seemingly captivate an entire group of people is beyond me.

Bush, Obama....I can see it with them. They're evil, and they're GOOD at being evil. Palin's evil (as evidenced by her hijacking of Ron Paul's idea), but she's so obviously inept that it defies convention.

Yet, people still love her. Probably because they're in denial of the myth of the two party system.

Sigh.

We citizens are being cornholed mercilessly, yet we continue to bicker about such obviously insipid things.

Oh well.

The only reason many people even know about this is because Glen Beck was actually criticizing his BELOVED Sarah Palin for helping out John McCain.

Unfortunately, Glen Beck holds huge sway with tea partiers. Despite what he says, he is responsible for much of the "revamped" tea party movement that originally started with Ron Paul...back when it had a singular message.

Now the whole tea party movement has turned into a joke because of GOP infiltration of the entire thing.
