Obama wants $33 billion more for war

www.washingtonpost.com

The Obama administration plans to ask Congress for an additional $33 billion to fight unpopular wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, on top of a record request for $708 billion for the Defense Department next year.
The extra $33 billion in 2010 would mostly go toward the expansion of the war in Afghanistan. Obama ordered an extra 30,000 troops for that war as part of an overhaul of the war.

What happened to change?

According to the articles, the Pentagon's goal is to speed up purchase of pilot less drones to send overseas.

Even though it is more spending on the war, do you think it's better to use this money to send unmanned drones rather than soldiers?
Either way, it's spending billions we don't have on a war that's been going on longer than world war II and has no signs of ending.

If you were paying attention, Obama constantly said he would expand the war in Afghanistan when he was running for president.

If you were paying attention that is.

The point is he's expanding to countries other than Afghanistan.

Haven't you been seeing talks of Yemen in the news?

news.bbc.co.uk...

Yemen has also gained a reputation as a haven for Islamic militants. Towards the end of 2009, the country came under the spotlight after crackdowns on Al-Qaeda-linked militancy in Afghanistan and Pakistan raised fears that it was becoming a key training centre for militants.

After a Yemen-based branch of al-Qaeda claimed that it was behind a failed attack on a US airliner on Christmas Day 2009, the government stepped up its efforts to clamp down on Islamic militants, but warned that it would need help to win the battle against militancy.

Here's one for you Obama. Why not give that $33 billion as aid to Haiti after the massive earthquake they've had.

Oh no you can't do that though.

Has nothing to do with this conversation and is not included in this funding.

Dont' try to support a false thesis with external and irrelevant facts.

Okay I will stop being ignornant

But in all honesty no I do not wish a soldier dies, instead i wish for one of the biggest winners of this war to win!

Private contractors, I believe they deserve more of YOUR money and Obama agrees with me

Xe Services aims for $1 billion Afghan deal

Blackwater Worldwide's legal woes haven't dimmed the company's prospects in Afghanistan, where it's a contender to be a key part of President Barack Obama's strategy for stabilizing the country.

Now called Xe Services, the company is in the running for a Pentagon contract potentially worth $1 billion to train Afghanistan's troubled national police force.

In 2009 alone, Xe projected total revenues at $669 million, the documents state, and three-quarters of the total stems from federal contracts to support U.S. troops in Afghanistan and Iraq.

www.msnbc.msn.com...

But all in all, my main serious criticism of this new request for money is.... what only $33Billion???????????????????

That's not enough man!!!

Obama wants record $708 billion for wars next year
US President Barack Obama will ask Congress for an additional $ 33 billion to fight unpopular wars in Afghanistan and Iraq on top of a
record $ 708 billion for the Defence Department next year

Military officials have suggested that the 2011 request would top $ 700 billion for the first time, but the precise figure has not been made public.

economictimes.indiatimes.com...

See.. now that's what i'm talking about!!!!!

Don't feed the troll.

Funny how the Pentagon is using a private contractor to train the police force rather than our military.
Or is that still one of our main goals?

Oh well let's see, because a country has just been devastated and left thousands dead or homeless.

Your response is "screw that."

So you'd rather waste billions blowing up people and destroying lives in Iraq and Afghanistan, rather than help people who are in need?

Please.....you make me sick.

I can't comment on the 700+ that you mentioned..

However, my wife is in the Air Force.

33 billion will get you about 300 new drones - FYI the predators are being phased out. The predator has just one camera, the entire fleet recorded 24 years of video last year.

People have to go through that - it's called intelligence.

The new craft doesn't have one camera, but 54.

Most of that funding is for intellegince analysts.

It was on msnbc last week.

Well, remember there was a thread called "greatest speech ever"
It was by that member of the john Birch Society?

He said that the goal will always be to take the most expensive route possible!

So yes this is the goal!

Haiti has nothing to do with this topic - try to stay on track.

And yes, I would rather "blow up" people in Afghanistan than help Haiti.

I have no comment on Iraq at this time.

I have to tell myself that you don't represnt the views of the rest of the American people.

Haiti has a lot to do with this.

Obama wants a load of money for the war and in my opinion such money should be spent on Haiti.

If you advocate murdering people then so be it.
