Ron Jeremy says violent video games 'worse' than porn

Violent video games have "a much bigger negative influence on kids" than pornography, a leading porn star has claimed.

He said parents should be more worried about the harmful effects of such games.

Mr Jeremy's comments were made at a session called the Great Porn Debate during the Consumer Electronics Show, CES, in Las Vegas.

His comments angered gamers, who accused him of "ignorance".

Mr Jeremy's appearance at CES in Las Vegas caused some raised eyebrows.

I tend to agree that killing virtual people in a virtual world is much more powerful than watching people having intercourse on TV or the internet. I don't really understand why violence and pornography have been shown to have some link to one another in many studies.

Another thing I don't understand is why we let children play violent games yet we dare not speak to them about the basic natural act of intercourse. I'm not saying that we should show them pornography though...

Ok your obviously not a big game player. They can be HORRID at times, hence the ESRB "M" rating.
Parent's should enforce it, and know what they're young ones are playing, especially with some of the ones out these days.

However, to say that porn is the lesser of two evils, HAHAHA. Like I said, not a big game player. To see how my arguement can easily win this....

Look at any of the top 50 games out "currently" of those 50, read the reviews, and pick the goriest, sadistic, toilet humor spitting title you can find. Play through the game, start to finish. Take key notes, on story, character progression, trials of right vs wrong.

Now pick one, any, all of the top 50 adult movies(currently) try and take the same notes, and see what you come up with.

Ron Jeremy is a joke for this statement, normal healthy sexual intercourse, is one thing; but what the adult entertainment spills out is another, you can't even compare those two.

100 % violence is what brings out the crazy in people. sex can do it too, but violence does it more.

Your violent computer game is less bad than my porn movies

Well, I don't let my kiddies watch porn but some love scenes in movies are pretty darn close (even scenes in kid or teenage movies). I kinda see Ron's point, odd as it makes me feel to agree with Ron Jeremy. However, which is more harmful to the mind and development, viewing/premeditating and virtually committing acts of violence (often horribly brutal) or an act of love (nonviolent intercourse of course).

Granted these scenes can be uncomfortable when viewed as a family (but even in family movies they are increasingly unavoidable). I think that is because we view a film from ourself, we internalize it and intercourse is an extremely intimate moment, stripped (pardon the pun), and for most individuals a private moment. Although, I'm also the type of person to change the channel when people do something they ought not to be on t.v. or in public, I get embarrassed for them and have to leave.

I've been through the Medal of Honor series, the Call of Duty series, the Bond series (on the multiple platforms over the years), the Godfather, and currently I am frustrated at Hitman (stuck on a level that is making me lol...). I don't see how killing people in a virtual world is better than 2 or many people having intercourse...

Example, in the Godfather (which as an Italian, I love BTW), the story is great, the progression too. But what about when you start killing people in the street for fun and then see how far you can get on the police radar before getting mowed down in the street? Same for the GTA series.

I understand if we are talking about the harcore, S&M, woman beating, woman degrading, type of porn then we would have something to talk about. I don't think that having teens think that if they become the pizza man, they'll get laid, is much of an issue compared to a teen who thinks it's cool to shoot people all over the place 18 hours a day.

I suppose it depends on what sex you are, but either way I really don't see why either is inherently bad.

There is no catch-all for these things, but regardless of which bogeyman of the day is, they do not seem to have any effect on those not already prone to being crazy or seriously irrational.

No but getting them addicted to women they'll never have, and sexual fantasies that a lot of women would never even begin to consider, seems to me, a lot more of an evil than getting 5 stars, on GTA cause you had a little road rage, and ya wanted to shoot that virtual gun; We all know that children have access to real guns oh so easily.

Not trying to be rude my friend, hitman is a hard game, i quit that series a while back made me too.

But the simple fact(IMO) is that porn gives the mind all the wrong ideas about sex, thus promoting an unhealthy sexual appetite that for some men and women, can never be satisfied after porn.

I'm not gonna preach on porn as I have watched it myself- but lets be honest most of it is pretty degrading- even when you seek out the "normal" stuff, such as the aforementioned pizza delivery guy meeting a milf (for example, not that I have seen it ) the links/vids next to it can involve some pretty debased stuff..............

I disagree.

I'm currently enjoying assassinating Italian criminals in Assassins creed 2, inbetween banishing and hacking mighty Demons to death in Dragon age origins. Occasionaly i will carjack a vehicle and use it to mow innocent people down inbetween my drive by shootings in GTA.

Up to this point in my life - I have never commited a violent crime, nor do i intend to... and i've been playing video games since the Vic20 and the Atari...

The porn trade isn't as clean cut as it likes to portray itself, for one thing drugs are rife. Depression is a big factor as are the occasional suicides (and this is from the legal stuff).

I think the porn trade is built on exploitation amd misery. Not all the videos online have the peoples consent and worse still are the exploitative porn movies where the women are forced into unnatural acts with complete strangers just to earn a few dollars.

There is a difference and potential harmful side effects to both porn and violent video games.

Let me start with the dangers of porn but let me first say that because of extremely bad eyesight and very hairy palms where the hairs sometimes jam in my keyboard that there may be some typos!

Porn: Has a tendency to objectify and minimize both men and women into simply mindless sexual objects in the eyes of the poorly educated or social outcast viewer. Of course more men watch porn than women so it tends to have a greater effect on men seeing women as simple sexual objects and as objects that leads to the notion that they are somehow less than human. This can lead to the viewer becoming violent in several ways, the first being sexually as many porn movies have mild to serious forms of sadism and masochism involved. The second being non-sexually as objects sometimes need a good swift kick or smack when they go on the fritz and won’t do what you want! Over the years I have had radios, computer monitors and heaters that respond to a good swift kick or smack! It’s the objectifying of people as purely sexual objects that the anti-social are especially susceptible too.

Video Games: Take objectification a step further by portraying human life as highly disposable things best dispatched by varied and sometimes creative means of violence. They promote the concept that all humans are a potential threat, or potential victims to those who like to threaten other. In other words those same anti-social people who then develop a propensity for sadism to get a sense of power and control, and the plain truth is that children and young adults to not fully mature until they are 26 years of age and their frontal lobes finish fully forming. This is the area of the brain that determines how we will perceive and interact with others and what are social norms are individually going to be. As a long distance Dad who has sired a small horde of gamers large enough to form a basketball team providing it was a virtual electronic one I can tell you that the older ones have friends who have in fact joined the U.S. Military because of their love of computer simulated war games. They freely and readily admit that they want to go and try the real thing! I have one 15 year old who is thinking also along those lines that I am very worried about.

While people who play and are addicted to video games claim this is nonsense, what is not nonsense is the musical soundtracks that replay over and over again for hours on end, that the music itself combined with the action from the game elicits certain powerful emotions and feelings in the player that are highly addictive and effect their central nervous system. While they don’t know the Powers that Be very well I do and I would say there is absolutely no chance that the games and the musical scores don’t contain subliminal messages as well. In my humble opinion they are organized and sophisticated mechanisms of brainwashing and mind control, and all I can say is thank goodness I became addicted to porn first and am now too blind to play those video games!

I can honestly say I have never seen anything in a video game I felt I wanted to go out and experience myself like war for instance.

Stuff Ive seen in a porno is a different story entirely.

Ron is correct, violence is all but cherished in society and nudity is frowned upon as a corruption of our values.

Would you rather find out your son or daughter had sex, or murdered someone (sweet headshot)? Which one do you allow them to vicariously live out daily in front of the television or console and have open fun discussions about? which one do you make taboo and hush hush?

I am not saying ban video games...rate them according to content the same way you rate movies, and take some time to consider what values society truely does instill.

Lazy parenting (aka, dropping them in front of a ps3 for weekends at a time) is not societys fault. your kid will grow up a angry, violent, sexually repressed person, because thats the upbringing you gave him.

Agreed. Some people just thing porn is about two people having sex. Nowadays porn has become so extreme it's very difficult to filter through the images of domination (for example) without wondering which of these Eastern European girls actually enjoys being treated like an animal, and which ones are their for reasons beyond depseration and fear.

The human trade is growing - when you hear stories about porn directors locking women in rooms and dehydrating them so much, that they are forced into drinking dog urine - then you've got to wonder where the cap should be laid.

How do you coerce someone into a scat scene or vomit porn? What about bestiality porn (men and women have actually died after being mounted by animals).

How do you know all those videos that you quite happily masturbate over aren't just 'cleverly directed' but are actually real videos of people having a very bad time, but the lure and temptation of money and drugs maybe too much?

Agreed about the disgusting stuff, but aren't there violent images of dead people, plane crashes, violent riots/crime, on TV which is much more accessible to them anyway?

And when I was a teen, if I would have come across any of that kind of porn I would probably have watched it once out of curiosity, puked, and then never ever click on anything that mentioned tranys, human waste, or animals and women in the same line...

Even violent Japanese video game porn is better than a lot of the hardcore porn out there because it isn't a real person being degraded. That said, kids should not play violent video games or watch porn of any kind.
