Predictions...Are they ever CORRECT?

Probably, yes but only those that are unintentional.

For instance, the movie 'The China Syndrome' was an unexpected prophesy for Three Mile Island.

Another, indirect instance was the widespread belief that the 1990s were going to be a time a great turbulence and social breakdown when in fact, it was one of the most peaceful and prosperous decades in recent memory. But as it turns out, those forebodings were only another decade away from being correct... as we have seen in the first decade of the new millennium.

One last one would be the movie, Robocop from 1987. The situation was set in the 1990s in a Detroit that was on the verge of social, economic and infrastructural collapse. Well, there are no Robocops today (that we know of) but Detroit has all but become that place depicted in the flick.

Now, it is doubtful that any of those movies were meant to be taken seriously. They were created, like all those today, to pander to the pop culture beliefs of the day. But if we can extrapolate anything from this, it may be that we create our own futures by way of 'fearing' them into reality.

When it comes to prophesy there are two sides to the coin. There is the dream (or inspiration) and there is the interpretation of said dream.

Remember the story of Joseph and the Pharaoh. The Pharaoh had the dream of the 7 fat cows being swallowed by the 7 skinny cows. The Pharaoh had he premonition but none of his priests knew how to interpret the dream...but Joseph was wise enough to interpret it properly.

The point is that you can have one talent without having the other (Joseph, according to scripture, could do both).

But the ability to prophesize is real...most people can perform one end or the other...but it's the degree of accuracy that's difficult.

We hear about biblical predictions coming true because those that were wrong were put to death. Their BS never got recorded. This is how we should treat even the common dis-info liar today.
If someone with math skills would tabulate all true predictions and false ones, I would bet the true one would just fall under the rules of probability. The false ones would be to many to count.
Remember how many predicted the Katrina catastrophe. I was one. So am I a prophet? Accountability my friends has excaped us.

Being from Louisiana it did not take a prediction to forecast trouble in New Orleans after a huge huricane. The fact of where NO is located, in the Gulf and that huricanes strike the area on a regular bais, fact that NO is below sea level and that no one has taken care of the levees or pumps for years instead putting the money in their pockets it was only a matter of time. The people in louisiana knew that the right storm could have been the end of NO. What made it worse was the politicians not doing what they should have done.

Well okay then...I don't really know what to say other OK. I will hold you to it though. Any timeline avaliable of when this will all happen? that how some people claim success with predictions..."There will be an earthquake in California". There are generally earthquakes every day in California most not very big thankfully, but a time line would go along way to firming up your prediction.

I love it how people who are either new, or don't ever even bother to read anything at all about what they are talking about make conclusions based on their own ignorant, and preconceived ideas.

The Maya prophecies do not predict the end of the world, but rather the end of a cycle.

Obviously you don't know anything about the Maya calendar/s. There is more than one.

One of the things you obviously don't know is that the Maya predicted that on Dec 21st 2012 would mark the end of a cycle. The Hopi, which were another group of Maya, have similar prophecies, but their prophecies state that a blue star (Nan ga sohu Katchina) would appear in the sky and would shed it's mask and this event would be the start of the time of tribulation, and purification which both the Maya, and Hopi state would bring much suffering and war around the world. This time of purification and tribulation would last 7 years.

On October 24, 2007 comet holmes exploded and shed a large part of it's mass but in a way that astounded astronomers.

The comet exploded and expanded to be much larger than the Sun, and in fact became the largest object in the Solar System, and it became half a million times brighter than it was originally. The comet could be seen with the naked eye on Earth, and it's color was light blue.

A spectacular explosion caused comet 17P/Holmes to increase in size and brightness on October 24. The comet is now a half a million times brighter than before the eruption began. It continues to expand and is now the largest single object in the Solar system, being bigger than the Sun. The eruption continues at a steady 0.5 km/sec (1100 mph) rate. Holmes is still visible to the naked eye as a fuzzy star anytime after dark, high in the northeast sky. It is faintly visible from cities, and from dark country locations is truly remarkable.

This is an astounding story. When an object suddenly, unexpectedly, appears in our solar system THAT IS BIGGER THAN THE SUN, and can be seen with the naked eye, and is BLUE, it could be one of those heavenly events like the Star of Bethlehem that foretell coming events. I would also call your attention to the seven seals in Revelations (I'll write more about that when I have time.)

According to the Hopi, the end of the cycle should be sometime in 2014.

Next to come will be the Red Kachina, which I believe will be what is called Nibiru, but again I could be wrong.

However I showed in several threads, as well as other members, that there have been unexplained phenomenon occurring, that can only be caused by some very large object, and this planetary object, whatever it is, is so powerful that the AU between the Sun and the planets, the distance between them, has suddenly been increasing. This same planetary object is what was causing the pioneer anomalies, as well as making comets arrive earlier on their voyage towards the inner Solar System than they were supposed to.

BTW, you do know that around 2007 was when the global economic crisis started.

Anyway, scientists have known for some time, at least since 1978, that the Solar System was going to encounter a new interstellar cloud, and even back then they speculated that extreme Climate Changes could occur at some unspecified time in the "near future."

Then ESA's Ulysses spaceprobe discovered minute stardust particles leaking through the Sun's magnetic shield, into the realm of Earth and the other planets. Now, the same spaceprobe has shown that a flood of dusty particles is heading our way.

What is surprising in this new Ulysses discovery is that the amount of stardust has continued to increase even after the solar activity calmed down and the magnetic field resumed its ordered shape in 2001.

Scientists believe that this is due to the way in which the polarity changed during solar maximum. Instead of reversing completely, flipping north to south, the Sun's magnetic poles have only rotated at halfway and are now more or less lying sideways along the Sun's equator. This weaker configuration of the magnetic shield is letting in two to three times more stardust than at the end of the 1990s. Moreover, this influx could increase by as much as ten times until the end of the current solar cycle in 2012.

Even when we have known that the Sun's overall activity has been down toa crawl scientists found that other natural factors were causing changes to Earth, and have been warming Earth's atmosphere at a time when the Sun's activity is down.

Abstract

A number of episodes of sharp geomagnetic field variations (in both intensity and direction), lasting on the order of a century, have been identified in archeomagnetic records from Western Eurasia and have been called "archeomagnetic jerks". These seem to correlate well with multi-decadal cooling episodes detected in the North Atlantic Ocean and Western Europe, suggesting a causal link between both phenomena. A possible mechanism could be a geomagnetic modulation of the cosmic ray flux that would control the nucleation rate of clouds. We wish to underline the remarkable coincidence between archeomagnetic jerks, cooling events in Western Europe and drought periods in tropical and sub-tropical regions of the northern hemisphere. The latter two can be interpreted in terms of global teleconnections among regional climates. It has been suggested that these climatic variations had caused major changes in the history of ancient civilizations, such as in Mesopotamia, which were critically dependent on water supply and particularly vulnerable to lower rainfall amounts. This is one of the foundations of "climate determinism". Our studies, which suggest a geomagnetic origin for at least some of the inferred climatic events, lead us to propose the idea of a geomagnetic determinism in the history of humanity.

Abstract
We report new archeointensity results from Iranian and Syrian archeological excavations dated from the second millennium BC.
These high-temperature magnetization data were obtained using a laboratory-built triaxial vibrating sample magnetometer.

Together with our previously published archeointensity results from Mesopotamia, we constructed a rather detailed geomagnetic field intensity variation curve for this region from 3000 BC to 0 BC. Four potential geomagnetic events (“archeomagnetic jerks”), marked by strong intensity increases, are observed and appear to be synchronous with cooling episodes in the North Atlantic.

This temporal coincidence strengthens the recent suggestion that the geomagnetic field influences climate change over multi-decadal time scales, possibly through the modulation of cosmic ray flux interacting with the atmosphere. Moreover, the cooling periods in the North Atlantic coincide with episodes of enhanced aridity in the Middle East, when abrupt societal changes occurred in the eastern Mediterranean and Mesopotamia.

Although the coincidences discussed in this paper must be considered with caution, they lead to the possibility that the geomagnetic field impacted the history of ancient civilizations through climatically driven environmental changes, triggering economic, social and political instability.

Several observations show unexplained phenomena in our solar system. These observations are e.g. the Pioneer Anomaly, an unexplained constant acceleration of the Pioneer 10 and 11 spacecraft, the Flyby Anomaly, an unexplained increase of the velocity of a series of spacecraft after Earth gravity assists, the recently reported increase of the Astronomical Unit defined by the distance of the planets from the Sun by approximately 10 m per century, the quadrupole and octupole anomaly which describes the correlation of the low l contributions of the Cosmic Microwave Background to the orientation of the Solar system. Lacking any explanation until now, these phenomena are still investigated intensively. In my talk I will discuss the present status of those investigations and the attempts to find reasonable explantions.

Abstract. An unexpected secular increase of the astronomical unit, the length scale of the Solar System, has recently been reported by three different research groups (Krasinsky and Brumberg, Pitjeva, Standish). The latest JPL measurements amount to 7 ± 2 m cy−1. At present, there are no explanations able to accommodate such an observed phenomenon, either in the realm of classical physics or in the usual four-dimensional framework of the Einsteinian general relativity. The Dvali–Gabadadze–Porrati braneworld scenario, which is a multi-dimensional model of gravity aimed at providing an explanation of the observed cosmic acceleration without dark energy, predicts, among other things, a perihelion secular shift, due to Lue and Starkman, of 5 × 10−4 arcsec cy−1 for all the planets of the Solar System. It yields a variation of about 6 m cy−1 for the Earth–Sun distance which is compatible with the observed rate of change for the astronomical unit. The recently measured corrections to the secular motions of the perihelia of the inner planets of the Solar System are in agreement with the predicted value of the Lue–Starkman effect for Mercury, Mars and, at a slightly worse level, the Earth.

Whatever is causing these anomalies has also been affecting our satellites. Some of you might remember the pioneer anomalies, but what you might not know is that whatever it is has also been affecting comets, pushing them faster towards the inner Solar System, and making them arrive a few days earlier than they are supposed to.

6 The increase of the Astronomical Unit

6.1 The observation

From the analysis of radiometric measurements of distances between the Earth and the major planets including observations from Martian orbiters and landers from 1961 to 2003 a secular increase of the Astronomical Unit of approximately 10 m/cy has been reported (36) (see also the article (37) and the discussion therein).

6.2 Search for explanation

Time–dependent gravitational constant and velocity of light This increase cannot be explained by a time–dependent gravitational constant G because the ˙ G/G needed is larger than the restrictions obtained from LLR.

It has also been speculated that a time–dependent change in the velocity of light can be responsible for this effect. Indeed, if the speed of light becomes smaller, than ranging will simulate a drift of distances. However, a inspection of Kepler’s third law

shows that, if one replaces the distance a by a ranging time a = ct, then effectively the quotient G/c3 appears. Only this combination of the gravitational constant and the speed of light governs the ratio between the orbit time, in our case the orbit time of the Earth. Consequently, a time–dependent speed of light is equivalent to a time–dependent gravitational constant. Since the latter has been ruled out to be possibly responsible for an increase of the Astronomical Unit, also a time–dependent speed of light has to be ruled out.

Cosmic expansion The influence of cosmic expansion by many orders of magnitude too small, see Sec.9.2. Neither the modification of the gravitational field of the Sun nor the drag of the planetary orbits due to the expansion is big enough to explain this drift.

Clock drift An increase of ranged distances might also be due to a drift of the time scale of the form t → t + αt2 for α > 0. This is of the same form as the time drift needed to account for the Pioneer anomaly. From Kepler’s third law one may ask which α is suitable in order to simulate the increase of the Astronomical Unit. One obtains α ≈ 3 · 10−20 s−1 what is astonishing close to the clock drift needed for a clock drift simulation of the pioneer anomaly, see Eq.(16) and below.
7 The quadrupole and octupule anomaly Recently an anomalous behavior of the low–l contributions to the cosmic microwave background has been reported. It has been shown that (i) there exists an alignment between the quadrupole and octupole with > 99.87% C.L. [38], and (ii) that the quadrupole and octupole are aligned to Solar system ecliptic to > 99% C.L. [39]. No correlation with the galactic plane has been found.

The reason for this is totally unclear. One may speculate that an unknown gravitational field within the Solar system slightly redirects the incoming cosmic microwave radiation (in the similar way as a motion with a certain velocity with respect to the rest frame of the cosmological background redirects the cosmic background radiation and leads to modifications of the dipole and quadrupole parts). Such a redirection should be more pronounced for low–l components of the radiation. It should be possible to calculate the gravitational field needed for such a redirection and then to compare that with the observational data of the Solar system and the other observed anomalies.

8.2 Other anomalies?
There is one further observation which status is rather unclear bit which perhaps may fit into the other observations. This is the observation of the return time of comets: Comets usually come back a few days before they are expected when applying ordinary equations of motion. The delay usually is assigned to the outgassing of these objects. In fact, the delay is used for an estimate of the strength of this outgassing. On the other hand, it has been calculated in (44) that the assumption that starting with 20 AU there is an additional acceleration of the order of the Pioneer anomaly also leads to the effect that comets come back a few days earlier. It is not clear whether this is a serious indications but a further study of the trajectories of comets certainly is worthwhile.

What all of the above is showing us, and telling us is that the Maya/Hopi were right, and we are in a time when we will see a lot of changes, and unfortunately many of these changes won't be good, because Climate Change will continue to get worse, we will continue to experience increased magmatic and seismic events until the Solar System passes through this new region of space.

Apart from that, there are many other predictions which have come true, and can be found in threads in the forums.

Yes, it is true that there are many predictions, mostly personnal, which haven't come true, and we have many members who make up predictions which haven't come true. But because this is happening it doesn't mean there are no predictions that have come true, which sorry to say is not true.

No idea what it is you are trying to prove other than complete nonsense. Okay the mayan/Hopi are correct that we will be entering a time of great change. Not much of a prediction as things change on a regular basis...every day...every year...every decade...every century. Just that simple...no great prediction there which is sorta of my point.

Too many "prophets" that make predictions especially the "professional" ones make very general predictions..."a famous person will die" or "great turmoil will result in our country" both are going to be true no matter what. Famous people die and turmoil occurs in every country every day.

The Mayans certainly knew the sky better than any one before. No television or radio just the stars to watch (what a great life!) and no lights to spoil the view. To use the goobledy gook jargon you use to explain it all is really unnecessary since we already know that great change is going to occur. Thats not a prediction....just a statement in the most general sense.

I am sure that change occured everyday in the Mayans/Hopi lives so it would not have been hard for the Kings or Chief's "predictor" to make such a general "prediction" and have it come true and therefore keeping himself alive for another year as most King's and Chief's would have been pretty upset if the guy was wrong and most likely feed him to the local volcano. Why not come up with a real prediction based on something besides generalizations to base your argument on.

I also love how those who think they know everything about a subject spout off a bunch of crap and get mad when everyone else does not believe it. The Mayans/Hopi are no different from those that make predictions today...vague and simple stories about what is suppose to come about. It people like you that make more of it than what it is meant to be and spend 5 or 6 post to explain your own opinions of someone else's.

I saw in another thread a post about whether the Myans observed leap years...if not than their calendar would be way off from our calendar in use today making the 2012 event to have already taken place and therfore your "knowledge" simply put NOT SO CORRECT after all.

I have found that no matter how long someone has been around on ATS that they are still able to form opinions and back them up with facts not a bunch of conjecture.

As for Climate Change do we really need to go there? After all it appears that they have been lying about it and now the truth is out. We certainly could be better stewards of how we tend the earth but the climate is something else that changes...Daily....Yearly... and so on, I am sure you get the idea. Weather seems to be the one area no one is able to predict with any great deal of accuracy other than the vague general terms that "Climate Change" encompasses. Of course its going to change...its suppose too.

I posted evidence to what the Maya/Hopi actually predicted, that is not nonsense... What is nonsense is the diatribe you posted in your original post, and your response after being shown wrong, without having done dilligent research before you posted.

Yes there is always change, but what the Maya/Hopi prophecies have predicted is not "complete nonsense"....

Even science is stating we are living through a time that is very rare. We know that interstellar dust is going to exponetially continue to increase and make it's way into the inner Solar System until...2012... I even put it on bold but of course you decided to ignore it...

We also know that the radiation, and charged particles that are making their way into the Solar System are increasing dramatically and such radiation is now higher than at any time AT LEAST since we began to monitor space weather.

Not only that, we have had Michu Kaku, a very respectable scientist ,going on the record saying that in 2012 the Sun's activity is probably going to send very destructive CMEs our way, and which could very easily destroy our electrical, and electronic infraestructure in a large portion of the Earth, and could possible do more harm.

The Maya calendar is more sophisticated than any calendar EVER made. These people were, and are since there are many Maya of different tribes still alive, remarkable and had remarkable knowledge.

It is not every day that the Solar System moves into a new region of space which will change the dynamics in the Solar System and which is affecting, and will continue to affect every planet including Earth...

This was predicted, among many other things, by the Maya/Hopi and other cultures and individuals.

The Earth is not going to be destroyed but there are changes coming that will affect humanity unfortunately in bad ways.

I know that there are some people who don't want to believe at all in the possibility of unexplained phenomenon, and topics such as prophecies, but my friend you are so wrong that is not even funny.

Still waiting for more predictions and usually do not have to wait long on ATS....not long ago before he was banned a poster stated that aliens lived in his front yard and that they told him of great leaders would return to earth...believe irt was a couple days ago and yet no one showed up.

As far as the Mayan malarky many Mayans have said it utter rubish....and its no prediction to state that great change will take place...as we already discussed change occurs hourly...sunspots can be predicted by science on a days in advance and since the below article states we are currently in the lowest cycle in over a hundred years for sun spot activity...me thinks your argument that I am ignorant is perhaps a little off like most of the predictions on ATS.

The Mayns were a far advanced civilization compared to those around during there heyday...I would even say they understood much more than we do today in regards to the solar system but the predictions on ATS not the Mayans are the ones I speak of...the doom and gloom threads that go on and on about nonsense...much like you posted....just regular changes that occur over and over like the cycle you chastised me for not recognizing...sorry just don not believe it...see you here in December 2013....okay maybe I will make sure to call you out come January 2013...in fact I know I will....and you know what...things will have changed...but it still is not a prediction.

I dont know - but for sure my 8-8-8 predictions (vision) was incorrect - I saw uniforms I've never seen before - apache's zipping down the freeway - burned out and on fire cars everywhere and the police were shooting at these military types in the weird uniforms as well as Alex Jones was on a Cop Car with his bull horn - yelling Beltway into Parkway ... sort of like apocalypse now and napalm in the morning comment.. really vivid vision. and the newspaper had August 8, 2008 and it did not happen.
