Hey all,

My mom called me today to tell me something interesting happened to her iPod. First she told me that the iPod has been sitting next to her computer for a week; she hasn't used it, it hasn't been on and it hasn't been plugged in.

She then said she got up at 6:30 am to get ready for work, she walked past the computer desk in the living room and the iPod turned itself on. She watched it go through its folders, as if looking for a song. It went to a number of different songs, then turned off. I know it wasn't the alarm, because she never uses the alarm and even checked to see if it was on.

She went into the kitchen, made coffee and went back into the living room and the iPod turned on again and continued to shuffle through songs. She said it didn't play any songs, but just went through the folders. It then landed on Poker Face by Lady Gaga (I don't know what's more scary, a sentient iPod or that my mom listens to that song). It stayed on that song for a few seconds, then it turned off again.

It's interesting that it would land on that song for a prolonged period of time. My parents and I love casinos, and video poker in particular. We're not addicted to gambling, but it's a pastime, like going to a play or concert. My mom's parents also loved casinos, and her dad especially loved video poker.

Later that day, the number my grandpa always played for the 3-digit lottery came out. Hmmmm...

Any ideas? Is it grandpa saying hi? A technical glitch by Apple? HAARP taking control of our precious iPods? Subliminal advertising by Lady Gaga's record producer?

I really have no idea, but it's definitely interesting, and not the only paranormal thing to happen in the house or to my mom over the years.

Wow. I have absolutely no idea what could have happened. I have an Ipod, somewhere, but I rarely use it. I honestly don't know much about how they work (you should see me trying to access a song....usually bad words are involved, lol).

If that had happened to me, I would have freaked.

Is there anyway to check the Ipod for electrical problems or glitches? I don't really know what I'm talking about, but that would seem the most logical.

Either that, or Lady Gaga has some explaining to do!

Keep Smiling, All!

Creepy! How old is the iPod? My guess is that it's a glitch, at the moment our DVD player has taken to fast forwarding through chapters in the episode menu's at random and stopping etc all sorts of weird stuff, but it's on it's 4th year of hard slog, plus sometimes electronics just stuff up :/

also, good on your mum for being able to use an iPod! (my mum still hasnt mastered a nokia yet, and doesn't even know how to check an incoming sms
) So the thought of her mastering an ipod is similar to me mastering in quantum physics or something similar

Edited because of spelling error

Thanks for the replies.

Yeah it freaked her out too. She went and woke up my dad right away to tell him about it.

The iPod is going on 1 year old. I bought it for her for Christmas last year.

I did update it for her the last time I was home, which was Thanksgiving. She can operate the iPod, but she has trouble with iTunes, downloading and transferring songs to the player. Could it be the update messed something up? I don't know, but for it to turn on exactly when she walked by, twice, is very spooky.

I don't think there's a way to check for glitches or electrical problems. I don't think it's damaged in any way. It usually just sits on the computer desk and my mom uses it when playing poker online. I don't have an iPod of my own, so I'm not completely familiar with them.

Unfortunately...it sounds like your mom's iPod has the Lady Gaga virus that's been going around...

Ipods do weird things... I think it's inherent. I don't have the spontaneous "turn on" issue but I do have the "I refuse to turn off" issue... usually remedied when I threaten it with a hammer. I don't know, I think my Ipod hates me.

Disclaimer:
I am NOT saying this iPod/iPhone program detects ghosts.
I installed Ghost Radar onto my 16gb iPhone last week.

It says a number of irrelevant words. But sometimes it says some really creepy things.

One afternoon I was sitting in the car waiting to go into work. The program was silent until a news program came on about Obama and it said "Chicago". A couple meaningless words folowed then said "Washington".
What a coincidence!

Later I began walking to my work building. It said "Forget". I didn't think anything of it until it next said "Belt".
Wow, I forgot to wear my belt that day. What a coincidence!

I had it on again working at my desk yesterday.
It said a number of the ususal irrelevant things and gradually fell silent like it does.
About an hour later I'm putting together my sandwitch for lunch.
After almost an hour of silence it blurts out "Manufacture" as I'm making my sandwitch.
A few minutes later I'm refilling my water bottle and it says "Cup"
What a coincidence!

A few nights ago it was sooooo cold outside and I left the building walking to my car with Ghost Radar running, the iPhone in my pocket and wearing the earbuds. All I could think of was making it to the inside of my car.

Again, after a long silence it began speaking up.
"Heat" was said as I was walking and shivering. "Interior" followed and finally "Gasoline".

I really can't explain those odd coincidence. There are more too.

It might ramble off a large number of seemingly ramdom words- but someitmes as I found some really leave you wondering!

Again I'm not saying this device or program actually detects ghosts. It's had some bad reviews from ghost hunters reviewing it.
Either way I found it fun and intriguing.
And no, I don't sell or profit from it. I'm just sharing an experience.

Maybe the OP could try the program just for fun.

Not sure what is scarier... the fact that you think a technical error with your Ipod is paranormal...

Or

The fact that you liken gambling to "Going to a play or a concert"

Scary stuff...

For such an expensive little piece of technology, i hate the IPOD and it has a mind of its own.

I like my MP3 player much better, at least i can control it.

Makes you wonder.....

Hey, could be ghosts, could be Lady Gaga making herself known. Who knows? All I know is she has a good poker face.

And gambling isn't a problem until you gamble away more than you can afford. When you throw away the food money, then you need to seek help. Luckily having no money to begin with really limits how much you can spend at the casino.

1 - Ghosts, etc are known for manipulating electronics, so this very well could be a ghost or something sending a message or just goofing around.

2 - Electronics are known for acting funny and doing strange things. So it also could easily just be that, although there seems to be a more controlled "glitch" happening here, so its hard to say.

3 - I have an IPOD story. I took my friend out to a cemetery here called Silver Cliff Cemetery. It is well-known for paranormal activity since the 1800's, and I have personally seen various things here including orbs (seen with my own eyes - not just on digital camera images) a shadow person, phantom dogs and of course the famous "lights of silver cliff." Anyway, on this particular trip my friend had his IPOD in his pocket and had been listening to it earlier that day. The next day he found out that all of his songs had been erased, and even all of his pictures too. What was left was this single song, but 11 copies of it. He described it as church hymn but in Chinese and he had not put that song on there, let alone 11 times. He said his IPOD was turning on and off and just doing other weird things, and he finally reformatted it to get it to function correctly again. I wish he had saved a copy of that one song that was on there, but he didnt think about it before reformatting the IPOD.

Something else that happened on a trip to this cemetery was that this girl's camera had fresh batteries, but would barely turn on in the cemetery. When we left that night, she tried the camera in the car and it had full strength batteries again and worked just fine. It just would not work right in the cemetery. These battery issues are also quite common when doing ghost investigations.

Interesting story!

Wow, that's really cool, Evo. Is that cemetery somewhere out west? Maybe a lot of Chinese migrants are buried there that worked on railroads. I don't mean to sound stereotypical with that comment, but it's interesting it'd be a Chinese religious song.

I recall another paranormal event that happened in my house, I think sometime around 1993. My grandpa's sister had been murdered during a home break-in. We just got back from her funeral, when all the electronic equipment in the TV room went haywire. The TV was flipping channels and going to static, and the volume on the surround sound receiver was going up and down. It was one of those older receivers with an actual big knob for the volume that you had to manually control. We all just stood there while that was going on, for about a minute or so. We said hello to our great aunt and left it at that.

This actually happened to my ex-girlfriend last week.

I gave her my used iPod video after I switched to the iPhone several months back. After a few months of use, she called me and told me it was "possessed!" Apparently it would turn itself on and randomly shuffle through folders (sound familiar)?

I can tell you what the problem is. . .

The click wheel is stuck

In her case, I gave her a well used and worn down iPod. She finally went out and bought a Nano.

Problem solved.

Could be, but it doesn't get much use, and was sitting unused for a week before it finally decided to turn on, then off, then on again, then off again. My mom hasn't reported any glitches or stuck buttons on it.

So I was listening to my iPod.. Then I wanted to play game on my computer so I turned it off.
And when I was done.. I wanted to listen to my iPod again.. but suddenly when I wanted to scroll it, it won't let me, and sometime it'd let me scroll but always scrolled randomly.
And when I left it alone, the screen would turn on by itself and it moved by itself...
Sigh how can I explain it...
It's like .. when we're using this computer and the mouse moves by itself. It's just like that.

Does any1 know what issue am I having here?
Thanks-
And sometimes when I turned it off, and turned it on again,it'd work normally again but for a couple of minute, and then it started doing the random scrolling again

help please this has never happened to my ipod before!!

I think it is the spirits of long-deceased Micro$oft employees trying to discredit Apple. .

Or perhaps iPods don't last forever. .

Its not railroad workers but miners buried there.

About the volume going up and down, this has also happened to me. When I was a kid I played a lot of SNES and there were multiple occasions where the volume would just start going up or down. One time my friend started complaining because the volume bar was blocking his view (the bottom half of the tv screen) and he told me to stop messing with the volume. Well I thought I was sitting on the remote or something but it was actually up on my headboard. These incidents could have been electronics just having issues, but I later read that ghosts will try to communicate by means of messing with the volume on your tv, etc. This was the same bedroom where I had a visit from someone or something, and was in an apartment that my whole family believes was haunted. My cat used to randomly freak out, hair would be standing straight up, eyes locked on something that I was not able to see, and then run out of the room super fast. So there was plenty of evidence, in my opinion, that this apartment was haunted, and that could possibly explain the TV volume in my case. But we just never know for sure, as all we have are stories to tell.

My house is filled with animals. Several cats and a dog. Some things they do really make you believe they can see a lot of things we can't. Cat staring at a certain wall at a certain spot, repeatedly over their lifetime. Couldn't have been a mouse in the wall, because there once was one in the wall, and I heard it, and the cats responded much differently. Pawing and meowing at the source of the scratching in the wall. Watching something invisible move through the air. The dog can be freaky when he sits at the bottom of the stairs to the 2nd floor, staring up and barking like a maniac.
