This is a brilliant website, without which the time that I spend on the net would be so boring in comparison to what it is with it. Anyway what I'm saying is I, along with so many others, love this website. It's full of fantastic ideas and absolutely great people; to see it go would be a real shame.

Ramadwarf on saving ATS

I agree with this poster and will be more than happy to sign your petition.

This is the most interesting website on the internet. It would be more than shame to lose it.

I'm not reading 20+ pages for an answer, if it comes to needing action or, my help, please U2U me and I will make/or print a petition page for yall.
And fill it with signatures.....mmmmmk

Just hoping for a standard petition format, so we all make a difference!

I have a few, from the board of Alderman here locally, but don't want to word one myself. These could only be used for referance.

I'm still in!

A flood starts but with a single drop.

A wise man would defend the freedom of others..thus ensuring his own.

It is amazing that so many people are so quick to play "follow the leader" without asking any questions. Some people have learned nothing.

I see so many assumptions being made.

Has anyone even dissected the bill to discuss exactly what these changes would entail, how they intend to go about it, what are the pros and cons, what are other viable options.

Nothing is being discussed here at all.

This is just a "jump on the bandwagon" thread.

Everyone just seems to jump to the conclusion that ATS will go off the air if they don't sign a petition to try to stop "something".

Why aren't people even discussing the effectiveness of petitions? How many petitions have ever changed results? How many peaceful protests, petitions, or marches, have ever stopped a war...or even a bill from being passed? What could be the reprocussions in giving up your anonimity to sign? How much of your private info is required in order to be a legitimate petition?

Makes me think of Lemmings.

I haven't read the thread, so this is my gut response, which I may ammend later.

Why don't we send him our love in the form of a RECALL petition for his Congressional seat which he has abused?!

We need people like this in office like we need a hole in our heads...

Have you seen what a chokehold on advertising revenue has done to newspapers?

For the umpteenth time, this isn't just about ATS ... it is surely your choice not to be concerned with the implications just as it is surely ours to voice our common disgust without being labeled bandwagoneers (tm pending).

You know, contrarian thinking for its own sake is also a wagon, no band though.

I already block your ads, cookies and scripts as much as possible, ban me if you like.

I'm telling you this because I tried not too for a very long time, I apprecaite deeply that the majority of income for a site like this is advertisement.

However the problems created by ads from this site over the last year have been severe. I had virus attacks from this site via your ads which caused serious damage in terms of data and time loss on my side.

I understand that isnt the problem your raising but I bring this to your attention exactly because you should have direct advertising in my opinion, considering the number of unique hits this site is worth per day. I find it very hard to believe that it would not generate more money for you than your current system, even though would require you to take on additional paid staff to find clients.

The current way the third party ad houses are taking over the internet has to be checked. You shouldn't have the right to install anything in my browser without checking with me first.

Times change, people have to change with them.

I would support a paid membership for this site with zero adds.

Brilliant analogy...which highlights completely why Big Media is looking to impact the small websites that do their job better.

Newspapers are obsolete. Non-interactive media is done. Because of the web. For them to restrict the means for which websites such as ours (and Digg and slashdot etc.) remain able to operate is a huge move to restrict our ability to refute their myopic expression.

I will also sign your petition.

I love the free information and entertainment I recieve from this site.

I too will sign a petition against internet censorship, regardless of my opinion of this website, which is a lot less enamored than it used to be, but that is not the point here... freedom is the point. I still find a great deal of value here in some areas of research.

Regardless also of my opinion of the effectiveness of said petition, as one poster alluded to it being pretty much a waste of time. I'd agree with that stance, actually, so let's just say it's to keep a record of those opposed to tyranny.

I would also sign a recall petition, also as mentioned above, which I think would probably be a lot better, a whole lot better (it'd surely surprise them at least; and might actually work!) - and now that the thought's in mind... such should perhaps be used quite liberally!

Yes, this is not really outside the realm of ATS. How can we Deny Ignorance if we allow them to silence us.

I support this. A couple of weeks ago I accessed ATS from a PC in the computer lab of my university. It did not take long before a virus got in, which repeatedly directed me to a porn site. It is 100% certain that it was the result of browsing ATS in a computer that had no "defenses" so to speak.

However, users of websites (YOU) who are concerned about the possible loss of the independent web deserve to be noticed and heard. If we (ATS) were to organize an online petition effort, would you support that?

Not only would I support the online petition but after we're done we should also go after this joker who is not representing us, the taxpayers, but is representing the interests that have him in their pockets.

A petition against U.S. Congressman Rich Boucher.
Yes!
