I do feel sorry for Belgium, exit van Rompuy and enter Yves Leterme. Let the chaos begin again. That's not realy what Belguim needs after all the chaos created by Leterme during his time as PM.

So much for all the conspiracy theories about Tony Blair! It seemed like he was all set up to go, right until the very end.

My favorite theory was that the Pope was setting up his plan to destroy the Church of England and take over all of Europe. This was because Tony Blair had recently converted to Catholicism, and then the Pope set up a mechanism for Anglicans to worship in Catholic churches. He was going to somehow use Mr. Blair for this purpose. Great stuff, and obviously a giant crock!

I second the request. I wouldn't know where to begin to trace his bloodline.

wiki is rather vague on his heritage....

en.wikipedia.org...

but they are timely

Herman Van Rompuy (Herman_Van_Rompuy.ogg [ˈɦɛɾmɑn vɑn ˈɾɔmpœy̆] (help·info), born October 31, 1947 in Etterbeek) is a Belgian Flemish politician and member of the CD&V (formerly called CVP). He is the current Prime Minister of Belgium, succeeding Yves Leterme, and has been designated to become the first permanent President of the European Council, a position he will take up from the beginning of December.

and he's not too keen on Turkey/Islam(?)

Position on Turkey joining the European Union

Van Rompuy is a strong opponent of Turkey joining the European Union. In 2004, he stated "Turkey is not a part of Europe and will never be part of Europe. An expansion of the EU to include Turkey cannot be considered as just another expansion as in the past". He continued "The universal values which are in force in Europe, and which are fundamental values of Christianity, will lose vigour with the entry of a large Islamic country such as Turkey."

Well there you go, the conspiracies have been surely proven wrong, I do wonder how blair is feeling now, the reject hat he is.

I only hope he goes to were he came from oblivion.

I do have to say though, one is happy to see a woman in a vital position, weither or not she can, bring to fruitrition in what she has done, in her previous job, that s for speculation.

Hopefully she will be more successful tahn the other EU idiots, whom have done that job before her, without that title off course.

Imagine that...

The guy's a bilderberger.

and maybe David Icke was on to something all along when he called Belgium the financial and political capital for the Illuminati years ago.

And, get this for comedy, this is a classic.

Brown: This is the best decision not only for the UK! And for Europse.

One does hope everyone is getting drunk, because this is the end of all our democratic rights. If there, were any at all.

As a Flemish resident of Belgium i can't help to feel a tiny little bit proud that our PM got such an iomportant job.

However, i'm eurosceptic, and i do have some reservations about this whole thing:

To start, this entire election procedure is a scam. It reminds me of the good old USSR days where the politburo elite chose their chairman in secretive gatherings behind closed doors, with copius banquets. Europe in the 2000's is doing what USSR did during the 70's and 80's. You can hardly call this democratic now, can you?
In this light i also want to point out that this entire Lisboa treaty is a scam. The European population rejected it in several referanda in several countries. The way that TPTB in Europe handled this is mindblowing : they just made up second referanda, where they could finally shove this thing down people's throat. Is that the democratic Europe all the elite has their mouths full with?

Herman Van Rompuy may be seen by many as a grey mouse, a weak figure. I don't believe this.
Yes sure has a soft spoken voice, is discrete to the press, but don't fool yourself. He's an extremely intelligent guy. My fear is that he will work mostly behind the screnes, creating a strong presidency, and a strong, top heavy, overpayed and bureaucratic federalistic europe that will meddle more and more in the everyday llife of the sheeple.
He has his network, he's a bilderberger, and he's an avid eurocrat. It's not for nothing that his favourite catchphrase while in office in Belgium was 'rustige vastberadenheid' 'quiet determination'.

He has exerted influence in Belgian politics for decades now. During his reign as PM we saw a disasterous budget deficit, the ignoring of regional demands, the ignoring of the will of the people. and a strenghtening of the federal state against the will of the people. He is not opposed to taxing anything, as long as it doesn't hurt the capital of TPTB, but only the sheeple pay.
In Belgium, just like in Europe he was never elected as PM, he got appointed by the king when the elected PM had to resign due to scandals.

I'm afraid he's going to do this in Europe too: support and expand the vast overpayed European bureacratic system. In an infamous speech for the Bilderberg group he pleaded for more European symbols, unified euro-taxation, a european army, and more European identity to replace those of nation states.

President Van Rompuy is a polyglot, he speaks a lot of languages, is consensual to the elite and has a vast network, and as such can be a potent central figurehead for TPTB in Europe without them losing control.

This is not democracy. These are the first steps to a European federation of overpayed elitist bureaucrats who only care about their wallets, over-regulation, curbing of the power of the states and utter contempt for democracy and the people.

We are talking about a seasoned, experienced, smart and sly politician with big time connections to TPTB, Bilderberg, etc. He HAS an agenda to create a kind of strong european empire together with TPTB and euro top leaders, and the will and skills to do this. Be warned, our freedom is slipping away!

One good point on him though. He has always taken a tough stance on the integration of Turkey into the EU. He is against it, because he sees the dangers of introducing an Islamic country and culture in the Union. Van Rompuy is a practising Catholic and has good ties with European Christan royalty and the Vatican.

Another bit of trivia on him : he likes to write Haiku : the classic Japanese verses.

Edit : typos (hope i have got them all :-) )

no you did not vote for him, but Europ is not a country, you must vote in your own country and then the elected vote for the president. I do not see any problem with that, the president is only a protocol job, international phones given to Obama or Japan or China - just one person for one Europ, not 27 persons to phone !!!! international defending Europ, international influencing, not HIS view but the one decided by all 27 partners !!!

I really do not agree : Leterme did some some stupid mistakes in the beginning, nothing to do with politics but with stress all over !!! but he had to quit the scene because of the international financial crisis and the Fortis problems in Belgium !! He did nothing wrong, that is for sure now, so why may he not come back ?? he had 800.000 votes on his name !! He will have learned a lot from all this # happening with him, he will be much more intelligent acting now becoming the new prime Minister from Belgium ( as I can understand it for now ... ), he will listen to Van Rompuys recommandations, I prefer Leterme than Reynders !!!! he is a neo-liberal with very much comprehension and love for the richest people bling bling in Belgium, not the one to defend the people that suffer from neo-liberal financial malfunction !!!

I agree with you about Reynders. he's not only a neo liberal shark, he's also the worst minister of finances we have had in decades! Well, just simply the worst minister we had ever. Nothing actually works as it should at his departement. It's more like a service-shop for his personal friends there, all payed by thhe taxpayer. They shoudl put him in jail for corruption, misuse of governement funds and incompetence, not promote him!

I doubt that Leterme wil do well. I wish him the best though. It's true that he got almost 800 000 votes. It's true that he was framed for Fortis. But let's not forget that he got these votes through promises that he has been unable to keep. No split of BHV, no big constitutional reform, no budget in balance, no good governance. This man has single handedly broke all promises he made to the voters. Who still believes these people?
In a new turn as PM he'l still face Madame Non, Joëlle Milquet, he'll still face Reynders, the MR and the FDF. Nothing will change, it will stay The Belgium of papa. There is not even a Flemish majority in governement. The majority of Flemish will be ignored to serve the Walloon mafia and the royals.

Poor poor Flanders

yes , ok, maybe it is a pitty for Flanders, but surely it is also for Wallony people, we want a strong Europ, but do you not want a VERY strong Belgium also ???
I do not understand all those stupid ( ?? ) politics ... Madame NON is only Madame NON ( Milquet ) because Wallony people do not want Belgium to split into 2 parts and what do we do with the Brussels people ??? she is not the only one to say NO to stupid flemish nationalist demands !!!!
The new president Herman Van Rompuy is surely much smarter than his flemish brother Eric, for sure much more intelligent ( he will have to be !!! ), not extremist !! when I think about Belgium I always think it is like a very very clever and intelligent professor at university who forgets always what he has to tell to his students because he is so busy with his frustrations and nationalist phobia .... poor Belgium, poor Flemish frustrated by French bourgeois ( in the past ok I could understand, but now ??? ) still frustrated by french speaking people ... instead of being proud of Belgium fantastic chocolat and great scientific people since the beginning in 1830 !!!! frustration, frustration, we live in 2009 ok ??? flemish people are completely frustrated by french speaking people, they prefer much more English speaking like the Holland people ... it is historical ... but stupid looking in 2009 !!!!!

Maybe a little of topic, i don't want this to turn into a Flanders-Wallonian thread. But here we go.

Off course there are nationalists on either side. We have them, and the french speaking part has FDF, who are also nationalists.
I do agree that Brussels is about the only reason that belgium still exists. Nowadays when you cross from north to south they are two entirely different countries. not only language, but economics, culture, social system, way of governance, etc.

I guess Flemish frustration comes from the fact that while they are the economic motor of the land, they have to pay billions a year to the south who are, for the most part living in an outdated socialist culture, where shockingly many people live their life from state handouts.
In return for that we demand more autonomy.
What you see now is the opposite. The minority of Frechspeakers are holding the country hostage by blocking all kind of attempts to negociate, thus leading the country into the standstill where we have been for the last two years.

In a way you can say that the breakup of Belgium started when the French started blocking every path of negociation.

I'll advise u to speak to a Belgium person. i'm sure that this "grey mouse" sorta speak will do more on the background then we will ever know.

and i'm quite up to date conceiring our politics. SEMI-DEMOCRATI that is. we have little real influence. voting for the "less-worst party" that is.
How can you explain on a prinsipal level, that our pll (the dutch) voted a NO to the Eu's constitution. and 3 years later almost had our own prime-minster in the office of President of the Eu??

regards.

It's really ironic, how such a low key guy like that will bring europe together unified.
Tony Blair isolates britain from europe, and then people want to complain about how he was the best guy for the job. It's really dumb to shy away from the facts. I think this is excellent for europe, and everyone, even the liberals. This is exactly the message europe should be sending to the world.

Yeah your big no. Only the less developed regions where against it. So many poeple voted against it beacuse they didn't know voting for it would have given the EU parliament power over the EU commission. IT wouldn't have improved the EU parliaments possion against the national parliaments. The treaty would have made the EU much more democratic. And beacuse of you uneducated NO voters i have to live in this #ty undemocratic EU. So stop pretending you where heroes you screwed it up for us all AMEN!
