If you have about 2 weeks on your hands and want to burn sometime you can try to get through the 1990 pages that is the new health care bill, I'm sure it will be an exciting read. Seriously this is whats wrong about America, I'm quite sure that no body who actually has a vote on wether it gets passed or not will actually read this. It's not thier fault it's just it's so incredibly long. They can hide stuff in here very easily.

I suppose after the complaints a while ago about the length of one of the house bills concerning health care, the congress critters heard the message and decided to correct things. Double the pages!! Yeah, yeah! That's what the public wants!!
I'm paying very close attention to what my representative and two senators are doing during all this crap. So far the senators aren't disappointing me, but the representative seems hell bent on destroying my commonwealths economy. Meanwhile I predict a new representative next year, and a new senator next year to replace the wishy-washy senator who generally does what is right, but has no passion for his constituents.

It is a real shame that we are using government money to subsidize the high cost of health care. It would make more sense to bring the cost down so the common man could afford it.

I am groingrinder and I approve this message.

This was telling,as much as they say there will be no rationing,etc...(This is from HR 3962)

About the High-Risk pools(people who have had a hard time getting coverage due to a "chronic illness or condition"...

INSUFFICIENT FUNDS:
"If the Secretary(of Health and Human Services) estimates for any fiscal year that the aggregate amounts available for payment of expenses of the high-risk pool will be less than the amount of the expenses, the Secretary shall make adjustments as are necessary to eliminate such deficits, including REDUCING BENEFITS,INCREASING PREMIUMS,or ESTABLISHING WAITING LISTS.

So,just assume for a minute they decide,"Oh! We'd better stay within our budget! We're going to have to ration our resources!" Or worse, they can keep you on a waiting list until you're dead, then you can save them even more money!

Are health care system is broken but pushing through a terrible peace of legislation isn't the answer either. I believe thier just doing this to say they did it and use it as something to campaign on.

Some gems from the bill...

• Page 16: States that if you have insurance at the time of the bill becoming law and change, you will be required to take a similar plan. If that is not available, you will be required to take the gov option!
• Page 22: Mandates audits of all employers that self-insure!
• Page 29: Admission: your health care will be rationed!
• Page 30: A government committee will decide what treatments and benefits you get (and, unlike an insurer, there will be no appeals process)
• Page 42: The "Health Choices Commissioner" will decide health benefits for you. You will have no choice. None.

Typically what Senior Citizen's groups do is break it down and assign each chapter to a few different volunteers who will read it, as other little groups read their chapters.

Each group will highlight what they think is good in a chapter and bad in a chapter. When they all get back together again they will share those good and bad things from each chapter with one another for further investigation and study.

If people on ATS want to get to the heart of this bill quickly it might be a good idea for people so interested to volunteer to take on a chapter.

Someone who really cares could start a thread, and those who really care and can prove that they can be objective (no left/right politics just the facts) can then volunteer to read an assigned chapter and report back.

Getting a few different people to read the same chapter helps to protect you from those fudging on the left/right politics test.

give them a few days each have them post the highlights to their chapter of what's good and what's bad and why they think it's good or bad.

That way the bill can be quickly weeded through the best and worst ellements identified so we know what to say when we are hanging, drawing and quartering and then beheading each and every last member of the House and Senate as to why

Just a thought.
