If you became the new leader of NK, what would you have done to enhance North Korea as a nation?

Factors to consider:
-Chinese government unwilling to allow America base right across their border, so they need North Korea as a buffer.

-A United States wanting to expand oversea bases to counter Chinese expansions.

-South Koreans who hate North Koreans.

-Dissatisfied North Koreans who would leave your country at the slightest opportunity.

-22.000Km or 18% ARABLE land.

-Reputation already ruined by Kim Jong-Il

-Extremely unbalanced economy.

-Powerful elites.

-Other factors you can think of.

NK is a difficult country to play with. I always thought that if Korea just became communist, then there wouldn't have been all of this conflict. All of Korea would have been on par with China.

If I was the leader of North Korea, I would make full use of advanced and free energy type sytems to supply power for the country and expand the use of hydroponic technologies and related methods. Producing power to keep the country warm and feeding them as a major priorty, especially in relation to humanitarian needs. Than other things would fall into place, such as more advanced medical care and imports and exports and working on eventual and mutual reunification with South Korea; respectfully.

Simply open up the borders. Then everything else would come into fruition itself.

the biggest hurdle is merging two vastly different governments. SK is tiny, has to import a lot of stuff because there aren't many natural resources. But it's built one of the most powerful economies on the planet, thanks to freedom NK residents can only dream of. If a unified Korea can resemble what's been going on in SK, the country will thrive.

If I could be guaranteed that by turning NK into SK I wouldn't be blown up by a bazooka, I'd follow the SK model. Otherwise I don't want the job.

What happened to Germany after the wall came down? That is about the situation that you would see in Korea.

I remember looking out over the Berlin wall back in 82. There were raised platforms so that tourists could see over into the East without going there. At night the difference was so extreme. The West was full of life, lights, colors, people walking and driving around busses running until the late hours.

On the East it was gray and dull with very few lights on and no one moving about by car or on foot.

It was the same contrast that exists in Korea today. They badly need to give up on communism and change their state run economy to a market economy.

I would probably spend all my countries money on a masive military, collect exotic cars and pursue a hobby in film, while touring my country to se all of the marvelous statue's built in my likeness. I would sour my reputation with the wold community by making my nation a reclusive communist black hole with little to no outside contact. Starving my citizens I'd spend like crazy on nuclear weapon research to compliment my balistic missle program wich I shouldn't have anyways further upseting the West as well as Japan.

I'd wish to be a few feet taller first of all. Then find someone to run the country after that fails massively.

That depends.

If I had to LIVE there, I'd shoot myself.

I would sell Kim Jong-il dolls wearing big sunglasses to U.S. consumers to help

feed the people of North Korea. After ousting Kim Jong-il I would merge North

and South Korea like East and West Germany did as the wall came down.

Turn it into a economic powerhouse of capitalism and free enterprise and

institute a similar Constitution as used by the U.S then call for new elections.

Limit terms of an elected President and Congress and would forbid not a

single lobbyist to set foot in the new capital of North Korea. Manufacture

electric, hydrogen powered and compressed air driven cars and trucks.

Use the nuclear reactors to generate clean free electricity for the people and

set up a manufacturing corridor of new innovative technologies.

No income tax and a small flat tax only and never spend more then we take

in the treasury.

Would never ever join the United Nations or ever let anyone in the country

who says they want to be elected on change unless they can document what

that change may be especially if they have socialistic, communistic,

Totalitarian, emperorship, Tyrannical or dictatorship ideas. All politicians must

be accountable when making promises and lying to the people will not be

tolerated when running for office or holding an elected or appointed office.

All elected officials must be naturalized born citizens of the country and have

proof of citizenship and not a phony balony birth certificate document.

You asked what I would do as leader and leftist will not like to live in this

newly run country.

Everyone would be required to own a handgun or rifle for their families

protection. I could write a book but these are just a few of the ideas I would

implement. ^Y^

Very, very tough question. S&F!

I would still work to improve relations with China instead of the U.S. I would also promote better Asian relations which includes Russia. I would try to create an alliance with these nations and Middle Eastern Arab nations in case the U.S. and Western powers wanted to [bleep] with us, but more so to protect us since the U.N. does not necessarily favor us nor is it really fair in its sanctions, etc. I would also improve relations with the Western world but let it be known that the Eastern world will ally itself together if necessary. I would hire foreign specialists in order to help advance NK technologically.

Work with Cuba in order to install a secret military base there (in preparation for WW3), while relying on China to protect NK as we build the economy.

I would allow travel and open up borders at the risk of losing people simply because I would not be able to handle the guilt of starving my own people. I would try and build the economy by going into Africa and find some oil (that's what China is doing). Also put my hat in the Middle East and try to damage the U.S. oil pipeline built up through the use of paying Muslim insurgents and intelligence agents while supplying the main enemies of the U.S. with better arms and tactics. Also I would take advantage of other 3rd world countries through drugs and arms sells and exploiting their resources through diplomacy.

I would not allow Westerners, especially journalists in NK. Not even Japanese for the simple fact of keeping Western influences out of NK. Vietnam is a perfect example of what happens when Western influences invades a country. Of course, this all effect tourism in a bad way and the potential profits therein. But then again, I am trying to build up the country and revolutionize it first.

All South Koreans entering would be required to carry a chipped passport (according to some sources, U.S. passports also have chips in them in the left top corner) and would monitored or watched. I would continue the labor camps and prisons for the sake of further industrializing the country much like Stalin did. Yeah hypocritical but it's politics.

I would build hospitals and try my best to have healthcare at a low cost of the people's money. I would spend more money on bettering the people first. Invest in Green and solar technology, more environmental products including cars. Build pathways for bikes and encourage people to use them and also public transportation. Encourage physical health and fine and/or discipline people overweight. However, though I am bettering my country, I would also continue subtle propaganda techniques to ensure loyalty.

No more than 2 children per family. Abortion is allowed and encouraged (in cases of rape, and mandatory in case of incest). Women have all rights, if they were denied any. Young girls are trained to be well-educated but also are given simple skills such as cooking, sewing, etc.
All young boys would be educated and militarily trained in case of draft or simply to defend the country - remember NK is SMALL. Both would have survival skills. All students would be tested to see their potential and the given results would determine what they would be doing in terms of work.

Prostitution is allowed (another way to rake in cash for government spending).
Illegal drugs = harsh punishment. Keep them out! They are again one of the many ways the U.S. gov. destroys its own people (see how Bush Sr. got part of his wealth). Cannabis = legal. Heroin, coc aine, etc = keep that [bleep] out.
Gun ownership is not allowed.
Keep traditions intact while introducing new ones.
No death penalty. Only prison and labor camp...and torture (yes, it is wrong but hey, the U.S. has bloody hands as well).
No child labor. Must be at 13-16 to work.
Freedom of press would limited.
Free Speech would be not allowed for the simple fact that the government is also ready doing things that are inhumane i.e. labor camps. But then again, free speech is here in America and it does not work because the truth, when exposed, is usually tainted by the media. Genius, the U.S. government, is. I would institute a secret police force, and any foreign intelligence agent found would be shot on sight.

I would tear down all that "worship me" bull[bleep], all those stupid statues, and institute stricter education, higher standards of living (but condition the people to live simple). Religion is allowed, but must be kept private and small i.e. nothing extravagant and any money donate or made in temples or churches would be taxed. No Scientology. No religion in politics. Morality and Virtue would be strongly encourage as it tends to have a great effect on the people in terms of their spirit and overall being.

I would try to imitate China in order to make a more powerful nation economically. I would NOT turn it into a Democracy due to the geographical location. Also, Communism does work. Communism can be quite successful as you see with China. Cuba would be successful if the U.S. did not have sanctions on it.

I would continue the nuclear program and refuse to disarm. And would be COMPLETELY anti-globalist and anti-U.N. Nationalist to the max! Of course, nationalism tends to come with racism and extremism.

I would create an intelligence agency and figure out ways to later sabotage SK and cause a revolution in South Korea in order to unite the two countries.

This is laced with hypocrisy but that's government for ya. This is not my ideal society. I only say this because of where NK is and what must be done and not what could be done.

North Korea is a difficult nation to lead because it's the rope in a tug of war between China and the U.S..

If you want to try something, sacrifices must be made.

Right now, Kim Jong-Il is choosing to side with neither really. He is trying to make North Korea a nuclear power so that no nation would mess with it. He has no intention of using nukes on anyone because he knows that NK will be obliterated if he did.

China was able to escape the grasp of Western democracy and capitalism because it had nukes. After developing its first warhead, the U.S. attitude changed dramatically.
