Wow , that must take nerves of steel .

I recall this story mention in your link .... a stark reminder.

In 2008, Catholic priest Adelir Antonio de Carli took off from Brazil in a chair fixed to 1000 balloons, but drifted out over the ocean and was unable to navigate. His body was later recovered offshore.

If i remember correctly , it was for a charity fund-raiser .

That first man to attempt it , Larry Walters, must of been an interesting fellow to say the least.

Nice find RussianScientists .

Hi UmbraSumus,

Those people must have more nerve than I have that is for sure. They must be crazy to let the wind carry them to Whereeversville.

This is a reenactment based on Larry Walters who on July 2nd 1982 reached 16,000 feet in a lawn chair with 41 Helium balloons attached.

Lol, good old lawn chair Larry...

An almost candidate for a darwin award. I remember he thought he would gently float up, but apparently he rocketed up

Pilots at LAX actually reported him over the radio he was that high.

That last guy that did it ended up dissapearing....people, I know what the weather is like up there...please do not attempt this....please
